Scalebound (スケイルバウンド, Sukeirubaundo) is an upcoming action role-playing video game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Microsoft Studios, currently scheduled for release in 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10. In this game, players assume control of Drew, who is accompanied by a dragon called Thuban. Players can use a variety of weapons to defeat enemies, and may issue commands to the dragon, which assists players during battles. Unlike other games developed by PlatinumGames, the game puts more focuses on graphical qualities and the role-playing aspect instead of action.
Scalebound is an action role-playing video game played in a third-person perspective, in which players assume control of Drew, as he progresses through the world of Draconis. Players are bonded to and accompanied by a dragon called Thuban, who can breathe out fire and assist players throughout the game. Thuban is controlled by artificial intelligence, but players can give commands to the dragon when performing attacks. The dragon can be ridden, though not in the beginning of the game, and its shape and appearance can be customized. Players can also upgrade its abilities by using the gems dropped by defeated enemies.
PlatinumGames Inc. (プラチナゲームズ株式会社, Purachina Gēmuzu Kabushiki Gaisha) is a Japanese video game development company. It was founded under the name Seeds, Inc. on August 1, 2006 by Shinji Mikami, Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya, former key members of Capcom's Clover Studio, and still retains many other members of the studio.
Clover Studio was responsible for many critically acclaimed titles such as Viewtiful Joe and Ōkami. In October 2006, the Capcom Board of Directors decided to shut down and succeed Clover Studio in March 2007, with all original Clover IPs, including Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami, and God Hand, remaining with Capcom.
The company merged with ODD Incorporated in October 2007. In May 2008, PlatinumGames announced a four-game deal with Sega. The games involved in the development and publishing deal included Bayonetta, a "stylish action game" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 directed by Hideki Kamiya and featuring "a witch battling angels", a science-fiction RPG for the Nintendo DS called Infinite Space, and MadWorld, an "ultra ultra violent" action game for the Wii with black and white Sin City-inspired graphics. The fourth title, Vanquish, directed by Shinji Mikami, was released October 19, 2010. Mikami has since announced his departure from PlatinumGames to form his own development studio, Tango Gameworks, that was subsequently acquired by ZeniMax Media. Atsushi Inaba stated that the "partnership has been great" and expressed his gratitude for allowing the company "maximum freedom" in development.

Now Scalebound has been cancelled, we feel the urge to play it even more keenly. Any game by Hideki Kamiya and Platinum Games is worth attention and Scalebound's blend of on-foot and on lizard combat looked an awful lot of fun. Here's why you should be sad Scalebound got canned. Subscribe! http://tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox The reasons Scalebound's cancellation is such a shame range from the mere fact that big budget games from Platinum are hard to come by to Xbox's meagre-looking line-up of exclusives for 2017. Hopefully both those things will be remedied in the not too distant future, but right now it's tough to see one of our most anticipated games of 2017 disappear down the tubes. Almost as tough as it is to see Kamiya being polite on Twitter. --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos a...
