YPDR aims to rebuild the reef system in the Visayan Sea which has been greatly damaged by both natural (typhoons) and man-made (illegal fishing practices and pollution) disasters. Our solutions include constructing marine domes which will serve as new homes to fish and other marine life, thus replenishing fish stocks, coral regeneration and a thriving ecosystem. Another solution is educating the community and local fishermen on proper fishing practices. Our long term goal for the program is to establish an effective system that will protect marine life from further destruction, and give the ocean its much deserved time and breathing space to recover and flourish once more.

During the Spanish colonial period they called it the Island of Fire (Isla del Fuego). Siquijor is commonly associated with mystic traditions, I did not buy the magic potions sold to tourists. You can take a ferry from multiple locations, it took me about 1.5 hours from Dumaguete Port.

Stop at Salagdoong Beach Resort for a seafood lunch. Adobo squid and fried calamari with rice. Beautiful beach side resort with restaurant and accommodation available. Many people go there just to enjoy the beach and try the big cliff jump, about 20 feet high.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask locals what it costs to your location. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from Jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

From Dumaguete Port I got a slow ferry, I recommend getting the Fast Jet ferry if possible to save time.
Arriving at Siquijor Island, I hired a multicab truck and driver to take me on a tour for PHP1500. This would be a great option for a group to share the cost, and plenty of space on the truck. Otherwise you can hire motorbikes and automatic scooters to drive around yourself.
Capilay Spring Park, natural spring park located in the middle of the town proper. Popular public pool with three chambers.

Siquijor Island tour continues:
Old Enchanted Balete Tree, is believed to be the oldest and the biggest in the province. The locals say it's apparently 400 years+ old. What is also unusual about this tree is the spring that emanates from the base of the tree and flows straight into a man-made pool. You can sit by the water and get a foot spa, where small fish clean dead skin from your feet. Recommend you wash your feet with soap or disinfect later just to be safe from infections.
The San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, commonly known as Lazi Church, is a Roman Catholic church in the municipality of Lazi. The present stone church was built in 1884 by Filipino artisans. The construction of the convent was made with coral stones and hardwood, commenced in 1887 and completed in 1891.
Cambugahay Falls, located 2 km north of the town of Lazi. Consists of cascading multi-tiered waterfalls, with fresh and clean warm water run-off, coming from natural springs, watersheds and small rain forests of the higher mountains. These waters then snake about 3 kms downstream, creating many beautiful swimming lagoons and little rapids along the way before it empties into Lazi Bay. The water was naturally blue and very refreshing.
While I was there it was very clean, even the air quality was noticeably fresh and cleaner. Please keep Siquijor clean and beautiful. Don't litter or throw trash, and keep your cigarette butts until you find a trash bag or can. I hope the local government keeps it this way, too much tourism could destroy the small island.

Siquijor is the third smallest province in the country, in terms of population as well as land area (after Camiguin and Batanes). For a time it was part of Negros Oriental.

See Coco Grove Beach Resort ferry schedule below. Ferry times can change regularly so I found Coco Grove's website schedule very helpful.
http://www.cocogrovebeachresort.com/getting-there
My tour continues with a drive around the Marina and some resorts around town.
Guiwanon Spring Park Resort, bahay kubos / nipa huts in the mangroves. Interesting walkways above the water.
I catch the ferry back to Dumaguete.
Rock Box Digital Restobar, Perdices Street, Dumaguete.
Catching up with some local friends and saying farewell.

Travel Philippines, Season 2, Ep38. Makati City, Metro Manila, popular CBD and tourist area. Plenty of shopping malls, restaurants, and nightlife. Many popular malls: Century City Mall, Greenbelt Mall (complex of 5 buildings), Glorietta and SM Makati. I have a really good conversation with my friendly taxi driver on the 2016 Philippines presidential election. Then visit Mang Inasal, marinated grilled chicken restaurant chain.

The airport taxi drama. This was the first time I had opportunists and scammers approach me so close to the genuine taxi rank. Usually they are across the road at the airport exit area, offering private cars or fake taxi's which charge PHP1000-2000+ (pesos). I ended up getting a fixed rate coupon taxi to save time and further frustration. Should have got a standard metered taxi. Foreigners will always be targeted by opportunists and hassled regularly for money, especially in bigger cities.
I end up having a really good conversation with my friendly taxi driver. The next presidential election in the Philippines is scheduled for May 2016. So candidates are already being discussed. There has also been much speculation on Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City running for president. Mayor Duterte is known for his successful administration of Davao City in Mindanao region. Davao is now the safest city in Philippines, and also ranked internationally as one of the safest in the world. Mayor Duterte has previously stated he is not running for president, but recent news suggests a possible change of mind.
Mang Inasal is known for its inasal na manok, marinated grilled chicken and other dishes. Corner or Jupiter, and Makati Ave, Metro Manila. It's a big chain brand so there are restaurants everywhere in Manila. There are more than 460 stores across the country. Great food, and catching up with local friends.

B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2015, Season 2, Episode 24. Travel vlog guide, tips, advice, food, and wanderlust. More info and links below. The City of Dapitan is a third-class city in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, on the island of Mindanao. It is historically significant as the place where José Rizal was exiled by the Spaniards for his revolutionary activities. He is considered a national hero, and this is known as the "Shrine City in the Philippines". The city is also home to Fantasyland, the first amusement park in the Visayas-Mindanao region.

Our group had a beach side dinner at Dakak Resort. Then we head to Gloria's Fantasyland amusement park. Plenty of fun rides and live entertainment. There was also beauty pageant queens who did a big night parade, Festival of Colors, and firework show. Out front at Gloria's, there was a beauty pageant, and live band at Gloria's, outside of Fantasyland. Plenty of beautiful Filipinas.
WARNING! I do NOT recommend Mindanao region for inexperienced, or solo foreign travellers. If you do go to Mindanao, travel with local Filipino's and stay in safe and well researched areas. Security has improved in recent years, but there are active criminal and terrorist groups in Mindanao.

Its common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite.

B Adventures Travel Series: Philippines 2015, Season 2, Episode 25.

Gloria de Dapitan, Fantasyland Amusement Park, and Dakak Park and Beach Resort are a group business.
http://fantasylandtours.com/
Gloria's Fantasyland amusement park, plenty of fun rides and live entertainment.
Security has improved in recent years, but can change very quickly. There are active criminal and terrorist groups in Mindanao, that target foreigners for kidnappings and attacks.
Travel Tips:

It is common for taxi drivers in Manila, and every other city, to try rip off or overcharge foreigners and tourists. This includes motorbikes, or pedicabs / trike taxi. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask local security and your hotel what it costs for transport to your destination.
