The F-14 Tomcat was designed as both an air superiority fighter and a long-range naval interceptor. The F-14 has a two-seat cockpit with a bubble canopy that affords all-round visibility. It features variable geometry wings that swing automatically during flight. For high-speed intercept, they are swept back and they swing forward for lower speed flight. RUDOLF WINTER CAME BACK TO WESTON PARK AGAIN THIS YEAR ALL THE WAY FROM GERMANY WITH HIS INCREDIBLE F-14 (WORKING) SWING WING TOMCAT,

RUDOLF SENT THIS INFO OVER ON THE MODEL -
My F14 is an early Fly Eagly Jet ARF Kit. It is the standard (non honey comb) one. I heavily modified it and reinforced a lot of areas. For example on the first load test prior to the mods the swing wing pivot broke out of the wing... I had to open both wings and put new spars in them... engines are Frank Raptor with 20kg thrust each. Take of weight including fuel is 37kg
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR THE WINGS AS THEY SWEEP BACK IN FLIGHT FOR SUPER SONIC FLIGHT AND FORWARD AGAIN FOR SLOW FLYING AND LANDING,
ALSO A NICE TOUCH ARE THE AFTER BURNER RINGS LIGHTING UP ON TAKE OFF AND VERTICAL FLIGHT, (THESE ARE EXTREMELY BRIGHT LEDS FORMING A CIRCLE AROUND THE EXHAST DUCTS)

Kara Spears Hultgreen (5 October 1965 – 25 October 1994), was a Lieutenant and Naval Aviator in the United States Navy and the first female carrier-based fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy. She died just months after she was certified for combat, when her F-14 Tomcat crashed into the sea on final approach to USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72).

United States military aircraft designation systems
The United States Military Aircraft Designation System was first designed in 1919 when the US Army's Aeronautical Division became the United States Army Air Service. Before this aircraft were put into service under their manufacturers' designations.
History
United States Army Air Service 1919 to 1924
During this period Type Designations used by the United States Army Air Service were allotted, using two or three letters, which were an abbreviation of the aircraft's purpose. Examples include GA for Ground Attack aircraft; NO for Night Observation aircraft and NBS for Night Bombardment, Short Distance aircraft.
Army aviation 1924 to 1962
From 1924 to 1947 the Air Service, United States Army Air Corps, United States Army Air Forces and United States Air Force used a designation system based on mission category, with each model in a category numbered sequentially. In 1947, the designation system was extensively overhauled, with several categories being dispensed with, and others renamed For instance, the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star (Pursuit) was redesignated as F-80 (Fighter), while the A-26 medium bomber/attack aircraft was redesignated as the B-26, reusing the designation, the Martin B-26 having retired in the meantime.

My F14 is an early Fly Eagly Jet ARF Kit. It is the standard (non honey comb) one. I heavily modified it and reinforced a lot of areas. For example on the first load test prior to the mods the swing wing pivot broke out of the wing... I had to open both wings and put new spars in them... engines are Frank Raptor with 20kg thrust each. Take of weight including fuel is 37kg
