July 18th 2013. Massive debris flow / flash flood in Southern Utah. Close to 3" of rain fell north of my location and I filmed these shots 6+ hours after the fact.

HOUSTON - New video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a driver making a fatal mistake Monday morning on South Post Oak Blvd. near the Westpark Tollway.
The video shows the driver, identified as Claudia Melgar, of a white Dodge Durango drive into at least 30 feet of flood water. Minutes after the video a toll road worker tries to chase after the vehicle, even jumping into the water to save the driver.
"What happened was truly unfortunate. There was a barrier in place," Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said. "We are going to work with TxDOT and the city. I'm going to take ownership of this. We've got to make it safe."
Family members of the 25-year-old were terrified Tuesday that the body found inside the Durango may be hers. Melgar was last seen at 3 a.m. Monday at a local nightclub and has not been heard from since 6 that morning.
"She was in the Westheimer area and she was in a white, Dodge Durango. She texted her mother telling her she was on her way home, and we have not heard anything from her since then. We are very, very scared," Linda Rodriguez, Claudia's cousin, said.
The Medical Examiner's Officer confirmed the identity of Melgar on Wednesday morning.
Channel 2 Investigates has also obtained video of another flood victim, 43-year-old Teri Rodriguez, a mother of three children, the moment she drove her vehicle into a drainage ditch at 1807 Briar Creek Boulevard. She drowned at the scene.
The families of two victims, Rodriguez and Suresh Talluri, have set up GoFundMe accounts to help pay for expenses related to their deaths.
The National Weather Service released a video showing how quickly a situation turns deadly in flood-related incidents. It takes just 12 inches of flowing water to carry off a small car; and 18 to 24 inches for larger vehicles.
More than half of the deaths from flooding each year occur in vehicles.

A post-Game 4 video of Draymond Green dressed down a reporter for getting about halfway through some weird question that appeared to link the flooding in Houston with Golden State's team performance (news flash, it's also embedded above). Green revealed that the off-camera journalist had repeatedly posed the question, and therefore theorized that he was trying to get him to say something controversial. Now, according to Bay Area newsman Henry Wofford, we've learned that that reporter was canned almost immediately after the clumsy exchange.

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.
It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.
I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park.

So this is the biggest disaster Michael has ever caused. My mom had just flown in and wanted to see the kids before they went to bed. We were out, about to grab something at the grocery store, so we came back home to see Papa and Nanny first. We had just sat down on the couch to hear about my mom's trip when i asked where Michael was (it was awfully quiet). A few moments later, I heard this sound but couldn't quite pinpoint the sound. I wondered if Michael was in his favorite place (sarcastic)...the bathroom. I started realizing it sounded like water being poured or sprayed, so we ran to the bathroom. Water was literally POURING from the toilet. Talk about a mess. We don't even know how Michael plugged the toilet in order to get it to overflow like that, but we think one of the twins left a pair of undies on the floor when he had gone to the bathroom and michael tried to flush them along with a bunch of toilet paper. The toilet still isn't quite working right so we will be removing it and investigating further this weekend...
It's tricky because the other little kids in the house have trouble remembering to shut the bathroom door behind them, then Michael can get into the bathroom. Toilet locks also aren't an option because when the twins have to use the bathroom, they usually wait till the last minute, so they have an accident if they have to wait. So for now, we just have to be more diligent about keeping the bathroom door shut when Michael is not in his play area.

A flood is an overflow of an expanse of water that submerges land. The European Union (EU) Floods Directive defines a flood as a covering by water of land not normally covered by water. In the sense of "flowing water", the word may also be applied to the inflow of the tide. Flooding may result from the volume of water within a body of water, such as a river or lake, which overflows or breaks levees, with the result that some of the water escapes its usual boundaries.
While the size of a lake or other body of water will vary with seasonal changes in precipitation and snow melt, it is not a significant flood unless such escapes of water endanger land areas used by man like a village, city or other inhabited area.
Floods can also occur in rivers, when flow exceeds the capacity of the river channel, particularly at bends or meanders. Floods often cause damage to homes and businesses if they are placed in natural flood plains of rivers. While flood damage can be virtually eliminated by moving away from rivers and other bodies of water, since time out of mind, people have lived and worked by the water to seek sustenance and capitalize on the gains of cheap and easy travel and commerce by being near water. That humans continue to inhabit areas threatened by flood damage is evidence that the perceived value of living near the water exceeds the cost of repeated periodic flooding.

Matthew Todd "Matt" Lauer (born December 30, 1957) is an American television journalist best known as the host of NBC's The Today Show since 1997. He was previously a news anchor in New York City and a local talk-show host in Boston, Philadelphia, Providence and Richmond. He was also host of PM Magazine (or "Evening Magazine" 1980-1986) and worked for ESPN in the 1980s as a sideline reporter. In the early 1990s, Lauer hosted segments of HBO Entertainment News.
He was born in New York City, the son of Marilyn Kolmer, a boutique owner, and Jay Robert Lauer, a bicycle-company executive. Lauer is of Romanian descent on his father's side, as seen on the Today Show's Finding Our Roots. His parents divorced during his youth, and his father died in 1997. Lauer had become co-host of The Today Show replacing longtime host Bryant Gumbel in early 1997, not long before his father's death. In 1999, both Lauer and his co-host Katie Couric initially resisted participation in Today's proposed series about their family roots. The series turned out to be a hit, and Lauer was moved by what he learned about his immigrant ancestors. "My dad was Jewish. My mom is not. So I was not raised anything. I do feel a desire now to find something spiritual. Getting married and wanting to have kids has something to do with that."

