Suisun Bay (/səˈsuːn/ suh-SOON) is a shallow tidal estuary in northern California. It lies at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers, forming the entrance to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, an inverted river delta. Suisun Marsh, the tidal marsh land to the north, is the largest marsh in California. Grizzly Bay forms a northern extension of Suisun Bay. The bay is directly north of Contra Costa County.
The bay was named in 1811, after the Suisunes, a Native American tribe of the area. The word originates with the Patwin.
On the west, Suisun Bay is drained by the Carquinez Strait, which connects to San Pablo Bay, a northern extension of San Francisco Bay. In addition to the major bridges at the Carquinez Strait, it is spanned in its center by the Benicia-Martinez Bridge and at its eastern end by the State Route 160 crossing (Antioch Bridge) between Antioch and Oakley.
It is the anchorage of the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet, a collection of U.S. Navy and merchant reserve ships, which was created in the period following World War II. The Glomar Explorer was anchored here after recovering a sunken Soviet submarine in the mid-1970s (see Project Azorian). Many ships were removed and sold for scrap in the 1990s, but 80 ships remain, including (until 2012) the World War II battleship USS Iowa (BB-61). In 2010, plans were announced to remove the mothball fleet in stages, with final removal by 2017.
A reserve fleet is a collection of naval vessels of all types that are fully equipped for service but are not currently needed, and thus partially or fully decommissioned. A reserve fleet is informally said to be "in mothballs" or "mothballed"; an equivalent expression in unofficial modern U.S. naval usage is "ghost fleet". In earlier times, and especially in British usage, these ships were said to be laid up in ordinary.
Such ships are held in reserve against a time when it may be necessary to call them back into service, and they are usually tied up in backwater areas near naval bases or shipyards to speed the reactivation process. They may be modified, for instance by having rust-prone areas sealed off or wrapped in plastic or, in the case of sailing warships, the masts removed. While being held in the reserve fleet, ships typically have a minimal crew (known informally as a skeleton crew) to ensure that they stay in somewhat usable condition. If for nothing else, their bilge pumps need to be run regularly to reduce corrosion of their steel and to prevent the ships from foundering at their moorings.
San Francisco (/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the only consolidated city-county in California. San Francisco encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state. It has a density of about 18,187 people per square mile (7,022 people per km2), making it the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City. San Francisco is the fourth-most populous city in California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, and the 13th-most populous city in the United States—with a Census-estimated 2014 population of 852,469. The city and its surrounding areas are known as the San Francisco Bay Area, and are a part of the larger OMB designated San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland combined statistical area, the fifth most populous in the nation with an estimated population of 8.6 million.
The Sacramento Northern Railway (reporting mark SN) was an 183-mile (295 km) electric interurban railway that connectected Chico in northern California with Oakland via the California capital, Sacramento. In its operation it ran directly on the streets of Oakland, Sacramento, Yuba City, Chico, and Woodland and ran passenger service until 1941 and freight service into the 1960s.
A train simulator (also railroad simulator or railway simulator) is a computer based simulation of rail transport operations. They are generally large complicated software packages modeling a 3D virtual reality world, with 'play mode' software which lets the user interact by stepping inside the virtual world. Some, like the first Microsoft Train Simulator are written and modeled for the user mainly interested in driving.
Like flight simulators, train simulators have been produced for railway training purposes. Driver simulators include those produced by:
An aerial tour of the Reserve Fleet in Suisun Bay from 1992 when there were still rows and rows of old military ships and some civilian. As of December 2015 there were less than a dozen left.
Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet Jan. 2017. Before this is a thing of the past I had to get some footage for history. I have grow up seeing the fleet of ship's there to now only a few left. The reserve fleet storage can be seen in the northern portion of San Francisco Bay, CA. Only a small portion of vessels currently remain with the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet. "In January 2016, the Department of Transportation and MARAD have officially announced the fleet closure in February 2017. All remaining ships will be sold at auction or scrapped." On the morning of August 16th 2008, The World War 2 era Liberty Ship S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien left Pier 45 in San Francisco,California and headed toward the National Defense Reserve Fleet at Suisun Bay,California. Also known as the "Mothball Fleet" or "Ghost Fleet". Most of the ships that make up the fleet are World War 2 era through the early 1980's. The main attraction being The Battleship USS Iowa (BB 61).I wanted to show the public that rarely gets to see battleship up close. I also wanted Navy Veterans to see the status of their ship. I'm posting links that are related to USS Iowa. http://www.ussiowa.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Iowa_(BB-61) http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ships/battleships/iowa/bb61-ia.html http://www.ussiowa.com/ http://www.battleship.org/inde...

Over the weekend some people were filming the Art and Wine Festival at Suisun City: http://www.visitsuisuncity.com/event/art-wine-chocolate-festival Something went wrong and the drone they were using lost a rotor and wound up in about 10-12' of water with no visibility.

Stock shots of completed bridge; informative narration; explanative illustrations illuminate bridges dimensions and other structural aspects of design." Reupload of a previously uploaded film, in one piece instead of multiple parts. Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons...
