Part 1-The Wangara Benkadi Kurubi Festival 2013. Nana Ibrahim Alidu I, Wangara Ankobeahene was recently in Ghana for the cerebration of the Benkadi Kurubi Festival which took place from the 14th to 16th November 2013 at Kintampo the spiritual home of the Wangaras. The Benkadi Kurubi Festival is a cerebration by the Wangaras in honour of their ancestors (indigenes of the Bambaras/Madingo and Djula) who migrated from the ancient kingdoms of Mali and Songhai. It is an event where people particularly the youth learn about their traditional values, the history of their devoted people (past and present) and the virtue of virginity. It also serves as the time of merry-making, entertainment through drumming, singing and dancing. The occasion brings togetherness (families. colleagues and friends) and an avenue of meeting future spouses. The climax of the 2013 cerebration was the grand durbar on Saturday 16th November at the Kintampo Presbyterian Park. On the morning of this day Wangaras across the country (including those who had arrived two days earlier at Kintampo and newly arrivals) gathered at the palace of Nana Fanyinama III the Paramount Chief (The Wangara Wura) to pay homage to him and other sub-chiefs. Later the crowd amid drumming, singing and dancing led Nana Fanyinama III, other sub-chiefs and invited dignitaries to the durbar grounds.
