Community support

Community Support is provided by volunteers working in the Melbourne area. The service runs in partnership with the Royal District Nursing Service.

To use this service, you must be living with HIV, on a limited income and have an identified need for support.

To access the following services, you will need to be referred by your doctor, nurse or social worker

History

The Community Support program began in 1984. At the height of the HIV epidemic, over 1000 volunteers worked in teams to care for critically ill people in their homes. With new treatments improving the health of people living with HIV, Community Support has adapted to help people meet new challenges such as social isolation, treatment side effects and occasional illness.
