Hector Juan Samuel "Tico" Torres (born October 7, 1953) is an American drummer and percussionist for the rock band Bon Jovi. He also has taken lead vocals on a song on the box set 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong, as well as backing vocals on a couple of the early Bon Jovi tracks, notably "Born to Be My Baby" and "Love for Sale".
Hector Juan Samuel Torres was born on October 7, 1953, in New York, and brought up in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. His parents, Emma and Héctor, immigrated from Cuba in 1948. He attended John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Iselin. He has a sister called Opi.
Torres was a jazz fan as a youth and studied music with Joe Morello. In 1969 he played drums for the psychedelic rock band Six Feet Under. Before joining Bon Jovi in 1983 he had already played live with Joe Cerisano's R-Band aka Silver Condor in the New Jersey Rock circuit, and in the studio with Franke and the Knockouts, Pat Benatar, Chuck Berry, Cher, Alice Cooper and Stevie Nicks, recording a total of 26 albums with these artists. Tico was also one of the drummers auditioned by Kiss in 1980 after original drummer Peter Criss left the band.
Bon Jovi is an American rock band from Sayreville, New Jersey. Formed in 1983, Bon Jovi consists of lead singer and namesake Jon Bon Jovi (born John Francis Bongiovi, Jr.), pianist and keyboard player David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres. The band's lineup has remained mostly static during its history, with the only exceptions being the 1994 dismissal of bass player Alec John Such, who was unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald, and the departure of longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora in 2013. In 1986, Bon Jovi achieved widespread global recognition with their third album, Slippery When Wet. The band's fourth album, New Jersey was equally successful in 1988. After touring and recording non-stop during the late 1980s, the band went on hiatus following the New Jersey Tour in 1990, during which time Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora both released successful solo albums. In 1992, the band returned with the album Keep the Faith. Their 2000 single "It's My Life", which followed a second hiatus, successfully introduced the band to a younger audience. Bon Jovi have been known to use different styles in their music, which has included country for their 2007 album Lost Highway. On March 12, 2013, Bon Jovi released their 12th studio album, What About Now.
Modern Drummer is a monthly publication targeting the interests of drummers and percussionists. The magazine features interviews, equipment reviews, and columns offering advice on technique, as well as information for the general public. Modern Drummer is also available on the internet.
First published in 1977, today the print version of Modern Drummer is available in 67 countries. The monthly digital edition, enhanced with music and videos corresponding to the current issue’s contents, is available on the internet. An electronic newsletter featuring unique editorial, MD Wire, is also published monthly. A corresponding website is used to supplement the magazine with blogs and other items which cannot be provided in the paper format (e.g., audio-video presentations).
In 1993 Modern Drummer Publications introduced a bimonthly drum dealer-oriented magazine called Drum Business, and for more than 20 years its book division has released works by drum educators. In 2006 the company published its first hardcover book on the history of drumming, entitled The Drummer: 100 Years Of Rhythmic Power And Invention. Since 1987 it has also produced the Modern Drummer Festival.
Tico (feminine tica, plural ticos, ticas) is a colloquial term for a native of Costa Rica. Costa Ricans are usually called ticos by themselves and persons of other Spanish-speaking countries, in place of the more formal costarricenses.
There are two popular explanations of the origin of the term tico. The first is that it derives from the tendency of Costa Ricans to use -tico as the diminutive suffix in Spanish instead of the more common and widely used -ito. Literally -tico, when used as a suffix, in Costa Rican Spanish denotes something very small, as the suffix -ito would. Use of -tico versus -ito depends on the word, as not all of them would be easily adapted to -tico suffix.
However, this suffix is not unique to Costa Rican Spanish, and is also used in standard Spanish throughout (such as in Cuba, Dominican Republic, and even Spain), with varying degrees of frequency. What is unique to Costa Rica is the use of this suffix to also denote affection. Words ending in -ico, -ica, -tico, -tica do not only mean 'small', but also denote affection and similar feelings as well.

"I never take the song out of context, that's the key. I always believe I'm not a drummers drummer, but more a drummer for the song. There's time for a drummer to be a drummer." "Your playing is molded by who you listen to and who you hang out with," Torres says. "[People] would tell me, 'You're not the most technical guy, but you have feel.' Always play for the song and follow the lead vocal. Sometimes simplicity is genius." Bon Jovi is currently on the Because We Can worldwide tour promoting the band's latest release, What About Now. Jon Bon Jovi born out of small-town, blue-collar New Jersey, Bon Jovi emerged as a revolutionary force in '80s rock and roll. They sold over 80 million albums, and scored eight top 10 hits between 1986 and 1989. However, the group's grueling schedule nearly tore them apart: in 1990, after four consecutive albums and two major world tours, Bon Jovi split up. After several members pursued solos efforts, Bon Jovi regrouped in '92 with a another multiplatinum album, but the band's problems didn't disappear and "Behind the Music" covers it all. In '94, they fired their close friend and original bass player, Alec John Such. Today, the members of Bon Jovi continue to live fruitful lives: Tico Torres has turned a passion for art into a second career as a painter and sculptor; Dave Bryan has been t...

Si alguien pudiera decirme
qué fue y qué pasó
Si alguien pudiera contarme
como se escapó
Busqué por la barra del bar
y ya nadie la vio
Yo quise encontrarla en la playa
y ella se olvidó
Voy por la vereda del sol
buscando un destino con vos
abriendo caminos mi amor
y estoy mucho mejor
Te pido que tengas confianza
no voy olvidar
el rato que juntos pasamos
tu y yo frente al mar
Ya no quiero hacerme preguntas
no quiero pensar
si vienes o pegas la vuelta
si estás o te vas
Voy por la vereda del sol
buscando un destino con vos
abriendo caminos mi amor
y estoy mucho mejor
