What's up guys, just wanted to make a quick
Shelby GT500 review after having this car as my "daily driver" for just over a year now
...
First, I just want to say, it's not always about the "absolute" performance, or looks, of your car, but more about "relative" performance/looks.
Whatever car you have, if you can just make minor improvements over time you will be happy. To start with I'd recommend you grab an air filter and some good car wash and wax. You'll be happy with the results.
No matter what car you have, eventually you are going to get used to the power and always be hungry for the next upgrades. The car I had before the Shelby GT500 was a modest V6 manual
Honda Accord EX coupe (
2006). It was a great all around car, and pretty quick, but after getting the Shelby GT500 I was obviously blown away by the power, torque, and attention I got on the streets. At this
point, after owning the car for 1 year, it's still great to drive, but I have to admit at this point I am pretty much used to the power for the most part. It is great to drive and exciting, but after a year the "power buzz" it isn't quite as much as it was the day I drove it off the lot. So that being said, if you are driving a Honda Accord now, or even a
Mustang GT,
Camaro,
Challenger, or any car just keep in mind that you can upgrade your current car and you'll be happy, but over time you'll always be hungry for the next best thing no matter what you have.
So on with my one year of ownership of the Shelby GT500...
It's an awesome car and it sure does make running errands, going to work, and just about everything (other than driving on gravel roads, or excessively bumpy/pothole laced roads) more fun.
If you are a genuine "car guy" you'll probably love this car just as much as me. If you are responsible and you can contain your lead foot, and you like the sound of a v8 exhaust, power on tap, and you like to look down at the shifter knob and seeing it vibrating from the power of the engine this may be the car for you...
On the other hand if you just want a car that is "mindless to drive" and you want an awesome stereo system (the only sound tracks I ever listen to are 2nd gear, 3rd gear, and sometimes 4th :P) and you want the tires to have
100% traction at all times, this may not be the car for you. The shelby
GT500 only comes in stick shift, so if you can't drive a manual (or don't like to drive stick) don't even consider this car.
The stereo system is decent, nothing special, but I have probably only used it in about 5% of the time I drive the car. I like to hear the engine, shifts, tires, etc to stay in tune
with the car, a true driving experience every time i'm in the seat.
If you are looking for a car to carve the twisties, this isn't going to be your best bet. When the road is hot and the tires are warm, this shelby gt500 is fun to drive on winding roads, but with so much power on tap you always have to be careful not to hit the throttle to hard in a turn because you can easily throw the car out of balance or kick the back end out and crash. For me, on turns I hold the throttle steady and slowly increase throttle towards the end of the turn, then as soon as the car is straight I hammer it. It's definitely a straight line accelerator, and fair weather machine.
It comes with stock tires, that are "pretty good" in the summer time, but once the temperature falls below 50F they are pretty much worthless. For me, it's been worth the trade off to have this in cold weather too, because no matter what you are driving in freezing conditions you need to be careful anyway. If you live somewhere hot, in the south, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of this car as opposed to somewhere it is cold for a significant portion of the year.
This is far from an all inclusive shelby gt500 review, but I just wanted to share some thoughts and my experience with the car so far for anyone who likes this car or is thinking of buying one.
All things considered, the car has been a great buy for me and I really enjoy the car, but I must admit that there are times I "just deal with it".
There's a lot of power on tap, it's fun to drive, but rarely can you push it to it's full potential on the streets. One nice thing about having so much power on tap is you don't ever really need to push the car "hard" to accelerate quickly or beat an average car off the line at a light if you want to merge over.
That's all I have for now guys, subscribe for more videos this summer. If you have any other questions leave them in the comments and
I'll get back to you. If you have any video ideas let me know! See you in my next video dudes!
