Palm, Inc. was an American company that specialized in manufacturing personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other electronics. It was the designer of the Palm Pilot, the first PDA successfully marketed worldwide, as well as the Treo 600, one of the first smartphones. Palm developed several versions of Palm OS for PDAs and smartphones. The company was also responsible for the first versions of webOS, the first multitasking operating system for smartphones, and enyo.js, a framework for HTML5 apps.
WebOS has been supported by HP, LG and the open source community. LG uses it for Smart TVs and smartwatches; Enyo is used by LG, Openbravo and many others to design iOS, Android, Windows 8, and webOS apps.
In October 2014, HP sold the Palm trademark to a shelf corporation tied to the Chinese electronics firm TCL Corporation. Shortly afterward, TCL confirmed its plans to revive the Palm brand on future, crowdsourced smartphones.
Palm, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, was responsible for numerous products including the Pre and Pixi as well as the Treo and Centro smartphones. Previous product lines include the Pilot 1000, PalmPilot Pro, Palm III, Palm V, Palm VII, Zire and Tungsten. While their older devices run Palm OS Garnet, four editions of the Treo run Windows Mobile.
The PalmPilot Personal and PalmPilot Professional are the second generation of Palm PDA devices produced by Palm Inc (then a subsidiary of U.S. Robotics). These devices were launched on March 10, 1997.
Palm also sold the 10201U modem at 14.4 kbit/s, introduced at a price of $129 (this modem is also compatible with the Palm III and Palm IIIx devices). An upgrade kit was also available, which allowed users of the earlier Pilot 1000/5000 devices to upgrade the OS, ROM, and RAM to match the PalmPilot Professional. Initially suggested retail prices upon launch were $399 for the PalmPilot Professional (1MB), $299 for the PalmPilot Personal (512KB), and $199 for the Upgrade Kit. Upgrade kits were also available to existing registered Pilot users for $99 for a limited time after the launch. These kits included IR capability, a new plastic memory door to accommodate the IR diodes, a memory card with 1 MB, the new ROM for Palm OS 2.0, and a CD-ROM with updated desktop software.
We look back at the Palm Pre, which was ahead of its time when it launched in 2009. Unfortunately, it never really caught on. Never thought I'd actually get my hands one one of these. A definite piece of smartphone history. One mistake I made in the video: HP did not acquire Palm until April 2010. They promptly discontinued all Palm hardware a year later. webOS lives on in some LG smart TVs, though. Check out the GFY Media Group: https://goo.gl/IH03bN

So, I got a boxed Palm Treo last week. It's a pretty neat little thing, and I felt like I needed to make a video about it. It's a lot longer than it needed to be, and has lots of unnecessary video editing. Go you if you actually watch this whole video.
http://gamexcess.net Maniac reviews the Palm VIIx, the PDA that he took across the entire country from 2000-2001, and which has many of the same features that today's SmartPhones now use. It uses Palm OS 3.5 and was the last model Palm released before moving to the M series, which used Palm OS 4 and had a new form-factor. Does it still work after 13 years?

Palm OS is a mobile operating system initially developed by Palm, Inc., for personal digital assistants in 1996. Palm OS was designed for ease of use with a touchscreen-based graphical user interface. It is provided with a suite of basic applications for personal information management. Later versions of the OS have been extended to support smartphones. Several other licensees have manufactured devices powered by Palm OS. Following Palm's purchase of the Palm trademark, the currently licensed version from ACCESS was renamed Garnet OS. In 2007, ACCESS introduced the successor to Garnet OS, called Access Linux Platform and in 2009, the main licensee of Palm OS, Palm, Inc., switched from Palm OS to webOS for their forthcoming devices. On this episode of Time Travel, we will be taking a look at the Palm m515. Back before the age of iPhones and the cloud, the Palm Pilot was one of the many devices that kept your digital life in sync on the go. It allowed you to create things such as calender events and notes, and then sync them with a PC back at home. The m515 was one of the most advanced and top of the line models of the Palm Pilot in 2002. While most of the main features on the Palm Pilot are taken for grated today, devices like these where still able to be very successful in keeping people's digital life in sync on the go. ========================================== More on Palm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm,_Inc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_m500_series ========================================== Follow Me: Twi...
