Crusoe is a 1989 film directed by Caleb Deschanel. It is a variation on the story told in the novel Robinson Crusoe, written by author Daniel Defoe. The film stars Aidan Quinn as Crusoe.
Tidewater, Virginia 1808. The story begins at sea with the main protagonist, Crusoe (Aidan Quinn), en route to Africa to retrieve slaves. His ship runs into a powerful storm, and the entire crew perishes except for Crusoe. He eventually makes his way to a tropical island, where he is alone and stranded until he discovers that a dog and a small flock of geese have also survived. He befriends the dog, and gains a close ally. He initially encounters many challenges, but eventually manages to make himself at ease on the island. Later he finds a rifle inside the shipwreck, and, weapon in hand and dog by his side, begins exploring the island. After spending more time on the island, Crusoe stumbles upon a group of tribesmen who are indigenous to the area but not the island. He finds, to his horror, that they are cannibals.

Read more about Crusoe's recovery so far here: http://www.celebritydachshund.com/2016/09/06/post-op-update-4-weeks/ At 4 weeks, this is how Crusoe is walking and moving around now, following a variety of therapy and rehabilitation, including electro-acupuncture, laser therapy, exercises and stretches, cavaletti poles, water treadmill, and more. IVDD is a big problem with dachshund so hopefully if there's any silver lining to Crusoe going through this surgery, is that it'll show some good options for recovery to other pups out there.
On my way to making Laffie and all my fans proud... Crusoe underwent back surgery 10 days ago for IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) to remove an exploded disc pushing against his spinal cord. He's been working hard ever since on his rehabilitation and getting better.
Shipwrecked and cast ashore onto an uninhabited island, Robinson Crusoe ingeniously carves out a solitary, primitive existence for 24 years. Eventually, he meets a young native whom he saves from death at the hands of cannibals. He calls him Man Friday and makes him his companion and servant.
