On June 24, Iranian Superstar Andy Madadian went into an LA recording studio with Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and American record producers Don Was and John Shanks to record a musical message of worldwide solidarity with the people of Iran. This version of the old Ben E. King classic is not for sale - it was not meant to be on the Billboard charts or even manufactured as a CD.....it's intended to be downloaded and shared by the Iranian people...to give voice to the sentiment that all people of the world stand together....the handwritten Farsi sign in the video translates to "we are one". Don Was (born Don Fagenson; September 13, 1952) is an American musician, bassist and record producer.
Was was born in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Oak Park High School (Michigan) in the Detroit suburb of Oak Park, then attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor but dropped out after the first year. A journeyman musician, he grew up listening to the Detroit blues sound and the jazz music of John Coltrane and Miles Davis.
Using the stage name "Don Was", he formed the group Was (Not Was) with school friend David Weiss (David Was). The group found commercial success in the 1980s - releasing four albums and logging several hit records. A jazz/R&B album of Hank Williams covers, "Forever's A Long, Long Time" was released in 1996, under the name Orquestra Was. In 2008, Was (Not Was) reunited for an acclaimed new album and tour.
Don Was has earned his recognition as a record producer and has recorded with an array of artists from The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Ziggy Marley, Bob Seger, Al Green, Lucinda Williams, Garth Brooks, Ringo Starr, Iggy Pop, Lyle Lovett, Kris Kristofferson, Joe Cocker, Hootie and The Blowfish, Amos Lee and Willie Nelson to Elton John, Stevie Nicks, George Clinton, Randy Newman, The Black Crowes, Carly Simon, Travis Tritt, Brian Wilson, Jackson Browne, The Barenaked Ladies, Old Crow Medicine Show, Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Richie Sambora, The Presidents of the United States of America, B.B. King, Paul Westerberg, Kurt Elling, Poison, Cheb Khaled, The B-52's, Zucchero, Todd Snider, Elizabeth Cook, Jill Sobule and Solomon Burke. He has received multiple Grammy Awards including Producer of the Year in 1995. He produced several albums for Bonnie Raitt including her Nick of Time album that won the 1990 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

On 22 November 1981, in the middle of their mammoth American tour, the Rolling Stones arrived in Chicago prior to playing 3 nights at the Rosemont Horizon. Long influenced by the Chicago blues, the band paid a visit to Buddy Guy's club the Checkerboard Lounge to see the legendary bluesman perform.http://store.eagle-rock.com/muddywaters It didn't take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part. It was a unique occasion that was fortunately captured on camera. Only one word needed here-AMAZING! Don Baker was a self taught organist. IIt happened one night when Don was asked to fill in for an absent organist at the Long Island theater where Don was actually employed as a pianist. After two hours playing chords this was his first encounter with the instrument that would bring him world fame. It just shows the power of the organ to inspire. Listen to the original techniques that Don employs on this record. Don was not afraid to take chances either. For every instance that Don might fumble slightly, there are several times where he makes an innovative, and captivating turn for the better. De naam Fons Goossenaerts was misschien minder gekend, velen noemden hem "den Don". Een zekere gelijkenis met Don Camillo / Fernandel was hem niet vreemd. Zowel wat betreft uiterlijk, zijn brede glimlach, en misschien ook wel zijn manier van werken
Ter gelegenheid van die 15de verjaardag hadden enkelen van de chiro, waaronder mijn broer Jo, een film gemaakt met ondermeer interviews met verschillende mensen zowel binnen de parochie (oud-pastoor Vercammen, de nieuwe pastoor Vandervoort) als buiten de parochie (vrienden, studiegenoten, pastoors uit een vroegere parochie enz) .
In 2010 had Jo deze film overgedragen aan het poldermuseum. Ter gelegenheid van kijk op de wijk in 2014 werd deze film gedigitaliseerd, doch er was even paniek: de klankband was zoek. Na enig graven in oude tapes met grote spoelen (ken je ze nog: die grote 18 cm spoelen, voor de tijd van de cassettes) en het terug aan de praat brengen van mijn oude taperecorder met spoelen had ik gisterenavond, na het beluisteren en doorspoelen van zeven tapes, de juiste tape teruggevonden!
Vandaag samen met mijn broer Karel die tape gedigitaliseerd, en na een dag "noeste arbeid" de soundtrack terug min of meer gesynchroniseerd met de film, wat wel enige creativiteit vergde. We moeten het (voorlopig) resultaat nog even evalueren, maar eerstdaags hopen we deze 25 minuten durende film te kunnen publiceren.
Gedenk dat het audio en video techniek anno 1971 was, lang voor er PC's met software om films te monteren, en digitale videocamera's het leven eenvoudiger maakten op dat gebied. Vandaag vinden wij het bv doodnormaal dat bij een interview geluid en beeld lipsynchroon zijn, dat was in 1971 met apparatuur voor amateurs niet doenbaar.
Ik vind het resultaat behoorlijk, en het is naar mijn bescheiden mening een goede bijdrage tot vrijwaring van het Donks erfgoed!

CONN THEATRE DELUXE models of the early 60's are pretty much extinct these days. I can't find an image of one let alone know of one that has been listed for sale in the past couple of years. The Conn Theatre II is a little more common as it was introduced in 1966. As an organ player myself I have a Gulbransen Rialto II, a Wurlitzer 4500, a Thomas Palace III , a Hammond Elegante, a Wurlitzer 625t, and Wurlitzer 4410 and 31 electrostatic reed organs. Oh' and even have a Conn 543 theater spinet organ...but none of these, as beautiful as they sound, get the depth that the early Conn tube organs get. If you have an opportunity to get a Conn Theatre organ from the early 60's grab it!

There wasn't really much to see in the interview except for the last question which was the one and only question that was addressed to Roy. The quote was
Roy "My silly boy has allowed his eyes to grow arrogant and rude, for this I will take him on a trip to punish land."