So this is the biggest disaster Michael has ever caused. My mom had just flown in and wanted to see the kids before they went to bed. We were out, about to grab something at the grocery store, so we came back home to see Papa and Nanny first. We had just sat down on the couch to hear about my mom's trip when i asked where Michael was (it was awfully quiet). A few moments later, I heard this sound but couldn't quite pinpoint the sound. I wondered if Michael was in his favorite place (sarcastic)...the bathroom. I started realizing it sounded like water being poured or sprayed, so we ran to the bathroom. Water was literally POURING from the toilet. Talk about a mess. We don't even know how Michael plugged the toilet in order to get it to overflow like that, but we think one of the twins left a pair of undies on the floor when he had gone to the bathroom and michael tried to flush them along with a bunch of toilet paper. The toilet still isn't quite working right so we will be removing it and investigating further this weekend... It's tricky because the other little kids in the house have trouble remembering to shut the bathroom door behind them, then Michael can get into the bathroom. Toilet locks also aren't an option because when the twins have to use the bathroom, they usually wait till the last minute, so they have an accident if they have to wait. So for now, we just have to be more diligent about keeping the bathroom door shut when Michael is not in his play area. Please click "like!" HOUSTON - New video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a driver making a fatal mistake Monday morning on South Post Oak Blvd. near the Westpark Tollway. The video shows the driver, identified as Claudia Melgar, of a white Dodge Durango drive into at least 30 feet of flood water. Minutes after the video a toll road worker tries to chase after the vehicle, even jumping into the water to save the driver. "What happened was truly unfortunate. There was a barrier in place," Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said. "We are going to work with TxDOT and the city. I'm going to take ownership of this. We've got to make it safe." Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane. It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane. HOUSTON - New video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a driver making a fatal mistake Monday morning on South Post Oak Blvd. near the Westpark Tollway.
The video shows the driver, identified as Claudia Melgar, of a white Dodge Durango drive into at least 30 feet of flood water. Minutes after the video a toll road worker tries to chase after the vehicle, even jumping into the water to save the driver.
"What happened was truly unfortunate. There was a barrier in place," Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said. "We are going to work with TxDOT and the city. I'm going to take ownership of this. We've got to make it safe."
Family members of the 25-year-old were terrified Tuesday that the body found inside the Durango may be hers. Melgar was last seen at 3 a.m. Monday at a local nightclub and has not been heard from since 6 that morning.
"She was in the Westheimer area and she was in a white, Dodge Durango. She texted her mother telling her she was on her way home, and we have not heard anything from her since then. We are very, very scared," Linda Rodriguez, Claudia's cousin, said.
The Medical Examiner's Officer confirmed the identity of Melgar on Wednesday morning.
Channel 2 Investigates has also obtained video of another flood victim, 43-year-old Teri Rodriguez, a mother of three children, the moment she drove her vehicle into a drainage ditch at 1807 Briar Creek Boulevard. She drowned at the scene.
The families of two victims, Rodriguez and Suresh Talluri, have set up GoFundMe accounts to help pay for expenses related to their deaths.
The National Weather Service released a video showing how quickly a situation turns deadly in flood-related incidents. It takes just 12 inches of flowing water to carry off a small car; and 18 to 24 inches for larger vehicles.
More than half of the deaths from flooding each year occur in vehicles.

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.
It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.
I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park.

So this is the biggest disaster Michael has ever caused. My mom had just flown in and wanted to see the kids before they went to bed. We were out, about to grab something at the grocery store, so we came back home to see Papa and Nanny first. We had just sat down on the couch to hear about my mom's trip when i asked where Michael was (it was awfully quiet). A few moments later, I heard this sound but couldn't quite pinpoint the sound. I wondered if Michael was in his favorite place (sarcastic)...the bathroom. I started realizing it sounded like water being poured or sprayed, so we ran to the bathroom. Water was literally POURING from the toilet. Talk about a mess. We don't even know how Michael plugged the toilet in order to get it to overflow like that, but we think one of the twins left a pair of undies on the floor when he had gone to the bathroom and michael tried to flush them along with a bunch of toilet paper. The toilet still isn't quite working right so we will be removing it and investigating further this weekend...
It's tricky because the other little kids in the house have trouble remembering to shut the bathroom door behind them, then Michael can get into the bathroom. Toilet locks also aren't an option because when the twins have to use the bathroom, they usually wait till the last minute, so they have an accident if they have to wait. So for now, we just have to be more diligent about keeping the bathroom door shut when Michael is not in his play area.

