Apology to Peter Dalton

It has been brought to our attention that reference to Senior Sergeant Peter Dalton in the book we published "Bent - Australia's Crooked Cops" was false and defamatory of him.

The book stated:

"In June 2002 he became a registered confidential police informant and as a result a Sergeant Dalton, who acted as his handler, was alleged to have set up a joint phone betting account, with Henderson accepting almost $8000 from him - but never asking where the money came from."

Reference should not have been made to Sergeant Dalton but to a Wayne Talbot. Reference to Sergeant Dalton was made in error and is deeply regretted by Melbourne University Publishing.

In the circumstances, we unequivocally apologise to Senior Sergeant Dalton for the erroneous reference to him and for any hurt or suffering he may have incurred.
