Booting and running a commercially available distribution of CP/M from 1980 on an Altair 8800 Computer.
A profile on computer pioneer Gary Kildall and the important contributions he made to the PC industry including the true story on how IBM ended up using MS-DOS rather than CP/M. Kildall developed CP/M, the first personal computer operating system. He was also a co-host on the early Computer Chronicles series. About Computer Chronicles:
The Computer Chronicles was an American television series, broadcast during 1981-2002 on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) public television, which documented the rise of the personal computer from its infancy to the immense market at the turn of the 21st century. The series was created in the Fall of 1981, by Stewart Cheifet (later co-host), then the station manager of the College of San Mateo's KCSM-TV (which co-produced the show with Harrisburg, PA's WITF-TV), initially broadcast as a local weekly series. Jim Warren was its founding host for its 1981-1982 season. It aired continuously from 1981 to 2002 with Cheifet co-hosting most of its later seasons. A slew of CP/M, Osborne, Kaypro and Heath retro computing software and hardware. Any tips or additional info is appreciated!
The Heathkit / Zenith stuff is especially curious. I'm not sure what all it's actually for, system-wise. Possibly a H89/90.
Turns out the Kaypro is a 4/83 + 88 making it compatible with MS-DOS. I also got the floppy drive working.
There will be a proper and full-length review of these machines at some point.

Using the Indus GT's CP/M program ICDS.SYS, I copy a file between two floppies. The Indus loads much faster than the Atari drive running via SIO.
I then load WordStar 3.0, and proceed to open and scroll through a text file (which happens to be the HAL-3A driver for an even older word processor - Micro Pro WordMaster 1.07a from 1978!)

I had a few complaints on my last video that the text was unreadable. Frankly, I agree. Now I have a much better camera working, so I took another shot of it. The deal is the same as before. The system is turned on and I hit enter a few times and type 'b' to boot CP/M. The dots represent each 512-byte sector being loaded. The boot message is then displayed and then the CP/M prompt. From there, 'dir' gives a directory of the disk, which contains HHGG.COM and HHGG.DAT. I execute HHGG.COM and play the game for a bit. More information at http://kaput.retroarchive.org/Z80SBC.html

Kaypro 2: Copy a boot disk with CP/M 2.2
This video shows how to format a floppy disk in CP/M and how to make a copy of the boot disk to the formatted floppy disk. The Kaypro 2 has a Z80 processor with 64kb RAM and two full height single sided floppy drives for 160kb floppies. Notice the fading characters on the screen. -
Kaypro Robie - "Darth Vader's lunchbox" - very rare CP/M Computer from 1984
The Kaypro Robie was the only CP/M based Kaypro to be non-portable. Designed as a desktop computer, it had the same motherboard as the Kaypro 4. It was also equipped with two 2.6 MB high density floppy drives and a 300 Baud modem. The floppy drives were notorious for failing as they literally scraped the media off of the disk substrate, leaving many customers with drives which they could not read. -

Turns out the Kaypro is a 4/83 + 88 making it compatible with MS-DOS. I also got the floppy drive working.

The deal is the same as before. The system is turned on and I hit enter a few times and type 'b' to boot CP/M. The dots represent each 512-byte sector being loaded. The boot message is then displayed and then the CP/M prompt.
From there, 'dir' gives a directory of the disk, which contains HHGG.COM and HHGG.DAT. I execute HHGG.COM and play the game for a bit.

The number of people reporting being raped by someone they met on a dating app or website has risen six-fold in five years, official figures show. There were 184 rape allegations in 2014, up from 33 in 2009, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said. It said 85% of the rape victims were women and of these, 42% were aged 20 to 29 and 24% were between 40 and 49 ...
