Here's a real treat: a spoof of "What's My Line?" from a very rare Art Carney TV special originally aired on Dec 4, 1959 ("Very Important People"). Carney did a whole series of these specials from 1959 to 1961, but somehow they've been all but forgotten. No surprise how funny this sketch is: it was written by Sheldon Keller and legendary comedy writer Larry Gelbart (part of Sid Caesar's original writing team, later the creator of the TV series M*A*S*H and the "Oh God!" movie series starring George Burns).
Carney's take on John Charles Daly is absolutely spot on, as is Betty Garrett's Arlene Francis. And don't miss what she's wearing around her neck-- very funny! As great as SCTV's "What's My Shoe Size?" takeoff of WML was, this sketch is a whole lot closer in spirit to the real WML and its cast.
Features Dick Van Dyke (as Mystery Guest), Gloria Vanderbilt (as Dorothy Kilgallen) and David Doyle (as Bennett Cerf)

For the 1976 holiday season, a high production Christmas TV special was filmed on location in Disneyland, with stars Art Carney, Sandy Duncan and Glen Campbell, each playing a duel role. Art Carney played both a miserly grandfather and a jolly magician named Dr. Wunderbar. Sandy Duncan played a Disneyland tour guide and Snow White. Glen Campbell played a Disneyland cast member and Santa Claus. The show began as the Disney characters and the Kids of the Kingdom prepared the park for the holiday season as an unimpressed Gramps, with his two grand kids in tow, were preparing to leave. His plan was quickly thwarted by tour guide Sandy Duncan, who devised a plan to prevent him from leaving. She took the three guests to the underground laboratory of Dr. Wunderbar who offered Gramps a cash reward if he could resist being transformed from an unbeliever into a believer by midnight. Sandy then made the first attempt to warm his heart by showing him her miniature world, using green screen technology placing a miniaturized Sandy within the backdrop of It's a Small World. Then Glen Campbell invited Gramps to a down home hoedown in Bear Country with Big Al and the stars of the Country Bear Jamboree. The three visitors then encountered a depressed Santa, concerned with the lack of production in his toy making elves. The children recommended that Snow White offer the assistance of her Seven Dwarfs to add their numbers and speed up the assembly line. As night falls, Gramps and the kids pause for a moment in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle to reflect on what it would like to be older and younger, followed by a story by Gramps about Christmas Eve in the castle, shown as a dream sequence featuring the Disney characters and the Big Bad Wolf disguised as Santa Claus. Gramps was then challenged to "hear" the unbelievable as Glen Campbell showed him the singing geese and other animals of America Sings in a comical Christmas medley. As a final test, Gramps was then asked to make a wish, and if it could be made into a reality, then he must admit to being a believer. He wished for a snowfall on Main Street, and magically, Disneyland was turned into a frosted winter wonderland with real live snow! This iconic moment in Disneyland history was topped off with a romantic ice skating routine between Mickey and Minnie, a scene that is well remembered by many all these years later. The show concluded with highlights from the Candlelight Processional, and finally Gramps was transformed into a true believer.

For those who were curious, like me, I am proud to present the very original cut of The Nostalgia Critic's review of Last Action Hero in which he mistakenly refers to Robert Proski as Art Carney. If you look closely, there are also a few extra pieces of dialogue in this version.

Jackie Gleason and Art Carney star in a genre you probably have never seen them in before... a drama! Jerry Giles (Gleason) is a popular comedian with his own show performed live in Los Angeles. Bill Berkson (Carney) is a writer for Manhattan Magazine, sent to do a story about Jerry. Bill begins spending time with Jerry, both on and off screen, and meets up with Peggy (Rita Morely), an old flame. Peggy does not like Jerry, and Bill soon finds out why. Jerry isn't happy unless everyone likes him, so he uses his charm and star status to win people over, and give them the opportunities they desire. As the story progresses, Jerry gets on Bill's bad side and vice versa. All the while, Jerry's sister Belle (Marian Seldes) tries to keep Jerry honest, in an attempt to save him from future disappointment and hurt.
Gleason and Carney's acting is spot on. The story is rather simple, but the main character is very complex, making this quite an interesting show.
Studio One was a long time dramatic anthology series that first premiered on radio. It was sponsored by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. This episode was originally broadcasted in 1953, and was taped live before a studio audience.
Cast:
Jerry Giles - Jackie Gleason
Bill Berkson - Art Carney
Flo Stevens - Sally Gracie
Peggy Trent - Rita Morley
Belle Giles - Marian Seldes
