Vineel Krishna CEO of smart city SPV

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Friday appointed R Vineel Krishna, a 2005-batch IAS officer, as the chief executive officer of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) that will work for developing the state capital into a Smart City.

Krishna, who recently returned from central deputation, will also hold the post of managing director, Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC).


The 36-year-old officer from Andhra Pradesh shot into limelight in February 2011 when he was abducted by Maoists during his tenure as district collector of Malkangiri. They released him four days later on February 24 after the state government intervened. The state government also effected a minor reshuffle in top bureaucracy by giving industries secretary Sanjiv Chopra, a 1990-batch IAS officer, additional responsibility of OMC chairman.


Nitin Bhanudas Jawale (2003-batch IAS officer) has been appointed director (tourism) and chairman-cum-managing director of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. Girish S N (2002-batch) will replace him as director of special projects under panchayati raj department.


Akhila Bihari Ota (2000-batch IAS officer) is the new revenue divisional commissioner (central).
