5) King Bhumibol of Thailand
Bhumibol has been King since 1950, 11 years after the country changed its name from Siam to Thailand.
He is the longest serving monarch in Asia and is so popular among his people that in 2009 when a rumor spread that his health has declined, it even caused a shock to the nation's financial markets.
He owns all the land in Thailand, estimated to be about 128 million acres, including the tourist coast line and large economically strong cities.
4) King Mohammed VI of Morocco
Mohammed is the first major proponent of democracy in the the history of a monarchy that dates back to the year 1036.
His ownership of Morocco's land and his inherited fortune have led to estimates of his entire wealth being around $2 billion.
He has roughly 175.6 million acres under his belt, and the location is a historic key point of trading between Europe and Africa.
3) Pope Francis
When a new pope comes along he owns the land the Catholic Church owns.
The 110 acres that makes up Vatican City may not seem like a lot of land because it isn't, but the Catholic Church also own around 177 million acres of various land across the globe.
This includes embassies that are legally titled as an independent nations.
2) King Salman of Saudi Arabia
Owning Saudi Arabia is definitely land that would make you filthy rich because underneath is precious oil.
Following the recent death King Abdullah on 23rd January 2015, his half brother Salman took over as King of Saudi Arabia.
Therefore also taking control of the 547 million acres of oil rich land and a very rich country that has a GDP at roughly $618 billion.
1) Queen Elizabeth II
No surprise that the Queen of England is the biggest land owner in the world but not just by a small margin.
She is by far the biggest landowner.
With a kingdom that includes Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia and a few more places here and there, she has about 6.6 billion acres of land.
That's 12 times the size of King Salman of Saudi Arabia.

A civil altercation on a byway in Hindon, Wiltshire (HIND15, The Dene, ST905325).
The byway has been blocked every time that I have ridden or walked it. It's wide enough to allow a cycle, motorbike or a horse through but not a car or horse and carriage. Having said that, the metal container has a sharp edge and I wouldn't risk riding a horse past it.
The landowner is adamant that the right of way is a footpath. I know full well that it is not and suggests that he either remove me himself or make a note of my registration number and report me for riding on a footpath. He quickly backed down when I mentioned Environmental Health/The Environment Agency!
What do you make of it?

A civil altercation with a landowner at Little Shurdington near Cheltenham.
This road has been signed on the ground as a bridleway for a number of years despite being marked as an unclassified road (ORPA) on the various OS maps that I have access to, along with the rights of way map on the Gloucestershire County Council website.
A conversation on 08.10.13 with KP from Gloucestershire County Council's rights of way department confirmed that:
1. The right of way is incorrectly signed as a bridleway.
2. The right of way is a mixture of class 5 & 6 highway.
KP explained that class 5 highway is maintained to a basic standard for use by wheeled vehicles, and could be found at either end of the right of way.
Class 6 highway compromises the middle section of the right of way and crosses open farmland on a semi-defined track. KP explained that this was usually maintained to pedestrian standards, unmettled (unpaved) and is usually 'unsuitable for wheeled vehicles'.
This particular stretch of class 6 highway is too narrow for anything other than pedestrian, horse, cycle and motorcycle. It connects Little Shurdington to Cold Slad.
The landowner had blocked our path and we were both ready to turn back when an unexpected change of heart allowed us to proceed.

An altercation with David Masters at Lower Clapton Farm, Yarlington near Wincanton in Somerset.
David's grandmother Marlene is an enthusiastic anti-rights of way campaigner who helps people remove rights of way from their land. She fought for years to have a former RUPP removed from her land only for Somerset County Council reclassify the RoW as a BOAT. Her fight ended in the Royal Courts of Justice where her appeal against the definition of a Byway Open to All Traffic was dismissed - a fight which saw her literally 'bet the farm' using her own money.
The Judgement became an important part of RoW case law and is often just referred to as the 'Masters Case'.
Much can be read about Marlene Masters' fight by simply searching Google for her name, with various byways and bridleways associations publishing a lot about her during the late 1990s. A gentleman once told me that she was convicted of assault for pulling an elderly lady from her horse outside the farm though I cannot find anything to substantiate this.
This footage was shot in its entirety from the public right of way which passes through his family's property. As you can see (you'll need the sound right up if you want to hear!) he is angry enough to swear at and (try to) intimidate legal right of way users. The family also featured in the 1997 C4 documentary 'Countryside Undercover: Dangerous Walks' which sadly cannot yet be found online.

