How and why does asylum politics bypass the rights of the asylum seeker? What does the proposal for new family reunion rules mean for refugees and Finns who want to bring their family to Finland or marry a foreigner? Jussi Förbom, the author of a book on the Finnish Immigration Service and Finnish asylum politics, gives the lecture.

Like most of the protest sites and projects alike, also the anti-nuclear protest camp at Pyhäjoki is used on getting its share of varying contacts. The camp email takes on the usual approaches of interested civilians, folks donating useful stuff or just people expressing their solidarity or support for the cause. From photos about solidarity actions in different corners of the continent to locals offering rain jackets – yes, we get that too.

Alongside and among these usual contacts are also the ones from interested medias: some more DIY- and comrade -based than others. The latest one we received from the British Isles, from the DIY-radio station Dissident Island Radio.

And this is the result of that session: a nice little nutshell of the history of anti-nuclear struggle at Pyhäjoki, the general energy political situation of Finland and, most of all, of the upcoming action week in April. The arrest of two Spanish puppeteers accused of “promoting terrorism” in a play reveals the violence of the state in a way that satire never could.

Farce and satire have been tools for criticizing authority figures since time immemorial, eroding their inflated social status, and bringing them back down to earth. But when the ruling class is limited only by their own courts and their own laws, they can surpass the cruelest farcical caricatures of unreasonable authority to make sure that when the curtain falls, no one is laughing.

The two puppeteers imprisoned for promoting terrorism in Spain last weekend might see the irony in their situation, but they are probably not smiling.

It's time for winter picnic against racism & fascism!

The Rajat kiinni (“Close the borders”) demonstration today 6.2. took up the recent uproar over pro-rape Roosh V to their own ends. The misogynist and pro-rape Roosh V failed in their efforts to initiate a worldwide meeting of his supporters. However, Rajat kiinni and the affiliated Soldiers of Odin anti-refugee street patrol group have tried to take advantage of this.
