Revisioning

Violence happens across all communities, social classes, ages, cultural backgrounds and geographical areas. Society is generally much less aware of the reality of same-sex domestic abuse than of abuse within heterosexual relationships, this can make it harder for men experiencing domestic abuse to have their situation taken seriously and to ask for and receive help.

Men's behaviour change programs have existed within the general community for some time. Groups associated with this program aim to work with men who use violence in their relationships.

ReVisioning is part of that program. It is a unique group that is being offered exclusively to gay and bisexual men who are finding their anger, frustration or violence to be impacting on their relationships with their partners, family, friends or work colleagues.

By offering these groups to gay men, we aim to address issues of violence and dysfunctional patterns of behaviour. The group encourages effective communication and strategies to deal with conflict. It also provides the opportunity to reflect on their relationships and to explore ways to handle conflict successfully.

  • ReVisioning will provide a group for you to:
  • Learn about breaking patterns of violent, abusive or controlling behaviours
  • Safely explore power and control in your relationships
  • Raise your awareness of the effects your behaviours have on yourself and the people you care about
  • Gain new information and receive support so you are then able to challenge yourself to take more responsibility for your behaviours
  • Build your confidence, self-esteem and self-control
  • Learn to employ strategies to deal with conflicts and difficult emotions in your relationships and other parts of your life without the use of abusive and/or controlling behaviours

The program is available to both gay and bisexual men who want to change their behaviour and are ready to make a commitment to the program.
