Michael Karman on Farside's 1989 Piranha Long Barrels
Michael Karman talks about a batch of PMI Piranha Long Barrel pumps made as a collaboration between PMI, AGD and Direct Connect for the team he was competing with, Farside.
These Piranha Long barrels were labeled D.C. Farside on the barrel. DC stood for Direct Connect, Farside's primary Sponsor.
These paintguns featured Tom Kaye's Turbo valve design which boosted the shot count and were set up with Tom Kaye's / AGD's Micro CA or Six Pak 12 gram changers.
Farside used these paintguns in the 1989 Line SI Lively Masters. I am not sure how they finished that year.
PMI also provided engraved / or acid etched guns to the Lords of Discipline who took 1st in the 5 man and the 15 man that year. I believe the PMI Piranhas and Sudden Death also received guns from PMI and AGD. Sudden Death finished 2...

Michael Karman on the Direct Connect and the F1 Illustrator
Michael Karman remembers some of the relationships that Direct Connect had with manufacturers in the paintball industry in the late 1980s and early 90s before merging with PMI.
Michael mentions working with Dan Colby of Air America, with the Hose Shop which eventually became Ninja Paintball. Direct Connect had worked with AGD on bringing out the Panther with the help of Daisy but when that fell through they pursued the F1 Illustrator with Ken Farrel of Fastech.
In the 1990 Line SI / Lively Master, Michael played with Scream, who was sponsored by Direct Connect and using / testing the F1 Illustrator (prototypes/pre productions).
Michael remembers testing a lot of F1s as rental markers to figure out the flaws with the design before they began retail.

Michael Karman on Combat Connection and Bob Howerton
Michael Karman remembers Bob Howerton, the founder of Combat Connection out of Hammond, In. Howerton passed away in the late 1980s and Combat Connections was continued on by Bob's daughters, Robin Howerton-Rehberg and Sherri Howerton Petrucci (sp?). Eventually Kent Carroll, a team member on Swarm, joined and production of modified Sheridan (Swarm Guns and Enforcers) at Combat Connections continued.
Karman remembers that "Bob was a great guy to bring your Sheridan products to, he would just make it into a long range shooting machine that was just unbelievable."
Michael explains that Bob did both valve work and rebarreling and hone out the barrel and auto triggers and quick strip notches.
Early on Kent had his own shop and was partners in (possibly Fox River Games) and ran a computer store ...
