I really have no idea because the culprits could be any of many suspects. The
Iranians or
Syrian govt agents could have framed
ISIL to get Putin more involved on their side.
Iran has been known to conduct terror operations abroad in
Thailand,
Panama,
Argentina,
Bulgaria and elsewhere. Could be them to enrage
Russians to attack
ISIS. Could be ISIS as they claim or a loyalist Islamist group like the
Muslim Brotherhood. It could be rogue elements of
Egyptian intelligence or it could be the Russians themselves or the
CIA or
Mossad.
Or it could just be technical failure. From what I hear and read -- the airliner had a bad safety record.
One thing I do know -- tourism makes up about 15-20% of
Egypt's economy & tourism revenues have fallen from 260 million UK pounds in
2011 to
10 million pounds UK in 2014 so the
Egyptian economy is hurting bad from the fall off in tourism numbers. The tourist count is down
I've read over 75% since the
Arab Spring started.
The UK and
Russia have suspended flights to
Sharm El Shaikh where this occurred so its hurting Egypt, badly economically.
Somehow given the blow to tourism I just can't see Egypt being behind it, they have too much to lose.
Rogue elements of the CIA -- that I can believe. The dictator/president of Egypt El-Sisi has improved ties with Putin while hurting his ties with the
USA so it could be a move to push Russia away from Egypt or vice versa.
Either way sadly the only people who really suffer are the victims of the crash and their families and the average
Egyptian on the street who works in the tourism business who can't pay his bills.
Egypt is a nation of70 million people. That's a lot of mouths to feed considering they don't grow or produce much of anything and have high levels of poverty.
If it was ISIS there was a missile that was shot @ an UK airliner a few weeks back. If terrorists in the
Sinai have shoulder fired
Russian SA2s/
MANPADS or US stinger anti-aircraft missiles -- they probably got it from
Qaddafi's stash in
Libya.
Sad -- I hope it turns out to be structural failure, I hope the
Egyptians can get their economy moving again.
