The Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP is physically almost the same as the previous sibling model - The Saffire Pro 24, the only hardware difference being an extra headphone input over the standard model Pro 24. However the real star features of the Pro 24 come from the added software functionality that the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) has added to this already popular Firewire Audio interface ... So having established that the only physical difference on the Pro 24 DSP is an additional headphone input let's move straight on to the DSP features, firstly Focusrite have added something called VRM (Virtual Room Monitoring) - this will be a godsend for all those of you who are forced to mix down your latest musical masterpiece on headphones... VRM emulates a variety of speaker characteristics AND it also emulates different room scenarios, in fact Focusrite offer 100 differnt monitoring scenarios including different brands of monitor, different rooms sizes and different listening positions ... However, there are a few more tricks up the sleeve of the Pro 24 DSP aside from the VRM functionality, for example there's also DSP-powered Compression and EQ with all of the appropriate adjustment parameters and along with this you have the addition of "Comfort Reverb" which is DSP generated reverb that can be added to enhance the tracking and mixing process. We've already mentioned two headphone inputs with individually adjustable volume controls, there's also front panel 5 LED metering for at-a-glance sound level monitoring. Digital to analogue conversion is 24 Bit/96Khz sample rate as is the Analogue to Digital path and the unit can be powered either by its own A/C adapter or else can draw power from the Firewire bus. The Saffire Pro DSP comes with a host of included software goodies featuring the Focusrite VST/AU Plug-In Suite, the Xcite+ Software bundle that include Ableton Live Lite 8.0 along with oodles of royalty free loops and samples. As with all of the Focusrite audio interfaces this unit has zero latency monitoring and additionally comes with Saffire Mix Control capability ... I cannot stress highly enough what a superbly engineered and easily affordable piece of equipment this is, the lay-out is completely intuitive, all controls are clearly marked and easy to use plus the VRM functionality will be a fantastic asset for those late night mix sessions where you can't mix on speakers due to monitoring volumes scaring the neighbours. Scarlett 2i2 & Saffire 6 Test
Hi everyone! I received several emails in regards to the Scarlett & Saffire series from Focusrite. This is only an audio test of the pre's in each unit. My results were close compared to both units. Both units have a little color tone to them but for recording applications on a budget and price range of both, you can't go wrong with either one. On singing vocals we used the Blue Spark mic, on the talking vocals we used the AKG C3000B and on guitar we recorded line-in. Anyways this was just a quick test of both interfaces and I would like to thank G.Vernon Burrell & Tyger Hanley for their help with this test. So having established that the only physical difference on the Pro 24 DSP is an additional headphone input let's move straight on to the DSP features, firstly Focusrite have added something called VRM (Virtual Room Monitoring) - this will be a godsend for all those of you who are forced to mix down your latest musical masterpiece on headphones... VRM emulates a variety of speaker characteristics AND it also emulates different room scenarios, in fact Focusrite offer 100 differnt monitoring scenarios including different brands of monitor, different rooms sizes and different listening positions ...
However, there are a few more tricks up the sleeve of the Pro 24 DSP aside from the VRM functionality, for example there's also DSP-powered Compression and EQ with all of the appropriate adjustment parameters and along with this you have the addition of "Comfort Reverb" which is DSP generated reverb that can be added to enhance the tracking and mixing process. We've already mentioned two headphone inputs with individually adjustable volume controls, there's also front panel 5 LED metering for at-a-glance sound level monitoring.
Digital to analogue conversion is 24 Bit/96Khz sample rate as is the Analogue to Digital path and the unit can be powered either by its own A/C adapter or else can draw power from the Firewire bus. The Saffire Pro DSP comes with a host of included software goodies featuring the Focusrite VST/AU Plug-In Suite, the Xcite+ Software bundle that include Ableton Live Lite 8.0 along with oodles of royalty free loops and samples. As with all of the Focusrite audio interfaces this unit has zero latency monitoring and additionally comes with Saffire Mix Control capability ...
I cannot stress highly enough what a superbly engineered and easily affordable piece of equipment this is, the lay-out is completely intuitive, all controls are clearly marked and easy to use plus the VRM functionality will be a fantastic asset for those late night mix sessions where you can't mix on speakers due to monitoring volumes scaring the neighbours. Hi everyone! I received several emails in regards to the Scarlett & Saffire series from Focusrite. This is only an audio test of the pre's in each unit. My results were close compared to both units. Both units have a little color tone to them but for recording applications on a budget and price range of both, you can't go wrong with either one. On singing vocals we used the Blue Spark mic, on the talking vocals we used the AKG C3000B and on guitar we recorded line-in. Anyways this was just a quick test of both interfaces and I would like to thank G.Vernon Burrell & Tyger Hanley for their help with this test.

The Saffire PRO 26 is part of Focusrite’s family of professional studio-quality Firewire/Thunderbolt compatible* audio interfaces, with full 24-bit/96kHz conversion and four award-winning Focusrite mic preamps with phantom power. The best-sounding interface in its class, Saffire PRO 26 was designed with both studio recording and live musicians in mind, offering extensive input and output capabilities for maximum flexibility.
Twenty-five years of mic preamp excellence form the foundation of the Saffire PRO 26 interface. The four preamps, along with the very latest in mix control software and interfacing technology, combine to deliver seamless integration, excellent routing flexibility and rock-solid driver stability.
At the heart of Saffire PRO 26 lie four award-winning Focusrite preamps. These allow unparalleled recording flexibility and ensure low noise and distortion with plenty of headroom to capture the full dynamic range of even the loudest drumkit or guitar amp. Precision digital conversion and JetPLL™ jitter-elimination technology maintain pristine audio quality in both analog and digital domains.
Inputs 1 and 2 are available both as mic-level rear-panel XLRs and as front-panel TRS (1/4 inch) sockets at line or instrument levels, and include 8dB pads. Inputs 3 and 4 appear on the rear panel as combo XLR (mic)/TRS (line) sockets. There are two additional rear-panel TRS line inputs, making a total of six analog inputs, for which 5-segment LED metering is provided.
The PRO 26 includes S/PDIF I/O, and an optical digital input that can be configured either as S/PDIF or as ADAT format, the latter allowing expansion of the interface with, for example, Focusrite’s OctoPre MkII, for a total of 14 analog inputs. Saffire PRO 26 also features two virtual Loopback inputs, for routing digital audio between software applications — ideal for capturing online audio.
On the output side, dual headphone outputs, six line outputs on TRS jacks, and S/PDIF coax are provided. Main monitor controls, including volume, dim and mute, are included on the front panel.
Saffire MixControl, the ultra-low-latency 26 x 8 DSP mixer/router software provided with Saffire PRO 26, sets a new standard for audio interface control. It features flexible output routing and monitoring, as well as intuitive one-click setup solutions designed to help you track, monitor and mix as quickly as possible.

..... A. Yes. The reason to have an interface with multiple analog inputs is to record each track independently to the format of your choice. I use my PRO 40 & OctoPre together to record 16 independent channels!
Q. Is this still a good choice to invest $500 into in 2015?
..... A. In my opinion, the Focusrite Saffire PRO 40 is the BEST 8-channel audio interface available in the $500 range. This device can also be adapted to FW800 as well as the new Thunderbolt ports, so I do not see it fading out any time soon. If you are able to spend towards $1000, some more options open up, including awesome Focusrite products.