After several days of heavy rain on already saturated ground, the River Aire (like many rivers in Northern England) broke its banks in several places in Leeds city centre (as well as elsewhere). This film was taken from a walk beginning at 15:40 next to Leeds Railway Station on Princes Square and ending just shortly after 18:20 on East Street (A61).
The film features views of the River Aire at full flow and in flood: at Leeds Station Southern Entrance; from Victoria Bridge; from behind Asda House; on Meadow Lane; on Water Lane; at Bridge End; from Leeds Bridge; from Riverside Court; from Centenary Bridge; at Brewery Place; along Dock Street; from behind Oracle; from Crown Point Bridge; along East Street; through Turlow Court; and most dramatically at the junction of East Street (A61) and Marsh Lane.
At 11:50 there is a barge which has become wedged under a balcony / walkway, lifting the balcony / walkway above it. This is just under Centenary Bridge, opposite Oracle Bar.

According to the Environment Agency, the River Aire went on to reach 2.93 metres at Crown Point at 23:30. It's typical height is between 0.53 and 1.35 metres.

A Texas woman and her four young grandchildren, ages 6, 7, 8 and 9, were killed early Saturday morning when a nearby creek flooded over causing a deadly flood through their small town. A neighbor found the bodies of two children in their front yard near the street, and authorities found two more children and their grandmother, 64, inside. According to Palestine Police officials, calls started coming in at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday morning and that floods were rising to roof level in some neighborhoods. A temporary shelter has been established in a local mall for those who were displaced by the floods. -

President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the wreck of the six-storey building on Sunday, where 10 people perished after concrete floors collapsed down on top of each other during torrential rainstorms on Friday.
The two-year-old building, home to more than over 150 families, had been condemned by building authorities but the order had been ignored.
"Ten bodies have been recovered, and we have 80 people who have been treated and discharged from hospital," interior minister Joseph Nkaissery told reporters amid the wreckage of the building.
Seven other people died in floods elsewhere in Nairobi, including four killed when a wall collapsed.
"There is a lady in the building and her child who are alive, and all efforts are being made to rescue them, as well as other people still believed to be in the building," Nkaissery said.
But access for rescuers with larger machinery has been made difficult by the narrow and crowded streets.One survivor was pulled from the huge pile of debris shortly after dawn, Kenya Red Cross said, some 10 hours after the building collapsed last night.
Pictures broadcast by local media showed soldiers, policemen and civilians searching through the rubble.
Kenyatta "braved the rainy and chilly weather" to visit densely-populated and poor Huruma neighbourhood, a statement from the presidency said.
He ordered police "take immediate action to identify and arrest owners of buildings who have ignored directives by the National Construction Authority", it said

It has also issued a flash flood watch extending from Texas into western Tennessee.
"Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected today into this evening across the lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, Ozarks and the Ohio Valley," it said on Saturday.
There were seven reported tornadoes from the storm system on Friday in Texas and Oklahoma, it said.
A twister caused damage to several structures in Ninnekah, southwest of Oklahoma City, local news reports said.

The Somerset Levels are one of the most beautiful parts of Britain, but in the winter of 2013 they faced a natural disaster.
One village, Moorland, was entirely engulfed by the floods. Deluged by water, the villagers watched helplessly as their lives and homes were washed away. This programme follows their year-long struggle to get home again after the water drained and media attention shifted away.
Although the residents put on a brave face, the realities of their fate pile up - the refusal of insurance companies to pay up, and the months of delay with the builders. All this adds fuel to a heartfelt frustration that the floods were man-made and the nagging fear of what would happen to them if and when the waters return.

Illinois' governor has declared disasters in seven counties as hundreds of homes face a rare winter flood being blamed for at least 20 deaths.
Though the Mississippi River and its tributaries didn't top the 19 vulnerable levees that federal officials were monitoring, the dangers from a rare winter flood remained throughout Missouri and parts of Illinois on Wednesday.
Swollen rivers and streams pushed to near-record heights, which a day before caused an unknown number of inmates to be transferred out of an Illinois state prison and prompted a disaster declaration by Illinois' governor in seven counties and the activation of the National Guard by Missouri's governor to help divert traffic from submerged roads.
A surge of water not seen since the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 is forecast in coming days to test the enormous levees lining the Mississippi River on its course through the Deep South, adding another element of danger to a region already raked by deadly tornadoes and thunderstorms.
Mississippi's and Louisiana's governors issued flood warnings Thursday and declared states of emergency. Authorities along the swollen waterway in both states are warning nearby residents to brace for the possibility of any flooding. River boat casinos in Mississippi are closing and levee managers are readying sand bags and supplies – and the manpower to build the defenses – to fight the rising river along hundreds of levees in both states where the river crosses en route to the Gulf of Mexico.

Mozambique is regularly affected by serious floods. In 2000 and 2001, more than 700 people died. However, when the floods came again in 2007 and 2008, the death toll was much lower. This is mainly due to the disaster preparedness efforts carried out by the Mozambique Red Cross Society and other partners. This film shows how the Red Cross network of community-based trained volunteers are ready to raise the alarm in villages as soon as the water level starts to rise and help affected people to move to higher ground. It also clearly shows the importance of investing in disaster preparedness to limit the effects of natural disasters such as floods.
