Toowoomba

Toowoomba is located in the southern part of Queensland and is often referred to as 'The Garden City'. The nickname has been granted because of the more than 150 public parks and gardens featured throughout the city. As well as the fact that every September, Toowoomba hosts the Australian Carnival of Flowers that includes a home garden competition and procession of floral display floats. People come from all across the nation and a popular way to travel there is via chartered antique steam and diesel trains.

It has a population of approximately 131,258 people and it generally experiences a temperate climate. In 2011, the city was hit by flash flooding that killed 16 people and 14 people are still missing. The flash flood also resulted in severe damage to infrastructure and properties. The Australian Defense Force has a presence in the community because the city provides a lot of housing, amenities and services to personnel based in surrounding areas.
