Lower Saucon Township is a township in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. Lower Saucon Township is located in the Lehigh Valley region of the state, and geographically in the Saucon Valley.
The population of Lower Saucon Township was 9,884 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 24.3 square miles (62.9 km2), of which, 24.1 square miles (62.5 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km2) of it (0.62%) is water. The township is in the Delaware watershed and borders the Lehigh River to the north, which drains Lower Saucon except for the Leithsville area in the extreme south, which is drained by Cooks Creek east into the Delaware River.
North-to-south local thoroughfares include Route 378 in the extreme west, Route 412, and Lower Saucon Road in the east. Interstate 78 crosses Lower Saucon east-to-west with access from 412 at the Bethlehem/Hellertown line and Highway 33 in the northeast. Its villages include Bingen, Colesville (also in Lehigh County,) Leithsville, Lower Saucon, Redington, Seidersville, Shimersville, Steel City, Wassergass, and Wydnor.

Just after 23:00 hours Wednesday night, Lower Saucon 16 was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at the Yianni's Taverna Restaurant at Rt. 378 and Seidersville Road. Upon arriving, they found a working fire in the kitchen to the rear of the popular restaurant. The chief filled out the box for a full first alarm assignment. The fire eventually went to 2-alarms. The crews contained the fire to the kitchen and dining room area of the building.
On Thursday afternoon crews from Lower Saucon were dispatched to the 3700 Blk of Old Philadelphia Pk for a structure fire. First arriving crews encountered heavy fire and a 2nd then 3rd alarm were requested. Numerous lines were placed in service along with a tower ladder after the evacuation order was given. Crews battled the fire for several hours and more resources were special requested before bringing the fire under control, cold weather hampered some of the efforts and the fire is now unde investigation.
In the Early Afternoon Northampton County Radio Dispatched Station 18 to their Leithsville Station for a Motor Vehicle accident involving a dump truck and the Station. As first crews go responding they are updated to reports of a structural fire at the location. First arriving units confirmed a Dump Truck into the front of the structure with the building fully Involved. The fire would quickly intensify into a "Greater Alarm Equivalent" Job bringing in Engine, Truck and Tanker Trucks from all over Northampton, Bucks, and Lehigh County. Crews battled the fire for hours while members of the station looked on. Lower Saucon, Pa-- Multiple agency's working at a dwelling fire on Saucon Meadow Court in the township. Firefighters arrived to find a garage fully involved and working into the dwelling. Crews went to work on the garage and made entry but were forced out with a partial roof collapse and faulty hydrants. Firefighters reestablished water supply and went to work with multiple lines, ground monitors and ladder pipe operations. At 13:00 hours, a dump truck lost control and hit a car, pushing it into the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Station #61 located at 1995 Leithsville Road (Rt. 412) in Lower Saucon Twp. just south of the borough of Hellertown in Northampton County. The driver of the car was killed. Bystanders rushed to pull the truck driver out of the truck as the fire ignited. The truck driver managed to free himself and stumble out of the fire house. His arms were burned. The fire station and all the apparatus and gear inside was destroyed. The 3rd alarm fire plus 2 tanker task force brought in companies from three counties, including Lehigh and Bucks. To hamper firefighting efforts, a large lightning storm hit the fire scene and command ordered all firefighters into vehicles or the social quarters...
