I posted this as a comment on the video, but in case it gets lost in other comments:
Yes, the tree tag is from a Salvation Army tree. Yes, the Salvation Army has been linked to Anti-LGBT practices. And I just want to say that the Salvation Army definitely does NOT share my beliefs, and because of their beliefs, I don't give them money. I didn't go searching for a specifically Salvation Army tree. The truth is, there are four other trees I need to hit up before Christmas. I'm a sucker for a gift tree. And even though the Salvation Army is an organization which under-handedly preaches hate, I wanted to make sure this little boy had a gift for Christmas.

A charitable organization is a type of non-profit organization (NPO). It differs from other types of NPOs in that it centers on philanthropic goals (e.g. charitable, educational, religious, or other activities serving the public interest or common good).
The legal definition of charitable organization (and of Charity) varies according to the country and in some instances the region of the country in which the charitable organization operates. The regulation, tax treatment, and the way in which charity law affects charitable organizations also varies.
The definition of charity in Australia is derived through English common law, originally from the Charitable Uses Act 1601, and then through several centuries of case law based upon it. In 2002, the Federal Government establish an inquiry into the definition of a charity. That inquiry proposed that the government should legislate a definition of a charity, based on the principles developed through case law. This resulted in the Charities Bill 2003. The Bill incorporated a number of provisions, such as limitations on charities being involved in political campaigning, which many charities saw as an unwelcome departure from the case law. The government then appointed a Board of the Taxation inquiry to consult with charities on the Bill. As a result of widespread criticism from charities, the Government decided to abandon the Bill.

William Henry "Bill" Gates III (born October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington) is an American business magnate, computer programmer and philanthropist. Gates is the former chief executive officer (CEO) and current chairman of Microsoft, the world’s largest personal-computer software company he co-founded with Paul Allen. He is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people and was the wealthiest overall from 1995 to 2009, excluding 2008, when he was ranked third; in 2011 he was the wealthiest American and the second wealthiest person. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individual shareholder, with 6.4 percent of the common stock. He has also authored or co-authored several books.
Gates is one of the best-known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution. Gates has been criticized for his business tactics, which have been considered anti-competitive, an opinion which has in some cases been upheld by the courts. In the later stages of his career, Gates has pursued a number of philanthropic endeavors, donating large amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, established in 2000.

William Leonard Roberts II (born January 28, 1976), better known by his stage name Rick Ross (often stylized as RICK RO$$), is an American rapper. He derived his stage name from the drug trafficker "Freeway" Ricky Ross, to whom he has no connection. Ross founded the record label Maybach Music Group, on which he released his studio albums Deeper Than Rap and Teflon Don, Ross was also the first artist signed to Diddy's management company Ciroc Entertainment. In early 2012, MTV named Ross as the Hottest MC In The Game.
William Leonard Roberts II was born in Coahoma County, Mississippi. and raised in Carol City, Florida, near Miami. After graduating from Carol City Senior High School, he later attended the historically black college Albany State University on a football scholarship.
After being signed to Suave House Records, former label for rap duo 8Ball & MJG, he eventually signed a deal with Slip-n-Slide Records, which has been under the Def Jam umbrella since 2006. While signed to Slip-n-Slide, Ross toured with fellow rapper Trick Daddy and made guest performances on other Slip-n-Slide albums.

And I just want to say that the Salvation Army definitely does NOT share my beliefs, and because of their beliefs, I don't give them money. I didn't go searching for a specifically Salvation Army tree. The truth is, there are four other trees I need to hit up before Christmas. I'm a sucker for a gift tree. Yes, the tree tag is from a Salvation Army tree. Yes, the Salvation Army has been linked to Anti-LGBT practices. And I just want to say that the Salvation Army definitely does NOT share my beliefs, and because of their beliefs, I don't give them money. I didn't go searching for a specifically Salvation Army tree. The truth is, there are four other trees I need to hit up before Christmas. I'm a sucker for a gift tree. And even though the Salvation Army is an organization which under-handedly preaches hate, I wanted to make sure this little boy had a gift for Christmas.

This is probably a very effective scam. This is another "Fraternal Order of Police" soliciting donations for the families of cops tragically killed in the line of duty. Of course we want to support such a charity. I think this particular company is operating legally, but not all of them do. This charity gives a small percentage of the take to the actual charity, but it's more than they would have collected on their own, so everyone wins, right? Well, except us. We all get these calls all the time. Next time this charity is collecting for someone else, they'll call you. If your number is on their list, good luck getting rid of them. Of course we want to support such a charity. I think this particular company is operating legally, but not all of them do. This charity gives a small percentage of the take to the actual charity, but it's more than they would have collected on their own, so everyone wins, right?
Well, except us. We all get these calls all the time. Next time this charity is collecting for someone else, they'll call you. If your number is on their list, good luck getting rid of them.

* My robot manages to convince this operator that I am a qualified donor and then transfers me to the "records department" (to continue the cop theme)
* The "records department" operator knows I'm down for $10 - this can be easily done but it demonstrates more "computer telephony integration" than I expected.
* She is a professional and doesn't waste any words with my bot. It still manages to keep her busy for several minutes. It's not very entertaining unless you get these calls yourself all the time - then you'll cheer on my robot. Go robot! Waste as much time as you can!
So please keep sending these scammers and bad charities to my robot. I'm interested in the IRS scammers. It's tax season so I assume some of you are getting these! Let me know if you get one!

How could giving money to a poor family or helping clean-up a neighborhood do more harm than good? The unintended and harmful consequences of charity is the topic of Robert Lupton’s book, “Toxic Charity.” The CMC forum on Wednesday, February 3 will feature Lupton,
Michelle Heritage, CEO of the Community Shelter Board, Chad Jester, president of Nationwide Foundation and Fredericka Wallace-Deena, executive director of COMPASS. This forum is presented in partnership with Community Shelter Board.
“Bob presents some disruptive thinking in terms the way we all go about philanthropy –are we doing that in the most helpful way?” said Michelle Heritage. After hearing Lupton speak a few years ago at The Columbus Foundation, it was an “Hmmm, Oh!” moment for Heritage who began to look at charitable work differently. She shared, “What resonates the most for me is how we honor the dignity of the people who may be in need.” Summarizing Lupton’s thesis, she explains that “When giving is a one-way relationship, it can be harmful to the person receiving.”
Lupton questions the old model of charity such as dropping off toys for children at Christmas time or cleaning up trash and planting flowers in an economically depressed area. Although it may make the donor feel good about “giving to the poor,” it can be demeaning to the recipient because they realize their current inability to provide for themselves and their families. In these examples, a more respectful approach would be to include the parents in choosing gifts and involve the neighbors in planting donated flowers and picking up trash. In other words it’s about empowering others to take responsibility for their own neighborhoods and families to the extent that they are able.
Heritage explains that the Community Shelter Board, which is comprised of 19 providers that offer services to the homeless, has started the conversation about how to involve the people who need help in the plan that will lead them out of homelessness. Heritage emphasizes that the message should be that things can get better. “It’s about helping them make a lasting change in their lives by working with them, instead of giving them something,” she explains.
Heritage continues, “It’s the dignity piece. Help give people the opportunities and spaces to be successful themselves.” The Community Shelter Board has already found success with this new approach with greater numbers of people moving from shelters to homes and fewer returning to the shelters. Finally, Heritage says “They [the former homeless] say ‘I did this,” and they [assistance services] helped me out, not, they gave me. It’s just awesome!”
