Translation brought to you by Mor So:
interviewer: Janne Wirman, how is it like to be a member of
Children of Bodom at the summer 2014
Janne: Well, I guess it's the best possible thing to do with your pants on
Janne: It's interesting how I only realised after turning 30, well, that was five years ago, but anyways, I realised how cool it is to play in a band for a living, it's pretty cool.
interviewer: So when you get older you start to appreciate it more and you start feeling yourself even lucky?
Janne: ye-yes, I kind of feel that when I turned 30, I maturised a lot in short time, or at least that's what I'm saying to everyone
Janne: So you learn to appreciate when you see all the young bands today.
It's hard getting anywhere when records don't sell and music bussines is shit in general. So somehow you appreciate that when we were young band, we got lucky and got a change to go tour around the world and that kind of stuff
interviewer: You've had many great moments with
COB BOAT Let's wait that he finishes, then we'll continue
interviewer: So it's been about a year since the release of
Halo of Blood, after that you've played great ammount of gigs and everyone's probably familiar with the newer songs too. So these gigs where you're not promoting a new
album, are these just easy going gigs that you enjoy?
Janne: well
.. Actually yes, festivals are sometimes- beginning of festival is sometimes little hard, no soundcheck and you start from nothing.
Stage technics aren't correct and you have loan equipment. sometimes the festival gig isn't enjoyment, but when it goes well it's total enjoyment. We just got lucky at the tuska (festival) week ago since from the beginning everyone had a great time, so that's what we're aiming for
interviewer: So that's something you can't train and it just happens?
Janne: That's it, how many gigs we have played this year? hundred? no not quite, but anyways, we just had a world tour, so we've played in about 20 countries this year, and it really doesn't prepare you for the festival, when the first song starts the situation can start falling in either direction, but of course, professionals have to handle it so it's going to right direction.
interviewer: you're recognized from tilting your keyboard in a funny way like they're in front of you. Where does this originate from?
Janne:
I've confessed this many times before, I have copied it straigth from
Jens Johansson, and when I saw
Jens for the first time live I started wondering 'what's this thing' then I tried it myself and it's pretty genius. If you're playing keyboard standing up you have to bend your wrist from here, and it really affects your playing. And when keyboard is like this, your whole hand is straight. And this is like, I mean, playing is just fucking easier. And it's interesting how many people haven't realised it.
interviewer: well, what happens when COB will some time play concert hall tour and they bring you that concert grand, how is that going to be organized?
Janne: Well, I've played it so much at
Pop/jazz conservatory when I was yonger, so it really isn't that weird object. But maybe to that-
interviewer: setting it upwards might be-
Janne: no no no, I was going to specify that it really makes playing easier when it's about quick metal and fast things, then it's a lot easier when your hand is straight. But of course traditional grand is different thing.
