Peter Ellis and myself took a drive to Ian's in the late 90's to film and play music with him. Peter took audio recordings for the Canberra National Archives and I took footage which is what you see here. Ian can't use his left hand on the bass of his button accordion so instead he uses his foot on a modified electronic keyboard.

Ian Johnston (police officer)
Sir William Ian Ridley Johnston, CBE, QPM, DL was the Chief Constable of British Transport Police. He became Chief Constable on 1 May 2001 when he succeeded David Williams QPM, who had served as Chief Constable for three and a half years.
Early life
Johnston was born in 1945.
Police career
Johnston joined the Metropolitan Police in 1965 and served as Staff Officer to former Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Peter Imbert. In 1982, he graduated from London School of Economics with a first in Social Administration.
Having completed the Senior Command Course at Bramshill, Johnston moved to Kent Constabulary in 1989, where he served as Assistant Chief Constable in charge of first Administration and Supply, and then Operations, before moving back to the Metropolitan Police in 1992 as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner.
In 1994 he was appointed Assistant Commissioner for the South East London area, but in 1999 moved to Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Territorial Policing in 2000.

The Rev
James Owen Sullivan (February 9, 1981 – December 28, 2009), professionally known by his stage name The Rev (shortened version of The Reverend Tholomew Plague), was an American musician, composer and songwriter, best known as the drummer, composer, songwriter, co-lead vocalist and founding member for the American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. The Rev was widely regarded and critically acclaimed for his work on Avenged Sevenfold albums, and contributed entire songs written and composed by himself, such as Chapter Four, Afterlife, "A Little Piece of Heaven" and Almost Easy. He was also the lead vocalist/pianist in Pinkly Smooth, a side project where he was known by the name Rathead, with fellow Avenged Sevenfold member and childhood best friend, guitarist Synyster Gates, and he was the drummer for Suburban Legends from 1998 to 1999.
Career
Sullivan grew up and lived in Orange County, CA. He received his first pair of drum sticks at the age of five and own drum set at the age of ten. In high school, he started playing in bands. Before leaving to join Avenged Sevenfold as one of the band's founding members, Sullivan was the drummer for the third wave ska band Suburban Legends. At the age of twenty he recorded his first album with Avenged Sevenfold titled Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. His early influences included Frank Zappa and King Crimson. The Rev said in a Modern Drummer Magazine interview that "I was raised on that stuff as much as rock and metal."

Peter Ellis and myself took a drive to Ian's in the late 90's to film and play music with him. Peter took audio recordings for the Canberra National Archives and I took footage which is what you see here. Ian can't use his left hand on the bass of his button accordion so instead he uses his foot on a modified electronic keyboard.

Last week, Williams was sentenced to a minimum 30-year jail term after paralysing her love rival with a stun-gun before "slaughtering her like an animal".
The 35-year-old shot businesswoman Ms Hartley, 60, with a 500,000-volt weapon as her unsuspecting victim answered the door on January 14.
With "demonic savagery", she used an eight-inch carving knife to stab the semi-paralysed mother-of-two through the face and neck, inflicting more than 40 stab and slash wounds, before leaving her in a pool of blood in the hallway of her £500,000 home in Helmshore, Lancashire.
Jealous Williams, described as a "psycho" and "bunny boiler", was a "kept woman" already in a relationship with a wealthy 75-year-old "sugar daddy" amid affairs with other men, but had a brief fling with ex-fireman Ian Johnston.
He dumped her and begun a new life with Ms Hartley - but explicit photos and sex texts continued between the pair while Williams plotted the "perfect murder" for 18 months to kill her rival and win him back.
Williams made no reaction as she was convicted of murder and jailed for life, with a minimum of 30 years behind bars.
Her accomplice, horse-riding instructor, Katrina Walsh, who kept notes detailing the murder plot in her diary, was given life with a minimum 25-year term.
Footage also shows Walsh, 56, appearing to hyperventilate as she is interviewed by police.
The scenes were caught on camera by TV production company Raw Cut TV, who were making a documentary about Lancashire Police for ITV.
Steve Warr, executive producer of Raw Cut TV, told MailOnline: "We were privileged to get the inside story of the investigation and the story that evolved is stranger than any crime drama."
Williams and Walsh, both from Chester, denied murder and blamed each other during the seven-week trial at Preston Crown Court.
Passing sentence, Mr Justice Turner said the "unimaginable ferocity" of the stun gun and stabbing of "loving mother" Ms Hartley was like the "slaughtering of an animal".
He added: "Let no-one believe this was a crime of passion. It was a crime of obsession, of arrogance and of barbarity, but above all a crime of pure evil."
Outside court, Ms Hartley's son, Harry, 25, flanked by his sister, Charlotte, 23, said they had received some justice, before adding: "It will never be enough.
"It will never bring our mum back ... for her family and friends, this will be never-ending."
Williams first met Mr Johnston at the Chill Factore dry ski slope in Manchester in 2012, the pair exchanged phone numbers and "flirty" texts followed.
She then turned up at his house wearing a short skirt, high heels and red lipstick, and the relationship became sexual.
Williams had been seeing wealthy, married oil firm owner David Hardwick, 75, since she was 17 and the two enjoyed dozens of exotic holidays a year, him putting £1,280 a month in her bank.
Text messages continued between Williams and Mr Johnston as he and Ms Hartley grew closer and eventually began living together.