Land tenure
Land tenure is the name given, particularly in common law systems, to the legal regime in which land is owned by an individual, who is said to "hold" the land (the French verb "tenir" means "to hold"; "tenant" is the present participle of "tenir"). The sovereign monarch, known as The Crown, held land in its own right. All private owners are either its tenants or sub-tenants. The term "tenure" is used to signify the relationship between tenant and lord, not the relationship between tenant and land.
Over history, many different forms of land ownership, i.e., ways of owning land, have been established.
A landholder/landowner is a holder of the estate in land with considerable rights of ownership or, simply put, an owner of land.
Feudal tenure
Historically in the system of feudalism, the lords who received land directly from the Crown were called tenants-in-chief. They doled out portions of their land to lesser tenants in exchange for services, who in turn divided it among even lesser tenants. This process—that of granting subordinate tenancies—is known as subinfeudation. In this way, all individuals except the monarch were said to hold the land "of" someone else.

Plot: The setting is an old age home run by an aging director with an authoritarian hand. In the evening many of the residents huddle in a living room, penetrated by the October cold, to listen to the news. The announcement is giving the number of expected deaths due too the coming harsh winter. In the middle of the night a truckload of coffins arrives to be stored. Dicovering the coffins the elderly assume they are marked for liquidation and they flee en masse. The next day their exodus is dicovered and the director calls the authorities. It turned out that the coffins were the overproduction from a coffin factory and were brought only for temporary storage. The panic search for the pensioners begins, including helicopters. In the meantime the group gets transported to another part of the country by a truck. They take over by a near-empty restaurant, where after mistreatment by a waiter, they tie him up and move on. A lone fisherman invites them into his house where, after initial differences of opinion, they fraternize with a group of hippies. That is where the police corners them up.

Biker vs Landowner
A civil altercation on a byway in Hindon, Wiltshire (HIND15, The Dene, ST905325). The byway has been blocked every time that I have ridden or walked it. It's wide enough to allow a cycle, motorbike or a horse through but not a car or horse and carriage. Having said that, the metal container has a sharp edge and I wouldn't risk riding a horse past it. The landowner is adamant that the right of way is a footpath. I know full well that it is not and suggests that he either remove me himself or make a note of my registration number and report me for riding on a footpath. He quickly backed down when I mentioned Environmental Health/The Environment Agency! What do you make of it? Note: The tractor (B364 FFL) is uninsured at the time of publishing this video. 14.10.12.

This road has been signed on the ground as a bridleway for a number of years despite being marked as an unclassified road (ORPA) on the various OS maps that I have access to, along with the rights of way map on the Gloucestershire County Council website. A conversation on 08.10.13 with KP from Gloucestershire County Council's rights of way department confirmed that: 1. The right of way is incorrectly signed as a bridleway. 2. The right of way is a mixture of class 5 & 6 highway. An altercation with David Masters at Lower Clapton Farm, Yarlington near Wincanton in Somerset.
David's grandmother Marlene is an enthusiastic anti-rights of way campaigner who helps people remove rights of way from their land. She fought for years to have a former RUPP removed from her land only for Somerset County Council reclassify the RoW as a BOAT. Her fight ended in the Royal Courts of Justice where her appeal against the definition of a Byway Open to All Traffic was dismissed - a fight which saw her literally 'bet the farm' using her own money.
The Judgement became an important part of RoW case law and is often just referred to as the 'Masters Case'.
Much can be read about Marlene Masters' fight by simply searching Google for her name, with various byways and bridleways associations publishing a lot about her during the late 1990s. A gentleman once told me that she was convicted of assault for pulling an elderly lady from her horse outside the farm though I cannot find anything to substantiate this.
This footage was shot in its entirety from the public right of way which passes through his family's property. As you can see (you'll need the sound right up if you want to hear!) he is angry enough to swear at and (try to) intimidate legal right of way users. The family also featured in the 1997 C4 documentary 'Countryside Undercover: Dangerous Walks' which sadly cannot yet be found online.
