Susannah York
Susannah York (9 January 1939 – 15 January 2011) was an English film, stage and television actress. She was awarded a BAFTA as Best Supporting Actress for They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) and was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for the same film. She won best actress for Images at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival. In 1991 she was appointed an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Her appearances in various hit films of the 1960s formed the basis of her international reputation, and an obituary in The Telegraph characterised her as "the blue-eyed English rose with the china-white skin and cupid lips who epitomised the sensuality of the swinging Sixties".
Early life
York was born Susannah Yolande Fletcher in Chelsea, London, in 1939, the younger daughter of Simon William Peel Vickers Fletcher (1910–2002), a merchant banker and steel magnate, and his first wife, the former Joan Nita Mary Bowring – they married in 1935 and divorced prior to 1943. Her maternal grandfather was Walter Andrew Bowring, CBE, a British diplomat who served as Administrator of Dominica (1933–1935); she was a great-great-granddaughter of political economist Sir John Bowring. York had an elder sister, as well as a half-brother, Eugene Xavier Charles William Peel Fletcher, from her father's second marriage to Pauline de Bearnez de Morton de La Chapelle.

York
York (
i/ˈjɔːrk/) is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. It became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Northumbria and Jórvík. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained.
In the 19th century, York became a hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy.

York is a German electronica music duo, founded in 1997 by musicians and brothers Torsten and Jörg Stenzel. Producing ambient, downtempo, chillout, house and trance, their productions are known for catchy guitar hooks, atmospheric soundscapes and delicate dance textures.
Career
Torsten Stenzel began his musical career early in his childhood, learning the piano from the age of five when he began his classical training. In the early 1990s his musical orientation changed, and he discovered the growing techno/house movement. He built his own recording studio. Torsten Stenzel is credited for several gold and platinum awards, an 'Echo' nomination and over three million record sales.
Jörg Stenzel has, since the age of eleven, been interested in stringed instruments, the guitar in particular. The two brothers combined their talents in 1997 and project 'York' was born.
York has released four successful UK singles. Their first single, "The Awakening", reached #11 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1999. Their second single, "On The Beach" (which sampled Chris Rea's song, "On The Beach") was their biggest hit, the 'CRW edit' helped the single to reach #4 in the UK chart in June 2000, and it sold over 200,000 copies. The next chart entry "Farewell To The Moon" reached #37 in November 2000. Their final UK hit single to date was "The Fields of Love" which featured ATB. It reached #16 in January 2001.

York (explorer)
York (1770–1822) was an African-American slave best known for his participation with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Enslaved by William Clark, he performed hard manual labor without pay, but participated as a full member of the expedition. Like many other expedition members, his ultimate fate is unclear. There is evidence that after the expedition's return, Clark had difficulty compelling York to resume his former status, and York may have later escaped or been freed, but nothing is entirely clear on this.
Early and family life
York was born in Caroline County near Ladysmith, Virginia. He, his father, his mother (Rose) and younger sister and brother (Nancy and Juba), were enslaved by the Clark family. York was William Clark's servant from boyhood, and was left to William in his father's will. He had a wife whom he rarely saw, and likely lost contact with her after 1811 when she was sold/sent to Mississippi. It is not known if York fathered any children.

Its deep, proggy intro will make you flow right towards a minimalistic bassline and the tranquilizing melody builds all the way to a massive breakdown. A perfect highlight for the warm-up sets and after-parties.
The Steve Brain Mix builds further on the summer theme, with sun-drenched melody, a prog-house drive and the mind-shivering vocals of Caribbean singer Tamah Boston. The remix of Argentinean duo Xgenic is something else, kicking in with a massive big-room sound, hard-hitting chords and an even bigger doses of energy.