Lancashire Police was being followed by a TV crew when officers received the call to the crime scene at Mrs Hartley's home in the village of Helmshore on January 14.
Cameras then recorded every stage of the investigation as detectives pieced together evidence and unpicked a web of lies before finally unearthing the truth behind the vicious killing.
The dramatic footage includes the moment killer Sarah Williams, 35, was charged with murder and when accomplice Katrina Walsh led police to the murder weapons.
The Murder Of Sadie Hartley, which airs at 9pm tonight on ITV, also features interviews with Mrs Hartley's daughter Charlotte, who speaks of losing her 'hero' mother.
In one chilling scene, riding instructor Walsh, 56, is captured sobbing on the floor of the police station as she arrives to be questioned under caution for the first time.
She claims to have a three-day memory before telling an officer that she believes her friend Sarah Williams is a 'psychopath' and had killed Mrs Hartley.
With no hint of emotion, Walsh adds: 'She wants to take Ian off the b****', referring to Mrs Hartley's partner Ian Johnson, with whom Williams had previously had a relationship.
Williams and Walsh were both convicted of murder last month following a seven-week trial at Preston Crown Court.
The jury heard that, consumed with jealousy after her relationship with Mr Johnston broke down and he rekindled a romance with Mrs Hartley, Williams attacked her love rival with a 500,000-volt stun gun and stabbed her 40 times at her home.
Evidence later revealed how she and Walsh had hatched an 18-month-long plan to kill Mrs Hartley which involved scouting her house, travelling to Germany to buy a weapon, and purchasing a second-hand car in a bid to evade detection.
Justice caught up with Williams three days after the attack and the scene was caught by production company Raw Cut TV, who made the documentary for ITV.
Ski instructor Williams was filmed sitting bolt upright in bed after being abruptly woken by the five officers sent to detain her at 3.10am on January 17.
PC Jane Davies, who can be seen here telling her she is under arrest, would later tell Williams’s trial that at that moment ‘she appeared dazed and confused’.
In another dramatic moment, Walsh is seen leading police across a farm, pointing out where she buried the stun gun and pepper spray used in the vicious attack.
She also reveals where she left a set of car keys that are 'significant' to the investigation.
The documentary also hears from Mrs Hartley's 23-year-old daughter, Charlotte, who says she wants her mother to be remembered as the 'happy, lovely lady she was'.
She adds tearfully: 'This wasn't supposed to happen to her. The fact someone has taken her life for no reason whatsover is disgusting.
'She has got two children, she has got her whole family that loves her. It is just numbing. I feel strongly that it has ruined me and my brother's life.'

Maybe the reason why the UK public decided to stay away from voting in the election of Police and crime commissioners, who will have the power to set 41 police force strategies and budgets. Was simply saturation coverage, of international elections in the past few weeks. Or maybe, it was because this first time election role wasn't explained or promoted well enough to the public.
But for those that did make the effort to vote, those elected include so far: six Labour, six Conservative, and three are independents. Independent Ian Johnston who has been officially declared the police and crime commissioner for Gwent. In Essex, Conservative Nick Alston takes the role after second preference votes were counted. Labour's Barry Coppinger becomes the police and crime commissioner for Cleveland. Ron Hogg is elected for Labour as Durham's police and crime commissioner. In Suffolk, Conservative Tim Passmore takes the commissioner's job after second preferences are counted.
Meanwhile, Surrey's vote is expected to go to a second round, with an independent neck-and-neck with Conservative. Results so far suggest the "zero tolerance policing" independent Kevin Hurley and Conservative Julie Iles will be in the second round.
And Labour as expected have won the Corby by-election, but, this poor result is likely to reflect badly on Prime Minister David Cameron's leadership. As the Tories have not lost a seat for 15 years at a by-election.
Another reason for low turnout was little information on the candidates and their background, and as we all know in modern politics, 'personality sells'. But spoiled voting ballot papers showed a very real disillusionment, so with this in mind, the turn out figures of ranging from 13-20% isn't a total surprise then.

