New Brunswick

New Brunswick (French: Nouveau-Brunswick; pronounced: [nu.vo.bʁœn.swik], Quebec French pronunciation: [nu.vo.bʁɔn.zwɪk]) is one of Canada's three Maritime provinces and is the only constitutionally bilingual (English–French) province. It was created as a result of the partitioning of the British Colony of Nova Scotia in 1784. Fredericton is the capital, Moncton is the largest metropolitan (CMA) area and Saint John is the most populous city. In the 2011 nationwide census, Statistics Canada estimated the provincial population to have been 751,171. The majority of the population is English-speaking, but there is also a large Francophone minority (33%), chiefly of Acadian origin. The flag features a ship superimposed on a yellow background with a yellow lion above it.

Etymology

The province is named for the city of Braunschweig, known in English as Brunswick, located in modern-day Lower Saxony in northern Germany (and also the former duchy of the same name). The then-colony was named in 1784 to honour the reigning British monarch, George III. Braunschweig is the ancestral home of the British monarch George I and his successors (the House of Hanover).

New Brunswick, officially City of New Brunswick, is a city in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is the county seat of Middlesex County, and the home of Rutgers University. The city is located on the Northeast Corridor rail line, 27 miles (43 km) southwest of Manhattan, on the southern bank of the Raritan River. At the 2010 United States Census, the population of New Brunswick was 55,181, reflecting an increase of 6,608 (+13.6%) from the 48,573 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 6,862 (+16.5%) from the 41,711 counted in the 1990 Census. Due to the concentration of medical facilities in the area, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Saint Peter's University Hospital, as well as Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey's Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick is known as "the Hub City," The corporate headquarters and production facilities of several global pharmaceutical companies are situated in the city, including Johnson & Johnson and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Green Party (Colombia)

Colombian Green Party (Spanish: Partido Verde Colombiano) is a Colombian political party associated with the philosophies of the Green party as well as the "political middle". The party advocates for having an ecological conscience, social justice, participative democracy, non violence resolutions, human sustainability and respect for diversity in order to improve the Colombian social, economic and political struggle and bring to an end the Colombian armed conflict. The Party is mostly influenced by the French party "The Greens" and the Global Greens.

History

The party was founded on November 25, 2005 in Bogotá by a group of people headed by Carlos Ramón González Merchan and Elías Pineda.

2007 regional elections

For the October 28, 2007 Colombian regional elections to elect department governors, department assembly deputies, mayors and councils and Local Administrative Juntas the party oddly won the governorships of Cesar with candidate Cristian Moreno Panezo and Boyacá with candidate José Roso Millán. The party also obtained 23 Municipal mayors.

Maryland Green Party

The Maryland Green Party is the state party organization for Maryland of the Green Party of the United States.

The Maryland Green Party qualified as a recognized political party on August 17, 2000, since that time the party has grown dramatically and as of June 30, 2007 there were 8,108 Greens in Maryland.

During the 2006 elections, U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Zeese became the first Maryland Green Party candidate for statewide office to be invited to debate the major party candidates. Zeese went on to finish third with over twenty-five thousand (25,000) votes. That same year Green Ed Boyd became the first African-American candidate for Governor of Maryland. He received approximately 15,000 votes.

In April 2007, some say that the party had its first victory (although non-partisan) when one of its candidates Mike Cornell was elected with 88 votes to the Columbia Council, an unincorporated community run by a nonprofit homeowners association known as of the Columbia Association in Columbia. Cornell is one of 10 representatives that form the Columbia Council. Residents elect council representatives from each of Columbia's nine villages and Town Center. This position is not a government office.

New Brunswick (NJT station)

New Brunswick is a railroad station on the New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor Line and the Amtrak Northeast Corridor (NEC) in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The station at the intersection of Easton Avenue and French and Albany Streets near the Old Queens campus of Rutgers University.

History

Train service to New Brunswick was begun by the New Jersey Railroad, northbound in 1838 and southbound in 1839. Its successor, Pennsylvania Railroad, built the current station in 1903 when the tracks were raised above street level. Service was eventually taken over by Penn Central and then Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. In 2005, the Amtrak Clocker trains, a popular commuter service serving the station, were transferred to NJT. In October 2015 the southbound Amtrak Palmetto began stopping here.

The depot was designed in the Colonial Revival style and includes walls of light brown brick, hipped roof with gabled dormers and a deep cornice with dentil molding at its base. Brick quoins at the corners of the building convey an impression of strength and solidity. Windows display a popular Georgian Revival pattern of 9-over-1. Sills are incorporated into a stone belt course that wraps around the building, while lintels are embellished with prominent keystones.
