Smith & Wollensky
Smith & Wollensky is the name of several high-end American steakhouses, with locations in New York, Philadelphia, Houston, Columbus, Las Vegas, Miami, Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C.. The first Smith and Wollensky steakhouse was founded in 1977 by Alan Stillman, best known for creating T.G.I. Friday's, and Ben Benson, in a distinctive building on 49th Street and 3rd Avenue (once occupied by Manny Wolf's Steakhouse). Many of the restaurants have a wooden exterior with its trademark green and white colors. The individual Smith and Wollensky restaurants operate using slightly varied menus. In 1997, Ruth Reichl, then-restaurant reviewer for the New York Times, called Smith & Wollensky "A steakhouse to end all arguments.".
In 2007, Nick Valenti, CEO of the Patina Restaurant Group and his partner Joachim Splichal, together with the Boston-based private equity firm Bunker Hill Capital, purchased The Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group.
Name
According to Stillman, there was never a Mr. Smith or a Mr. Wollensky involved. He opened the Manhattan phone book twice and randomly pulled out two names, Smith and Wollensky. The announcements for the opening, however, carried the names Charlie Smith and Ralph Wollensky. Stillman later admitted that Charlie and Ralph were the names of his dogs.

When it comes to the best steakhouse in New York City, everyone has their favorite go to spot. Some say Delmonico's in the Financial District, the oldest steakhouse in America and also the first ever fine dining restaurant in America, is the best steak in NYC. Others say it's Old Homestead Steakhouse, also one of the oldest steakhouses in NYC and one of the oldest steakhouses in America. Others more will say Keens Steakhouse is the best steak due to its history and its taste, while some others will say Peter Luger Steak House or Gallaghers Steakhouse are King of New York for steak.
One name though that consistently arises to the top of the list, however, is Smith & Wollensky. Smith and Wollensky is one of the newer iconic steakhouses in New York, being founded in 1977, which is much more recent than some other names mentioned above, some of which were founded in the 1800s. However, Smith & Wollensky has a very loyal following and the Smith & Wollensky NYC location is frequently mentioned on lists of the best steak in Manhattan and the best steak in New York City if not the best steak in America. The restaurant has become so popular it even opened several new locations including a Smith & Wollensky Las Vegas location! The Smith & Wollensky architecture alone is stunning, but we will be reviewing the famous Smith & Wollensky cajun ribeye steak and the Smith & Wollensky filet mignon to see if this steakhouse is all it's cracked up to be!

Smith & Wollensky
Smith & Wollensky is the name of several high-end American steakhouses, with locations in New York, Philadelphia, Houston, Columbus, Las Vegas, Miami, Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C.. The first Smith and Wollensky steakhouse was founded in 1977 by Alan Stillman, best known for creating T.G.I. Friday's, and Ben Benson, in a distinctive building on 49th Street and 3rd Avenue (once occupied by Manny Wolf's Steakhouse). Many of the restaurants have a wooden exterior with its trademark green and white colors. The individual Smith and Wollensky restaurants operate using slightly varied menus. In 1997, Ruth Reichl, then-restaurant reviewer for the New York Times, called Smith & Wollensky "A steakhouse to end all arguments.".
In 2007, Nick Valenti, CEO of the Patina Restaurant Group and his partner Joachim Splichal, together with the Boston-based private equity firm Bunker Hill Capital, purchased The Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group.
Name
According to Stillman, there was never a Mr. Smith or a Mr. Wollensky involved. He opened the Manhattan phone book twice and randomly pulled out two names, Smith and Wollensky. The announcements for the opening, however, carried the names Charlie Smith and Ralph Wollensky. Stillman later admitted that Charlie and Ralph were the names of his dogs.