A ski instructor has been jailed for life for brutally murdering her lover rival in a plot described as a 'game of death'.
Sarah Williams knocked out Ms Hartley with a stun gun before repeatedly stabbing her at the victim's home in the village of Helmshore, Lancashire.
The jury had heard how 'bunny boiler' Williams had become obsessed with Ms Hartley's partner, former fireman Ian Johnston.
She spent months plotting the attack with her friend Katrina Walsh, who was also convicted of murder today.
Williams was ordered to serve a minimum 30-year life sentence. Walsh will spend at least 25 years behind bars.
Passing sentence, judge Mr Justice Turner said 'loving mother' Ms Hartley was 'slaughtered like an animal'.
He told the pair: 'Neither of you have shown the slightest remorse... let no-one believe this was a crime of passion. It was a crime of obsession, of arrogance and of barbarity, but above all a crime of pure evil.'
Williams swallowed hard as the forewoman delivered the guilty verdict today, while Walsh, who has alopecia, gave a slight nod of her head.
Ms Hartley's daughter, Charlotte, wiped away tears as she sat in the public gallery next to Garry Hartley, her father and Sadie's ex-husband, and her brother, Harry.
Mr Johnston, sitting a few rows behind them, had tears in his eyes and gave a slight nod as the verdicts came in.
In an interview recorded ahead of today's verdicts, Mr Johnston sobbed as he admitted he would always regret sending explicit messages to Sadie's killer days before she was murdered on her doorstep.
He said: 'If people feel that in some way that I've let them down and that I'm responsible by texting, I'm profoundly sorry for that and I'll regret it forever.
'And I never for one minute believed that a few chuck-away ridiculous texts could ever lead to such atrocious events and such unimaginable loss for not just me, I know that, for Sadie's family, her kids and our friends'.
He said Ms Hartley's family had not spoken to him since the murder and he only found out he was not in the will during the trial.
After more than a year planning the killing, Williams went to the front door of Ms Hartley's £500,000 home on January 14 this year.
When her rival answered the door, Williams paralysed her with a 500,000 volt stun-gun before stabbing her 40 times.
The judge added: 'Sadie Hartley died for your amusement. The contrast between her life affirming generosity of spirit and your vile, destructive, resentful and self-regarding hypocrisy could hardly be starker.
'The meandering and over-elaborate planning served to heighten your pleasure by deliciously postponing your ultimate and inevitable gratification.

A ski instructor has been jailed for life for brutally murdering her lover rival in a plot described as a 'game of death'.
Sarah Williams knocked out Ms Hartley with a stun gun before repeatedly stabbing her at the victim's home in the village of Helmshore, Lancashire.
The jury had heard how 'bunny boiler' Williams had become obsessed with Ms Hartley's partner, former fireman Ian Johnston.
She spent months plotting the attack with her friend Katrina Walsh, who was also convicted of murder today.
Williams was ordered to serve a minimum 30-year life sentence. Walsh will spend at least 25 years behind bars.
Passing sentence, judge Mr Justice Turner said 'loving mother' Ms Hartley was 'slaughtered like an animal'.
He told the pair: 'Neither of you have shown the slightest remorse... let no-one believe this was a crime of passion. It was a crime of obsession, of arrogance and of barbarity, but above all a crime of pure evil.'
Williams swallowed hard as the forewoman delivered the guilty verdict today, while Walsh, who has alopecia, gave a slight nod of her head.
Ms Hartley's daughter, Charlotte, wiped away tears as she sat in the public gallery next to Garry Hartley, her father and Sadie's ex-husband, and her brother, Harry.
Mr Johnston, sitting a few rows behind them, had tears in his eyes and gave a slight nod as the verdicts came in.
In an interview recorded ahead of today's verdicts, Mr Johnston sobbed as he admitted he would always regret sending explicit messages to Sadie's killer days before she was murdered on her doorstep.
He said: 'If people feel that in some way that I've let them down and that I'm responsible by texting, I'm profoundly sorry for that and I'll regret it forever.
'And I never for one minute believed that a few chuck-away ridiculous texts could ever lead to such atrocious events and such unimaginable loss for not just me, I know that, for Sadie's family, her kids and our friends'.
He said Ms Hartley's family had not spoken to him since the murder and he only found out he was not in the will during the trial.
After more than a year planning the killing, Williams went to the front door of Ms Hartley's £500,000 home on January 14 this year.
When her rival answered the door, Williams paralysed her with a 500,000 volt stun-gun before stabbing her 40 times.
The judge added: 'Sadie Hartley died for your amusement. The contrast between her life affirming generosity of spirit and your vile, destructive, resentful and self-regarding hypocrisy could hardly be starker.
'The meandering and over-elaborate planning served to heighten your pleasure by deliciously postponing your ultimate and inevitable gratification.

Reinventing Consumption is a three-room installation by sculptor Ian Johnston, whose work investigates object production while questioning the cycles that eventually see the castoffs of the material world enter sensitive biological ecospheres. The first space, The Inventor's Room, provides a glimpse into the glorious creative process of making. The Antechamber enlists the tropes of mass production and considers the scale at which we create and consume. The Chamber provides a space to contemplate the environmental impact of mass production through the forces of breath, fire, and water.
Ian Johnston is an architect-turned-sculptor based in Nelson, BC. He has exhibited his sculptural ceramic work internationally since the mid-nineties. Johnston studied architecture at Algonquin College and Carleton University in Ottawa, and with the University of Toronto at Paris, France. Prior to opening his Nelson studio in 1996, he spent five years working at the Bauhaus Academy in post-Berlin Wall East Germany. At the Bauhaus, together with two architects, he developed and facilitated a series of semester-long international, interdisciplinary workshops around themes of urban renewal and public intervention in a tumultuous time of cultural transformation. His current work examines our relationship with the environment in installations that use ceramic and mixed media and appeal to multiple senses of the viewer.