York was founded in 71 AD when Cerialis and the Ninth Legion constructed a military fortress (castra) on flat ground above the River Ouse near its junction with the River Foss. The fortress was later rebuilt in stone, covered an area of 50 acres, and was inhabited by 6,000 soldiers.
Perfectly placed half-way between London and Edinburgh and with the glorious Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Wolds right on the doorstep, York England is unlike any other English city. York is a walker’s paradise because most central streets in the historic district are for pedestrians only with many fascinating sights packed into a small area of just one square mile. Walking is definitely the best way to see this old city, so expect to do a lot of exploration on foot.
This town is surrounded by its original medieval high stone walls that protected it from attackers in the past and since then it's protected the town from modernization because you'll find that the old historic area within these walls is looking like it's about 500 years old and many of the buildings in fact are older.
The heart of town is completely free of automobiles, dedicated entirely to the pedestrian, filled with beautifully preserved buildings. This is not just a couple of streets without traffic, but an entire zone with a dozen small lanes that you can easily navigate on your own without fear of getting lost. While many towns in Europe have created such pedestrian zones, York was one of the first to make this transformation, and continues to expand that walking district.
The streets are narrow and wind in all directions with many old timber and plaster dwellings featuring overhanging stories and high-peaked red-tiled gables.
Today York is a lively city filled with culture, entertainment, shops, characters, legends and fine restaurants. The rich history comes to life in your visit because many of the old forts, palaces, churches and streets are preserved just as they were centuries ago, and several museums help tell that long story.
There is so much to see in this medieval gem you really could have fun for several days. You could easily find 100 things to do in your visit, so it is certainly worth spending at least three days to see it all. But if one day is all you can spare, we’re showing you how to squeeze in as much as possible.
There are so many wonderful sights to show you in York, England, such as the great cathedral towering over the medieval town and the famous narrow lane called the Shambles. York has one of the largest pedestrian zones in the country, filled with places to eat, and shop, and walk around. There is a street market every day and sometimes it's a very long market that takes up many city blocks.
You'll enjoy the scenic vistas along the river where you can sit at an outdoor café or take a boat ride. York is a great medieval city that's filled with lots of things to do and historic sites to enjoy.
We'll be taking you up into York castle and showing you the amazing medieval wall that's still standing and runs all the way around the city.
We'll spend most of our time strolling through this magnificent pedestrian zone with its old-fashioned buildings and modern shops. We'll take you on a big walk all around through the pedestrian center showing you the various attractive lanes, starting out with Petergate, one of the two or three main shopping streets.
Cars are not allowed in this area, that's called Within the Walls. There'll be some delivery vehicles in the morning, perhaps, and working vehicles with permits, but generally pedestrians are free to just stroll down the middle of the road here, making it a perfect place to meander.
It seems every few steps, you'll pass another place to eat - perhaps a nice French restaurant, or a snack shop, or maybe a pub.
It must be some kind of miracle these old buildings are preserved so well and then a testament to modern urban planning and the economy that they are thriving today with these businesses, all seeming to do very well.

York UK is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition tracing the life of 15th-century Plantagenet King Richard III which is a must visit tourist attraction here in York UK.
York is a famous historic city in the county of Yorkshire England that is steeped in history. You will see from this short city walk the amazing old houses that are amazingly well preserved. Also in this video is the famous York Minster and the surrounding area.
York, city and unitary authority, geographic county of North Yorkshire, historic county of Yorkshire, northern England. It lies at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss, about midway between London and Edinburgh.
York was founded in 71 AD when Cerialis and the Ninth Legion constructed a military fortress (castra) on flat ground above the River Ouse near its junction with the River Foss. The fortress was later rebuilt in stone, covered an area of 50 acres, and was inhabited by 6,000 soldiers.
The influence of the Vikings is apparent in York and throughout Yorkshire today in many street and place names – Stonegate, Swinegate, village names ending in 'by' and 'thorpe'. ... The Norman invasion of 1066 changed the face of York and Britain to one easily recognisable today.

York UK is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition tracing the life of 15th-century Plantagenet King Richard III which is a must visit tourist attraction here in York UK.
York is a famous historic city in the county of Yorkshire England that is steeped in history. You will see from this short city walk the amazing old houses that are amazingly well preserved. Also in this video is the famous York Minster and the surrounding area.
York, city and unitary authority, geographic county of North Yorkshire, historic county of Yorkshire, northern England. It lies at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss, about midway between London and Edinburgh.
York was founded in 71 AD when Cerialis and the Ninth Legion constructed a military fortress (castra) on flat ground above the River Ouse near its junction with the River Foss. The fortress was later rebuilt in stone, covered an area of 50 acres, and was inhabited by 6,000 soldiers.
The influence of the Vikings is apparent in York and throughout Yorkshire today in many street and place names – Stonegate, Swinegate, village names ending in 'by' and 'thorpe'. ... The Norman invasion of 1066 changed the face of York and Britain to one easily recognisable today.

