One of the most memorable Road Runner cartoons features Wile E. Coyote strapping rockets onto his roller skates in an ill-advised attempt to catch the blindingly fast bird. Things didn't work out for Wile E., but seem to be looking up for Acton founder Peter Treadway. The first iteration of Treadway's electric-powered skates made their debut on KickStarter in 2012. Here's something we didn't expect to test at CES. Acton's RocketSkates was a Kickstarted invention to put electric motorized wheels on your shoes. Will puts on a pair of these futuristic skates to try to learn how to move around in them, and then chats with its inventor to learn how this idea came about.

Mashable's Sam Sheffer took the Blink-Board electric skateboard from Acton for a test ride, and totally loved it. You can ride it forward up to 12 m.p.h, as well as backward. Also it has a 6 mile range on charge and 2 hour charge time according to manufacturer, with a price point of $499.

South Acton Heritage project 2014. Acton Arts Forum was awarded Heritage Lottery Funding for this exciting project, highlighting the changing landscape and diversity of the South Acton area through a programme of research, events and exhibitions. The project focused on Acton's places and its people. Key local residents were identified, interviewed and filmed. A series of training workshops teaching the essentials of film making and photography took place from February on. Interviews took place between March and August at various South Acton locations. Volunteers filmed 20+ key South Acton residents, plus groups & sites. We undertook in-depth interviews with Michael Wallis, John Gallagher, Robbie Pearson, Brandy Pearson, Maureen Colledge, Abdulmaalik Tailor, Karen Clarke, Leathon La Crette, Lubna Khan, Daniel Ramdeen, Leon Joseph, Specky Rental, Peter John Savory, Anne Woolsey, Carol Woolsey, Alan Woolsey, Adam Matan, Dorothy Chenneour, Jacqui Robert, Bill Taylor, Charlie Pottins, Reg Elkins and UNITE Retired Trade Unionists. Editing training & workshops took place right up to the film screening at in October 2014. We held a special film screenings where those interviewed & their guests attended. The South Acton Art walk also involved interviews & documented the guided walk. The project has captured some amazing stories and archives have emerged. Joel F. Salatin (born 1957) is an American farmer, lecturer, and author whose books include Folks, This Ain't Normal, You Can Farm, and Salad Bar Beef.
Salatin raises livestock using holistic methods of animal husbandry, free of potentially harmful chemicals, on his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. Meat from the farm is sold by direct-marketing to consumers and restaurants.
In high school, Salatin began his own business selling rabbits, eggs, butter and chicken from his family farm at the Staunton Curb Market. He then attended Bob Jones University where he majored in English and was a student leader. He graduated in 1979. Salatin married his childhood sweetheart in 1980 and became a feature writer at the Staunton, Virginia newspaper, The News Leader, where he had worked earlier typing obituaries and police reports.
Tired of "having his stories spiked," he decided to try farming full-time after first getting involved in a walnut-buying station run by two high school boys. Salatin's grandfather had been an avid gardener and beekeeper and a follower of J. I. Rodale, the founder of regenerative organic gardening. Salatin's father worked as an accountant and his mother taught high school physical education. Salatin's parents had bought the land that became Polyface in 1961 after losing a farm in Venezuela to political turmoil. They had raised cattle using organic methods, but could not make a living at farming alone.

Acton Arts Forum was awarded Heritage Lottery Funding for this exciting project, highlighting the changing landscape and diversity of the South Acton area through a programme of research, events and exhibitions. The project focused on Acton's places and its people. Key local residents were identified, interviewed and filmed.
