Leaving a narcissist is terrifying, but necessary. The only way to save yourself is to leave a narcissist behind. Narcissist are wired to gaslight, confuse you, scramble your mind, demean you, criticize, hoover, accuse, ridicule, embarrass, threaten, and destroy those in their lives.
Void of the ability to have empathy for others, the only choice someone has to survive this unhealthy dynamic, is to abandon the relationship.
When you are codependent, and you are in a relationship with a narcissist, you fear what they think of you. Because they know this, they do what they can to enhance that fear in you. Narcissists tell you what to think, and even what you think. They leave you wondering, "
Wait, is he right? Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Am I just too sensitive?
Maybe I am crazy? Maybe no body will ever love me like he does."
Narcissist speak their own language. They are often kind, and generous in the beginning of the relationship, but eventually begin dropping subtle insults. They wait to see if you tolerate the insult. If you do, then overtime they get more severe.
Leaving is not easy, but if you can arm yourself with concrete ideas to prepare yourself for the loneliness that is inevitably going to show up, you can move through this painful time with much less suffering.