York England has a history spanning over 2000 years, of which the medieval period played a significant part. York was one of medieval England's most powerful cities, rivalling London in size and importance- it was the main administrative and judicial centre for the north of England.
York has been named the 6th safest city in Britain, due in part to the great work of the North Yorkshire Police who help keep the crime rate incredibly low. So come and visit York 2021

Early life
York was born Susannah Yolande Fletcher in Chelsea, London, in 1939, the younger daughter of Simon William Peel Vickers Fletcher (1910–2002), a merchant banker and steel magnate, and his first wife, the former Joan Nita Mary Bowring – they married in 1935 and divorced prior to 1943. Her maternal grandfather was Walter Andrew Bowring, CBE, a British diplomat who served as Administrator of Dominica (1933–1935); she was a great-great-granddaughter of political economist Sir John Bowring. York had an elder sister, as well as a half-brother, Eugene Xavier Charles William Peel Fletcher, from her father's second marriage to Pauline de Bearnez de Morton de La Chapelle.

The first thing that strikes you about York when you arrive here is just how beautiful and ancient it all feels. It really is like stepping into another world on some streets, most notably the famous Shambles and the area around York Minster
York England is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition tracing the life of 15th-century Plantagenet King Richard III.
York is worth visiting at least once if you are in Yorkshire. The city has several historic landmarks and has a very romantic and scenic old town. With attractions like visiting the York Minster, the chocolate factory, the historic castle walls or the Shambles, you are in for a treat.
York was founded in 71 AD when Cerialis and the Ninth Legion constructed a military fortress (castra) on flat ground above the River Ouse near its junction with the River Foss. The fortress was later rebuilt in stone, covered an area of 50 acres, and was inhabited by 6,000 soldiers.
Perfectly placed half-way between London and Edinburgh and with the glorious Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Wolds right on the doorstep, York England is unlike any other English city. York is a walker’s paradise because most central streets in the historic district are for pedestrians only with many fascinating sights packed into a small area of just one square mile. Walking is definitely the best way to see this old city, so expect to do a lot of exploration on foot.
This town is surrounded by its original medieval high stone walls that protected it from attackers in the past and since then it's protected the town from modernization because you'll find that the old historic area within these walls is looking like it's about 500 years old and many of the buildings in fact are older.
The heart of town is completely free of automobiles, dedicated entirely to the pedestrian, filled with beautifully preserved buildings. This is not just a couple of streets without traffic, but an entire zone with a dozen small lanes that you can easily navigate on your own without fear of getting lost. While many towns in Europe have created such pedestrian zones, York was one of the first to make this transformation, and continues to expand that walking district.
The streets are narrow and wind in all directions with many old timber and plaster dwellings featuring overhanging stories and high-peaked red-tiled gables.
Today York is a lively city filled with culture, entertainment, shops, characters, legends and fine restaurants. The rich history comes to life in your visit because many of the old forts, palaces, churches and streets are preserved just as they were centuries ago, and several museums help tell that long story.
There is so much to see in this medieval gem you really could have fun for several days. You could easily find 100 things to do in your visit, so it is certainly worth spending at least three days to see it all. But if one day is all you can spare, we’re showing you how to squeeze in as much as possible.
There are so many wonderful sights to show you in York, England, such as the great cathedral towering over the medieval town and the famous narrow lane called the Shambles. York has one of the largest pedestrian zones in the country, filled with places to eat, and shop, and walk around. There is a street market every day and sometimes it's a very long market that takes up many city blocks.
You'll enjoy the scenic vistas along the river where you can sit at an outdoor café or take a boat ride. York is a great medieval city that's filled with lots of things to do and historic sites to enjoy.
We'll be taking you up into York castle and showing you the amazing medieval wall that's still standing and runs all the way around the city.
We'll spend most of our time strolling through this magnificent pedestrian zone with its old-fashioned buildings and modern shops. We'll take you on a big walk all around through the pedestrian center showing you the various attractive lanes, starting out with Petergate, one of the two or three main shopping streets.
Cars are not allowed in this area, that's called Within the Walls. There'll be some delivery vehicles in the morning, perhaps, and working vehicles with permits, but generally pedestrians are free to just stroll down the middle of the road here, making it a perfect place to meander.
It seems every few steps, you'll pass another place to eat - perhaps a nice French restaurant, or a snack shop, or maybe a pub.
It must be some kind of miracle these old buildings are preserved so well and then a testament to modern urban planning and the economy that they are thriving today with these businesses, all seeming to do very well.
