If you’ve ever eaten in Bangkok there’s a good chance your food came from here. It is said that half of the food eaten in Bangkok originates from here. It’s a fascinating place to explore when you visit Bangkok, with a huge range of fruit, vegetables, seafood and meat, as well as lots of Thai street food. There are also stores selling clothes and shoes, cooking equipment and kitchenware, catering goods and all other manner of Thai cooking ingredients. Officially the market is open from 06:00 - 02:00, but in reality it is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The best time to visit Klong Toey Market is early in the morning from about 4 am to 8 am. I got there at about 7:30am and by 9am things were already getting quieter. You’ll find Klong Toey Market on the corner of Ratchada and Rama IV roads. You can get the MRT underground train to either the Khlong Toey or Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre stations, and walk for about 5 -10 minutes to reach the market. The markets in Thailand are a great place to get an insight into Thai culture while you travel in Thailand. You can shop alongside the locals and learn what they buy and eat. And the markets are a great place to try Thai street foods, other traditional Thai cuisine, and learn Thai recipes and cooking, as well as eat some of the best Thai dishes in Thailand. You'll see the people cooking the food right in front of you. And best of all, the food is cheap, often much cheaper than eating in a Thai restaurant. Shopping and eating at markets is a good way to eat cheap on your Thailand holidays.
