"Brother" Jack McDuff (September 17, 1926 – January 23, 2001) was an American jazz organist and organ trio bandleader who was most prominent during the hard bop and soul jazz era of the 1960s, often performing with an organ trio. He is also credited with giving guitarist George Benson his first break.
Born Eugene McDuffy in Champaign, Illinois, McDuff began playing bass, appearing in Joe Farrell's group. Encouraged by Willis Jackson in whose band he also played bass in the late 50s, McDuff moved to the organ and began to attract the attention of Prestige Records while still with Jackson's group. McDuff soon became a bandleader, leading groups featuring a young George Benson,Red Holloway on saxophone and Joe Dukes on drums.
McDuff recorded many classic albums on Prestige including his debut solo Brother Jack in 1960, The Honeydripper (1961), with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Forrest and guitarist Grant Green,Brother Jack Meets The Boss (1962), featuring Gene Ammons, and Screamin’ (1962).
Brother Jack is the debut album by organist Jack McDuff recorded in 1960 and released on the Prestige label.
Allmusic awarded the album 3 stars stating "Recorded in 1960, the session is a transitional one, both for jazz organ and for one of the instrument's leading players".

Jean DuShon (born Anna Jean Harris, 16 August 1935) is an American jazz and R&B singer, and stage actor. She is best known for her recordings in the 1960s, including the first recording of the song "For Once in My Life".
Born in Detroit, she sang in church as a child, and later entered and won local talent contests. She turned professional at 15, and began performing in nightclubs. She was influenced by Dinah Washington, and on one occasion was confronted by an angry Washington who accused her of copying her. She studied at the Detroit Conservatory, and attracted the attention of music business agent John Levy, the manager of singer Nancy Wilson. He won DuShon singing engagements across the US, and after he and Wilson had a row vowed that he would make DuShon a bigger star than she was. However, she then married Freddie Atwell, who became her manager, and they relocated to New York City.
DuShon then joined Cootie Williams' band as featured vocalist, before being spotted by Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records, who paired her with young producer Phil Spector. They recorded a version of Little Willie John's "Talk to Me, Talk to Me" on Atco in 1961, but it was unsuccessful. DuShon then recorded singles with various labels including Lennox, OKeh and Columbia, before joining Chess Records in 1964. There she recorded three albums. The first, Make Way for Jean DuShon, was recorded with the Lou Donaldson quintet and was released on the Argo subsidiary label in 1964. It was followed by You Better Believe Me, with the Ramsey Lewis Trio, in 1965, and finally Feeling Good, again with Donaldson and arranged by Oliver Nelson, on the Cadet label in 1966.

The disc features his quartet that consists of: Paul Bollenback, guitar; McClenty Hunter, drums; and Paul Gill, Bass. Jim's playing style is remincient of sax legends Phil Woods and Lee Konitz. Yet, he stands out mainly for his fresh and fiery compositions. The Washington, DC native was in love with jazz when he entered high school and took it seriously when he attended the University of North Texas. Upon graduation he moved to New York City where he became both a well-accomplished session musician, but also a critically-acclaimed educator. Hammond Organ Center, now Drawbarcity, has been very fortunate to be a place where many of the great Hammond Organists of Philadelphia were able to come an visit. We also hosted many special projects such as interviews and even a couple of live radio broadcasts. On April 18th, 2002 we hosted the taping of an interview with Jimmy McGriff and Joey DeFrancesco, for the BBC. This was a rather rare treat. Even though McGiff and Joey saw each other a lot they never did an album together and only did a hand full of concerts together. Other then this interview we don't think they were ever interviewed together. Both organists share some interesting information. Also, the respect that Joey DeFrancesco shows Jimmy McGriff, you truly get the feeling that they were good friends, which they were. SP...

Alto saxophonist, composer, and educator Jim Snidero's latest Savant Records release 'Interface' further showcases his expansion as a writer as well as soloist. Jim as a musician has been a long and fruitful journey playing and backing with the likes ...
Jack of Diamonds is a fairytale with a twist - set against contemporary Manchester as a backdrop, the film tells the story of a corrupt policeman and his relationship with his young daughter amidst the seedy underworld of the city. The film was originally shot and cut in just over 3 days as part of Filmonik KinoKabaret 2011. The edit and score were then revisited and tweaked. Directed, shot and cut by Mat Johns Written by Phil McDuff and Mat Johns.

My Father always told me that this was the best JAZZ album that he had heard in his entire life. He once sent me on a quest to find it for him for his birthday, because he no longer had a copy of it. I only wish I would have found this album two years ago before his passing. By Roosevelt Sanders The Natural Thing is a 1968 album by organist Brother Jack McDuff which was his first release on the Cadet label. Hammond B3 groovemeister "Brother" Jack McDuff carried on with his timeless patented boogaloo jazz on The Natural Thing from 1968, but is unfortunately drowned out by the overpowering punchy crunching horn charts of arranger Richard Evans. For that reason, this isn't one of McDuff's strongest dates, but it does contain enjoyable moments sans horns (especially "Funky Guru") guaranteed...
