This is video #
012 in my playthrough of
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, part of the
Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 ReMIX. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: https://youtu.be/Bo11ewZqe-g
Previously, Roxas reached the
White Room in
Twilight Town's
Old Mansion, where poor Naminé got carted off by DiZ and "Ansem." He must now progress deeper into the Old Mansion.
He starts by returning to the
Mansion's Foyer (time 1:07). There, he takes the door on the eastern side of the upper level to the Mansion's
Library (time 2:53). At the central table, he uses the information from Naminé's
Sketches to complete the crest, and the way forward is revealed.
On the Library's lower level, a chest contains a Hi-Potion (time 3:53).
Then, he heads through the lower-level door to the
Computer Room (time 4:00). Even more memories come flooding back to poor Roxas. This triggers a series of flashback scenes (time 4:44). In them, DiZ partially explains why he was holding Roxas and Naminé.
When he comes back to himself, Roxas goes ballistic (time 6:43). However, it is not a total loss, as the door forward opens. There is a save
point in this room, and it is a very good idea to save before proceeding.
Roxas then proceeds into the next room,
the Basement Hall (time 8:28). When he arrives, he has to deal with Dusks and
Assassins.
In the next scene,
Axel puts in an appearance (time
10:12). Axel is pretty steamed up now. After the scene, it is time for a hot battle against Axel (time 10:53).
It's pretty fun since Roxas is dual-wielding Keyblades in this fight. When the floor is fiery, it will obviously damage Roxas. When Axel gets thrown into the air, Roxas can nail him
with the Overtaker and
Clear Light Reaction Commands. After Clear Light, the fire on the floor will be cleared briefly. When Axel goes beyond the flame circle, Roxas can react to his next attack with
Burst Frontier. Just watch out for some hot attacks.
At the end of the battle, Roxas will gain a bonus level and get a max HP increase (time 11:44). The ensuing scene will continue the flaskback to Roxas and Axel's conversation when Roxas left the
Organization (time 12:26). Aw, poor Axel. :'(
Then, Roxas and Axel will have a final scene (time 12:56).
Something tells me Axel has nothing to fear. (Especially having played
Kingdom Hearts 3D.)
Roxas regains control in the Basement Hall (time 13:24). There seems to be some manner of time-space anomaly in this room.
Roxas then heads southwest into the Basement
Corridor (time 14:13). As he arrives, he sees several of those strange pods
... and two are occupied! Here, he pops open the Mansion's final treasure chest to get a Hi-Potion (time 14:48).
Finally, Roxas goes through the northwest door into the Mansion's deepest chamber, the Pod Room (time 15:51). As he enters, he again encounters the man in red, who reveals why he wants
Sora revived but not why he wants Sora to do it. Roxas again goes ballistic, but it is pretty hard to hurt someone when all you have is a holographic projection.
The mystery man's projection then rematerializes beside the large pod (time 17:34). Then, with sad music, the pod opens, revealing the Keyblade wielder of Kingdom Hearts. On this sad note, Roxas's summer vacation is over.
Here is the true beginning of
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix.
At this point, the player earns the "
Summer's End" trophy for completing the prologue (time 18:46).
Next, we head to Twilight Town's
Central Station, where a familiar purple train is pulling in (time 19:00). When it has stopped, a figure with even more familiar ears disembarks!
In a brief scene, we see Roxas just once more (time 19:21). Then, Sora is awakened by two familiar voices! They have evidently been asleep for quite a while.
Unfortunately, when
Jiminy goes to check his journal, he finds only one phrase: Thank Naminé. Who the heck is that? However, Jiminy does have a solid suggestion.
Afterwards,
Donald and
Goofy get swapped into the party at last (time 21:24). Even better, we regain control of the cheerful Sora. Sora will inherit all the abilities, items, and munny that Roxas had.
Then, Sora and friends will automatically go out to the Old Mansion's exterior (time 23:05). It will be a long, looong time before they can go back into the mansion. I love Sora's Twilight Town theme.
Before leaving the Old Mansion grounds, they go back into the courtyard to pick up a Potion (time 24:01) and a Mythril Shard (time 24:14).
