MV Sewol (Korean: 세월호, Hanja: 世越號, Beyond the World) was a Korean vehicle-passenger ferry, built and previously operated in Japan. It was operated between Incheon to Jeju. On 16 April 2014 Sewol capsized and sank with the loss of 304 passengers and crew.
Sewol was a RoPax ferry that was built by the Japanese company Hayashikane Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd. (Japanese: 林兼船渠) in 1994. At 146 m (479 ft) in length and 22 m (72 ft) in width, she could carry 921 passengers, or a total of 956 persons, including the crew. She had a legal capacity for 180 vehicles and 154 regular cargo containers. The maximum speed of the ship was 22 knots (41 km/h; 25 mph).
The ferry was originally known as the Ferry Naminoue (Japanese: フェリーなみのうえ) between 1994 and 2012, and had been operated in Japan for almost 18 years without any accidents. In 2012, the ship was later bought for ₩11.6 billion (US$11.3 million) by Chonghaejin Marine Company, controlled by the family of businessman Yoo Byung-eun. The ship was renamed Sewol, and refurbished. Modifications included adding extra passenger cabins on the third, fourth, and fifth decks, raising the passenger capacity by 117, and increasing the weight of the ship by 239 tons. After regulatory and safety checks by the Korean Register of Shipping, the ship began her operation in South Korea on 15 March 2013. The ship made three round-trips every week from Incheon to Jeju. In February 2014 it was reported that Sewol again passed a vessel safety inspection by the South Korean Coast Guard following an intermediate survey to ensure the ship remained in a general condition which satisfied requirements set by the Korean Register of Shipping.

South Korea ( listen), officially the Republic of Korea (Hangul: 대한민국; hanja: 大韓民國; RR: Daehanminguk, listen) and commonly referred to as Korea, is a sovereign state in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The name Korea is derived from the ancient Kingdom of Goguryeo, also known as Koryŏ. Highly urbanized at 92%, Koreans lead a distinctive urban lifestyle with half of them living in the Seoul Capital Area, the world's second largest city with over 25 million residents and a leading global city with the fourth largest economy, rated in 2016 as the world's most livable megacity and safest city to live in. Highly mountainous, Korea is a popular winter sport destination in Asia, hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The earliest Korean pottery dates to 8000 BC, with three kingdoms flourishing at 1st century BC. One of them, Goguryeo, ruled Northeast China, parts of Russia and Mongolia under Gwanggaeto the Great. Since their unification into Silla and Balhae in the 7th century, Korea enjoyed over a millennium of relative tranquility under long lasting dynasties with innovations like Hangul, the unique alphabet created by Sejong the Great in 1446, enabling anyone to easily learn to read and write. Its rich and vibrant culture left 17 UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity, the third largest in the world, along with 12 World Heritage Sites. Korea was annexed by Imperial Japan in 1910 due to its strategic and central location, after whose surrender in 1945, it was divided into North and South Korea. A North Korean invasion lead to the Korean War (1950–53). Peace has since mostly continued with the two agreeing to work peacefully for reunification and the South solidifying peace as a regional power with the world's 10th largest defence budget and strong global alliances. In 2016, Korea was rated as the world's safest country to live in, with the lowest crime rate.

A marine salvage consultant with more than 40 years' experience, has speculated on the theories that the ferry which sank off South Korea could have been off course or taken a sudden turn. Captain John Noble said that had the ship been on its prescribed route, it should not have hit anything on the sea bed as the water should have been deep enough. "The idea that she did a sudden turn... Had the ship been properly stable when she sailed and the cargo properly secured, that shouldn't have happened. "If that is what happened, something was deeply wrong when she sailed." Capt Noble warned that oxygen in air pockets probably would not last very long, but the real issue was the temperature of the water.

France′s top appeals court has overturned a previous ruling that approved the extradition of the daughter of Yoo Byung-eun ,... the late owner of the Sewol-ho ferry that sank off Korea′s southwest coast last April. Officials say Yoo Som-na′s case will now be re-examined by a lower court. Yoo had filed an appeal against the extradition ruling in January... saying she wouldn′t get a fair trial in Korea. Korean authorities say Yoo embezzled 45 million U.S. dollars from subsidiaries owned by her family... including the ferry operator, the Chonghaejin Marine Company. Korean prosecutors believe the alleged embezzlement contributed to safety defects that led to the ferry sinking. If extradited and convicted, the 48-year-old could face up to 45 years behind bars.
Everyone says you're amazing
Say you don't know how to do it now, so you run
It's not that you're bleeding
But you're through with it now, so you run, so you run
I know that you need it, you can't live alone
So you run, so you run
Everyone says you're amazing now that you're clean
But only you know the real ones are 'cause you've seen
There's only one question I want to ask is it here and
When you hear everyone say you're amazing
Does anyone ask you?
Do you cry in your sleep and do you feel okay
When you run?
Thinking it's Doomsday you got to let it go
So you run, so you run
Pretend you don't see it, that we can live a lie
When you run, so you run
Everyone says you're amazing now that you're clean
Only you know the real ones are 'cause you've seen
There's only one question I want to ask is it here and
When, when you hear everyone say you're amazing
Does anyone ask you?
'Cause I know that you're real
Amazing, amazing, amazing
Everyone says you're amazing now that you're clean
Only you know the real ones are because you have seen
There's only one question I want to ask is it here and
When you hear, everyone says you're amazing
Everyone says you're amazing
(I want you to always feel you're amazing)
Everyone says you're amazing
(I want you to always feel you're amazing)
