Welcome to diagnostic Services
Diagnostic Laboratory Services at the Animal Health Trust (AHT) runs a wide range of tests for companion animals. We aim to provide the Gold Standard veterinary diagnostic service, supporting veterinary surgeons and informing their clinical management.
Comprised of an experienced multi-disciplinary group of scientists and pathologists, DLS works together with veterinary surgeons and the animal welfare industries to provide a comprehensive service.
It is the function of the AHT’s Diagnostic & Genetics Laboratory Services to meet customer requirements and expectations by providing accurate, repeatable, reliable results and advancing veterinary science within the appropriate statutory, regulatory and quality framework.
We understand that every case is different, which is why we take a personal approach to our services; our technicians, vets and scientists are always happy to discuss cases and to offer further help. What is important to us is that you get the information and service you require to meet the needs of your patients, whether it is an enquiry about our tests or you want an epidemiologist to help manage an infectious disease outbreak.
SAFE GUARDING VETERINARY DIAGNOSTICS IN THE FUTURE
We aim to set the standard for veterinary diagnostics now and in the future. To do this we have to have the best understanding of these diseases, their epidemiology and their evolution.
But how?
All of the income from our laboratories is invested back into animal welfare, but the sample you send us is also very important. When our laboratories make a diagnosis, we work with experts to understand the disease better from the sample. This allows us to make recommendations to vaccine manufacturers, develop new tests and ensure our current tests are fit for purpose.
Our research is not just limited to the UK; we work closely with collaborators worldwide, supporting veterinary diagnostics and animal health across the globe.
The AHT really is the ethical choice for veterinary diagnostics, now and in the future.

DOES THE TEST WORK?
To have a tangible effect on animal health, we have to be sure that our tests work.
The AHT operates a quality management system which includes us being accredited to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
So what does this mean?
Achievement of this accreditation demonstrates that we have assured external assessors that we have stringent processes and procedures in place. These ensure we produce accurate, repeatable and reliable results by using effective, robust and documented test methods.
All our tests are technically sound, performed by competent personnel and implemented using good laboratory practices.
Our tests do what they are supposed to do and we can prove it!
And we’re committed to making them even better.
