Cinque Terre (Vernazza, Corniglia), Liguria , Italy
The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" is composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Over the centuries, people have carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Part of its charm is the lack of visible corporate development. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages, and cars cannot reach them from the outside. Cinque Terre I salute you and can't wait till the day I see you again.
In 1998, the Italian Ministry for the Environment set up the Protected natural marine area Cinque Terre to protect the natural environment and to promote socio-economical development compatible with the natural landscape of the area. In 1999 the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre was set up to conserve the ecological balance, protect the landscape, and safeguard the anthropological values of the location.

Hello world!
On this day we hiked from Vernazza to Monterosso Al Mare. In this video you will be able to see what this hike is like, see what the trails are like and see the beautiful views and scenery. Once we arrived in Monterosso we spent the afternoon on the beach where we had the opportunity to cool off, do some snorkeling, and jump off a cliff a few times.
If you're ever in Cinque Terre and you want to do some hiking I would definitely recommend this one. It is about 2.5 miles (4 km) and can be done in about 90 minutes. As you can see in my video it took me longer, but I have my reasons :) By no means would I say that this is an easy hike. The first mile to two miles is pretty steep, but not too bad. Make sure you take enough water and if you do this in the summer be prepared to sweat you a$$ off; so bring extra clothes. The trail is clearly marked and as I already mentioned the views are beautiful This video doesn't do this hike justice. It was an amazing experience and I would definitely do it again.

Vernazza is a town and comune located in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, northwestern Italy. It is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region. Vernazza is the fourth town heading north, has no car traffic and remains one of the truest "fishing villages" on the Italian Riviera.
Vernazza's name is derived from the Latin adjective verna meaning "native" and the aptly named indigenous wine, "vernaccia" ("local" or "ours"), helped give birth to the village's moniker.
First records recognizing Vernazza as a fortified town date back to the year 1080. Referred to as an active maritime base of the Obertenghi, a family of Italian nobility, it was a likely point of departure for naval forces in defence of pirates.
Over the next two centuries Vernazza was vital in Genova's conquest of Liguria, providing port, fleet and soldiers. In 1209, the approximately 90 most powerful families of Vernazza pledged their allegiance to the republic of Genova.
The first documented presence of a Church dates back to 1251, with the parish of San Pietro sited in 1267. Reference to the Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia of Vernazza occurs in 1318. Some scholars are of the opinion, due to the use of materials and mode of construction, that the actual creation of the Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia took place earlier, sometime in the 12th century. The Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia was expanded upon and renovated over the course of the 16th and 17th centuries, and thereafter was erected the octoganal bell tower that rises from the apse.

In this video you will be able to see what this hike is like, see what the trails are like and see the beautiful views and scenery. Once we arrived in Monterosso we spent the afternoon on the beach where we had the opportunity to cool off, do some snorkeling, and jump off a cliff a few times. If you're ever in Cinque Terre and you want to do some hiking I would definitely recommend this one. It is about 2.5 miles (4 km) and can be done in about 90 minutes. As you can see in my video it took me longer, but I have my reasons :) By no means would I say that this is an easy hike. The first mile to two miles is pretty steep, but not too bad. Flood in Vernazza
Video captured during the floods in Cinque Terre on October 25, 2011. My wife and I were staying at a rented apartment in the small town of Vernazza under the castle. The owner, Monica, who also owned the Ristorante Al Castello next to our apartment, opened her doors to everyone stranded and somehow prepared food for over 100 people without power and water. She was so generous and we are praying that she recovers from this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Monica and everyone in the town of Vernazza. -

TOP TRAVEL TIPS: *To get to Cinque Terre, we flew into Milan, and took a train from Milan to Monterosso al Mare, which travelled through Genoa. *The Cinque Terre hike is not easy, with several steep sections, but most somewhat fit people could probably do it. *The train which links the towns is very easy and convenient, and it only takes around 15 minutes to get from one end of Cinque Terre to the other (Manorola to Riomaggori, or visa versa) *I highly recommend staying in Monterosso. The town is the only one big enough to have anything to explore after the sun goes down. There is a west and east section of the town, with a beach, so there is plenty to do and see. ... -

Video captured during the floods in Cinque Terre on October 25, 2011. My wife and I were staying at a rented apartment in the small town of Vernazza under the castle. The owner, Monica, who also owned the Ristorante Al Castello next to our apartment, opened her doors to everyone stranded and somehow prepared food for over 100 people without power and water. She was so generous and we are praying that she recovers from this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Monica and everyone in the town of Vernazza.

Sono stato a Vernazza nelle Cinque Terre. Le strade erano bloccate e sono arrivato in barca grazie al passaggio di un amico. Dal mare non l'ho riconosciuta. La spiaggia è scomparsa e una nuova, fatta di fango e detriti, è nata improvvisamente. Le macchine, risucchiate fuori dai parcheggi, hanno attraversato le strade della cittadina. Impazzite, senza conducenti, guidate da una forza folle.Vernazza risorgerà meglio di prima. Lo spirito che ho visto negli occhi della sua gente dovrebbe diventare quello della nuova Italia.

TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*To get to Cinque Terre, we flew into Milan, and took a train from Milan to Monterosso al Mare, which travelled through Genoa.
*The Cinque Terre hike is not easy, with several steep sections, but most somewhat fit people could probably do it.
*The train which links the towns is very easy and convenient, and it only takes around 15 minutes to get from one end of Cinque Terre to the other (Manorola to Riomaggori, or visa versa)
*I highly recommend staying in Monterosso. The town is the only one big enough to have anything to explore after the sun goes down. There is a west and east section of the town, with a beach, so there is plenty to do and see.
*We wish we spent three nights so we could have spent more time in Monterosso, although each of the towns are individually incredible.
*Turin (Torino) is one of my favorite cities in Italy. There are no tourists other than Italians and the city is very clean, yet Turin has that ancient Italian feel. If your travels take you near Turin, go there!

The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" is composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Over the centuries, people have carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Part of its charm is the lack of visible corporate development. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages, and cars cannot reach them from the outside. The Cinque Terre area is a very popular tourist destination.
The villages of the Cinque Terre were severely affected by torrential rains which caused floods and mudslides on October 25, 2011. Nine people were confirmed killed by the floods, and damage to the villages, particularly Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare, was extensive.

*Overall, although Monterosso al Mare is not as photographic as the other towns, but Monterosso was our favorite town to explore as it was also the largest and the flattest, plus it was the only one with a an accessible beach.
