Loma Verde es una pequeña comunidad rural en el norte de Nicaragua, situada en un paraje de verdes colinas y cafetales. Allí la vida transcurre en una aparente calma pero un día, la tranquilidad del pueblo se ve perturbada por la aparición de unos afiches relacionados con la prevención del VIH y el uso del condón. Esto da mucho que hablar en la comunidad, principalmente entre las mujeres como Merche, la protagonista, una campesina humilde que vive sumisa y dedicada a su familia ¿y si lo que dicen en esos afiches fuera cierto?
A partir de estas incertidumbres se empiezan a develar intimidades y aparecen personajes con sus secretos y sus dramas ocultos. Pero en este mundo de mentiras, violencia, miedos y desconsuelos también surge la solidaridad, la picardía y el humor, para mostrarnos que Loma Verde, entre el cielo y el infierno, no es más que un espejo de nuestra realidad.

Formed in 2005, Loma Prieta have been a mainstay of the Bay Area hardcore community for a decade. While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling. Ultimately making each recording unique, while managing to forge a distinctive voice all their own.
"Self Portrait" is the latest album from Loma Prieta. A ten song masterwork recorded by engineer Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio (Deafheaven). Opener "Love" layers unorthodox melodies amid a tangle of pensive, despondent vocals. These humanly complex qualities loudly bleed into every aspect of the album. Driven by feedback drenched guitar work "Black Square", "Roadside Cross", "Net Gain", and "More Perfect" all effortlessly veer from one post everything sub-genre to the next. Leading to the beautifully skewed "Nostalgia", a song that creeps from the haze with dark harmonic leanings. "Never Remember", "Merciless", and "Rings" venture down a similar crash and bang path before closer "Satellite" takes flight. An emotional epic that delves deep into introspection before finding total sonic obliteration.

Plot: Keri turns up unannounced at the family home four days before Christmas. His parents, Brian and Loma, have long given up on a dream retirement as their savings have been whittled away by financially supporting their family. Loma is close to a breakdown with the stress, and her relationship with Brian has been reduced to a series of well worn rituals. Their eldest daughter, Megan, is living in their basement with her two children, Faith and Moses, and her boyfriend Brett, the father of her daughter Faith. Moses is from an earlier failed relationship and is only tolerated by Brett. Megan is an obsessive character who believes that she is the only one who does anything about the house and is jealous of the attention that the others seem to get. As the film unfolds we see the depth of her struggle and disappointments in life. The other daughter, Donna, is an enigmatic character through the early parts of the film. She is isolated; silently smoking outside, or picking at her food in the kitchen as the rest of the family are chatting and eating in front of television. There is a space of pain and loss around her. She spends a lot of time alone in her room taking pills, drinking straight spirits and just staring passively within the space. Donna is pregnant. Keri crashes on a squab in the corner of his childhood room shared with his youngest brother, Richard who spends most of his time wasted. Richard is a likeable character who has both loving and exuberant qualities. He seems unaffected by everything and able to brush off the negativety and stress around him with ease. He is a 'bro'. He is also gay. The family never talks about it. As Keri navigates his way through the relationships his own pain and demons come closer to home. He has been through a lot while away, physically and mentally. He needs to find meaning in family relationships and moves in and out of belonging and separation. Finally Keri's dissatisfaction with the family situation surfaces and things start to unravel.

Loma Verde es una pequeña comunidad rural en el norte de Nicaragua, situada en un paraje de verdes colinas y cafetales. Allí la vida transcurre en una aparente calma pero un día, la tranquilidad del pueblo se ve perturbada por la aparición de unos afiches relacionados con la prevención del VIH y el uso del condón. Esto da mucho que hablar en la comunidad, principalmente entre las mujeres como Merche, la protagonista, una campesina humilde que vive sumisa y dedicada a su familia ¿y si lo que dicen en esos afiches fuera cierto?
A partir de estas incertidumbres se empiezan a develar intimidades y aparecen personajes con sus secretos y sus dramas ocultos. Pero en este mundo de mentiras, violencia, miedos y desconsuelos también surge la solidaridad, la picardía y el humor, para mostrarnos que Loma Verde, entre el cielo y el infierno, no es más que un espejo de nuestra realidad.

Formed in 2005, Loma Prieta have been a mainstay of the Bay Area hardcore community for a decade. While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling. Ultimately making each recording unique, while managing to forge a distinctive voice all their own.
"Self Portrait" is the latest album from Loma Prieta. A ten song masterwork recorded by engineer Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio (Deafheaven). Opener "Love" layers unorthodox melodies amid a tangle of pensive, despondent vocals. These humanly complex qualities loudly bleed into every aspect of the album. Driven by feedback drenched guitar work "Black Square", "Roadside Cross", "Net Gain", and "More Perfect" all effortlessly veer from one post everything sub-genre to the next. Leading to the beautifully skewed "Nostalgia", a song that creeps from the haze with dark harmonic leanings. "Never Remember", "Merciless", and "Rings" venture down a similar crash and bang path before closer "Satellite" takes flight. An emotional epic that delves deep into introspection before finding total sonic obliteration.
