Walk and see the neon lights, restaurants, beer houses, and singing rooms of
Jongno on a Monday night! ^^
In the beginning of the video,
Marie and I had a random subscriber encounter with
Henry and
Leslie! Henry had commented on a previous video that him and his wife were going to visit
Seoul during this time, and I replied back that we are in the area often since Marie's office is near their hotel. I said that maybe we'd run into each other on the streets of Seoul! AND WE DID. ^_^
It was very random, and turns out we have a lot in common.
They live in
Washington, DC and I lived there for 6 years. They frequent many
Korean restaurants and marts in the
Annandale and
Fairfax, Virginia area, just like I used to when I lived in
Arlington.
They are very nice and it was good to meet them in person, and include them in the intro to this video! ^_^
So, this neighborhood's official name is Gwancheol-dong (관철동), in Jongno (종로). It is closest to
Jonggak Station (종각역), so many visitors refer to it as "Jonggak." But
Koreans call it "Jongno."
When Koreans say "
Let's go to Jongno for drinks!" everyone knows they mean this specific neighborhood near Jonggak Station, even though Jongno is huge and has many other places in it.
This area is famous for all their neon and
LED signs, many
BBQ, chicken, Korean, and
Japanese restaurants, as well as many karaoke rooms and other forms of entertainment.
There are many tall business buildings nearby, with major corporations like Hanhwa,
SK Telecom, KT, and many more! So many corporations are clustered around one area!
The people who go to this area are mostly businessmen and women who work in the same company, but you can also see groups of young people here and there having fun as well.
After work, these officer workers get together to let loose for dinner and drinks.
It's a custom for Korean office workers to eat dinner together, and then hop from one place to another.
They refer to it as "il-cha" (1차 = 1st round), "i-cha" (2차 = 2nd round), "sam-cha" (3차 = 3rd round), and so forth. It's essentially "bar hopping" from place to place, and usually involves lots of food, drinking, more food, and karaoke.
To get to this area, take
Line 1 to Jonggak Station, walk out of
Exit 4. Walk straight out of Exit 4 and turn right at
Dunkin Donuts. That puts you right into the heart of this neon heaven of drinking and eating. ^_^
Thank you for watching, we really appreciate the support!
