Galore. These are two words for our competitors this week. The Hyundai Elite i20 and the VW Polo. VW actually means people mover which is not really what it is in India at least. In fact, the real people mover in this country after Maruti is Hyundai. Exteriors : If you compare the cars neck to neck on the exterior it is a tough call. While some might like the top design of the Elite, the others might like the simple and classy looking VW Polo. Interiors : Now you step inside and again the battle continues. Both cars are so different and yet offer such a nice cabin. The Elite i20 will impress you with the layout, the features, the buttons and the gadgetry. Then the Polo on the other hand will dazzle you with its minimalistic yet practical approach. The cabin of the Polo comes in beige and black with silver accents. The cabin of the Elite is black and beige as well and comes with very soothing blue illumination. Both cars have Bluetooth, steering mounted controls, USB player, AUX in player, CD player, MP3 player and radio. Key less entry, auto air-con and all four power windows. However, the Elite has much more from a cool glove box to an auto day night mirror, two cabin illumination controls, rear parking sensor but with camera and angles. Now this definitely is a cool car. On the other hand what the Polo can post of in comparison is for an edit voice command service on the top variant. The rear seats of the Elite i20 offers much more space than the Polo. But then again we throw in a few interesting facts about both. Ride and Handling : The Polo versus the Elite. Polo is so enthusiastic that it tempts you to go faster. While Elite i20 so calm that it makes you forget the world. The former so energetic that every corner no matter how tight or how close seems like a job to easy. While the latter so grounded that it snuggles you in comfort even in fast speeds. The Polo comes with a 1.5 liter diesel unit. The Elite comes with a 1.4 liter. The Polo has a power output of 90 PS and so does the Elite i20. The Polo has a torque of 230 Nm and the Elite here fall short by just 10 Nm. The Polo comes with 5 gears while the Elite comes with 6. So close yet both these cars are very different on the road. The Polo's 1.5 liter unit is quick and peppy with precise steering and very impressive driving dynamics. The drawbacks are the slightly heavy clutch. The Elite on the other hand is laid back. Steering response is not as great as the Polo but its good enough to root confidence. The cabin of the Elite is also quite tough than that of the Polo. Rear seat comfort and the suspension set up is better in the Elite too. While VW suspension is not too hard any more but when you sit in the Elite, its like the car breezes over bumps. Verdict : Overall if we were to give titles to sum up this comparison VW polo is the driver’s delight while the Elite i20 is the family’s delight. Chose wisely because this is a tough call.
