INFO: The 300th episode is here!
What is so horrible to deserve the spot? Well, it’s
Miller Time…
RUMINATIONS: While
Blip would remain around for another year, this was the final nail in the coffin as far as I was concerned about it being my primary revenue source. What happened was that the episodes came out on June 30th.
Advertising campaigns usually run for one month – from the beginning to the end of that month.
Sometimes campaigns run out early, though, by a week or a few days. In this case, the 300th episode was released between ad campaigns during a time when Blip’s revenue was starting to decrease (the buyout by
Maker had happened, though I don’t know if
Disney had bought Maker yet). So here I am, having released an hour and a half of material – three episodes’ worth of content on a video that netted more views than usual (labelling it the 300th episode instead of the actual review name tends to attract people) and each one of those parts going up that amount. Each video also had a midroll in it, which we had started doing to help offset the problems we were having with Blip’s decreasing revenue. And how much money did I make during that day, during that grand 300th episode celebration?
Twenty bucks. On what would normally net me several hundred dollars. Admittedly, I made a decent enough profit on it over time, but most of the views come in when it’s first released, so losing that momentum hurt bad. That was one of the reasons the year had such a bad reputation for me – investing a lot of time, energy, and effort into something that got nearly NOTHING in return.
Patreon had only recently come about and most of us were skeptical, wanting to see it develop more before we threw our lot into it, let others test the waters and figure out the benefits and downsides of it… but after such a horrible showing for it, I started it up and began promoting it. It was pretty successful, actually, hence why midrolls disappeared shortly after this episode and I still haven’t added any to the videos that have midroll bumpers.
The 200th episode had been a cameofest, mostly because I was trying to emulate what I thought was a really successful 200th episode – the
Cinema Snob’s.
Brad had brought in a crapton of cameos for his 200th and it had been a fun and entertaining video, so I did the same there. However, I was the first to reach the 300th episode on
Channel Awesome, so I needed to come up with something on my own. The review was obviously going to be big, but it needed something else to celebrate what had come before. I enjoy doing battle sequences if I can make them fun, so I figured a battle with Mirrorkara would be good. I had established the
Megaforce morpher earlier in the storyline and decided to use it to cycle through various outfits worn over the years. The only ones that really don’t make any sense are the
Pokémon and
Obelisk Blue coats, which really are more for the commercial bumpers.
Still, I got use out of them later in reviews (the Pokémon one, at least – the Obelisk
Blue coat will come into play at some
point, though). So in the end, just a fun little battle that hopefully people enjoyed. Also:
Iron Liz cameo!
