RF connector
RF connector
A coaxial RF connector is an electrical connector designed to work at radio frequencies in the multi-megahertz range. RF connectors are typically used with coaxial cables and are designed to maintain the shielding that the coaxial design offers. Better models also minimize the change in transmission line impedance at the connection. Mechanically, they provide a fastening mechanism and springs for a low ohmic electric contact while sparing the gold surface, thus allowing above 1000 reconnects and reducing the insertion force. Research activity in the area of radio-frequency circuit design has surged in the 2000s in direct response to the enormous market demand for inexpensive, high-data-rate wireless transceivers. Standard Types 7/16 DIN connector, a high-power 50 Ω connector originally developed by Spinner Belling Lee connector, also called IEC 169-2 connector or antenna plug, used throughout Europe and some other countries for domestic television installations and as FM connector for radio BMA connector, also known as OSP (Omni Spectra push-on) BNC connector (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) C connector (Concelman) Dezifix connector, hermaphrodite connector used mainly by Rohde & Schwarz DIN 1.0/2.3, a 75 Ω connector F connector, used for domestic television installations and domestic satellite LNBs (75 Ω) world wide. GR connector (General Radio) Motorola connector, standard AM/FM antenna connector used for automotive radios Musa connector, a 50 Ω connector used in telecommunications and broadcast video N connector (Neill) NMO mount connector (new Motorola mount), for removable mobile antennas. Large threaded base for durability in wind. SC connector, screw version of C connector TNC connector (threaded Neill-Concelman) Twin-lead UHF connector (e.g., PL-259/SO-239). Raspberry Pi Automated Cat Treat Feeder - Part 1 - Machine
My first Raspberry Pi project - an automated cat treat dispenser with a remote control web site and motion-sensitive webcam pictures. See part 2 for the web site and webcam features: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YRif_jTa8I The main components are: Super Feeder pet feeding machines (great company) - http://super-feeder.com/ Raspberry Pi - http://www.raspberrypi.org/ Raspberry Pi camera - http://www.adafruit.com/products/1367 Raspberry Pi breadboard PCB - http://www.adafruit.com/products/1148 n-channel MOSFET, diode, optocoupler, wires, mini-din socket, micro-usb cable, and some passive components Lessons learned: 1) I needed both 12V and 5V DC power for this project. I had an old laptop power supply that provide both, so I used that. Unfortunately, this thing uses some strange mini-din connector which doesn't make a very secure connection. If I had it to do over again, I would use an unregulated 12V adapter connected with a simple 2.1mm barrel connector and add a small switching DC-DC 5V buck converter to my circuit board. 2) I chose Python for my application, because that seemed to be what is popular with the Raspberry Pi community. It's a fine language, but not really my cup of tea. Two major complaints with it: a) it doesn't actually validate code until it executes it. This makes finding and fixing obvious syntactical problems a pain. b) I really don't like the syntax, in particular having to prefix member variables and methods with "self.", the use of space to control block definition, etc. 3) I created the web server by extending the SimpleHTTPServer classes. Turns out this is single-threaded, and that crates some very noticeable lag in loading even my simple web page. If I was still using Python, I would consider using Twisted ( http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ ) 4) When selecting parts that will be exposed via a hole in your enclosure, prefer parts that require a round hole. It is simple to drill a hole, not so simple to cut a rectangular hole (unless you have access to a laser cutter).- published: 25 Aug 2013
