Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪ɪlliː] Dilli), officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is the capital territory of India. Delhi is historically and culturally connected to both the Upper Doab of the Yamuna-Ganges river system and the Punjab region. It is bordered by Haryana on three sides and by Uttar Pradesh to the east. It is the largest city in India in terms of geographical area - about 1,484 square kilometres (573 sq mi). It has a population of about 16.3 million, making it the second most populous city and second most populous urban agglomeration in India and 3rd largest urban area in the world. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of about 25 million residents as of 2014.
Delhi has been continuously inhabited since the 6th century BC. Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.
Moolchand was a prolific character actor in Hindi and Panjabi cinema who was active from 1950 to his death in the late-1980s. He appeared in over 250 films. These films spanned the parallel cinema of Guru Dutt to the wrestler films of Dara Singh. He is known for his big stomach.
The first known appearance of Moolchand is in 1950. He was often featured in the films of the directors Guru Dutt and Raj Kapoor working on 6 of the former and 8 of the latter. Other actors he was often seen with were Dev Anand, B. R. Chopra, Dara Singh and I. S. Johar who featured him in most of their movies.
Most of Moolchand's early roles were small ones. He only began to get significant roles in the 1960s. Padosan (1968) where he plays the servant of Om Prakash's character featured a lot of close-ups of Moolchand and showed him to be an able comedic side actor. This comedic side would be further explored in the 1970s with a scene stealing appearance in Yaadon Ki Baarat with fellow fatman Ram Avtar as a tortured businessman and in Don as the village medicine man who dances with Amitabh and beckons Zeenat Aman to participate.
New Delhi (i/ˌnjuː ˈdɛli/) is a municipality and district in Delhi which serves as the capital and seat of government of India. In addition, it also serves as the seat of Government of Delhi.
The foundation stone of the city was laid by George V, Emperor of India during the Delhi Durbar of 1911. It was designed by British architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker. The new capital was inaugurated on 13 February 1931, by India's Viceroy Lord Irwin.
Although colloquially Delhi and New Delhi as names are used interchangeably to refer to the jurisdiction of NCT of Delhi, these are two distinct entities, and the latter is a small part of the former.
New Delhi has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.
Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the capital of India during the British Raj until December 1911. However, Delhi had served as the political and financial centre of several empires of ancient India and the Delhi Sultanate, most notably of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857. During the early 1900s, a proposal was made to the British administration to shift the capital of the British Indian Empire (as it was officially called) from Calcutta to Delhi. Unlike Calcutta, which was located on the eastern coast of India, Delhi was at the center of northern India and the Government of British India felt that it would be logistically easier to administer India from the latter rather than the former.

The Delhi Metro is a metro system serving Delhi and its satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad in National Capital Region in India. Delhi Metro is the world's 12th largest metro system in terms of both length and number of stations. A member of the Nova Group of Metros, the network consists of five colour-coded regular lines and the faster Airport Express line, with a total length of 213 kilometres (132 mi) serving 160 stations (including 6 on Airport Express line). The system has a mix of underground, at-grade, and elevated stations using both broad-gauge and standard-gauge. The metro has an average daily ridership of 2.4 million passengers, and, as of August 2010, had already carried over 1.25 billion passengers since its inception.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), a state-owned company with equal equity participation from Government of India and Government of Delhi, built and operates the Delhi Metro. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been certified by the United Nations as the first metro rail and rail-based system in the world to get "carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions" and helping in reducing pollution levels in the city by 630,000 tonnes every year. DMRC operates around 2000 trips daily between 05:30 till 00:00 running with a headway varying between 1–2 minutes and 4–10 minutes. The trains are usually of four, six and eight-coach. The power output is supplied by 25-kilovolt, 50-hertz alternating current through overhead catenary.
Lajpat Nagar is a residential and commercial neighbourhood of the South Delhi district of Delhi. It is named in honour of Lala Lajpat Rai, also known the Lion of Punjab, and is today most known for the Lajpat Nagar Central Market. There is also one more Lajpat Nagar in Ghaziabad in the NCR region.
The suburb is divided into four parts: Lajpat Nagar I, II, III (north of the Ring Road) and IV (south of the Ring Road). Housing colonies like Amar Colony, Dayanand Colony, Double Storey (also known as Nirmal Puri), National Park and Vikram Vihar are also located in it. Lajpat Nagar is famous for Central Market, which is a popular shopping destination, and is known for the garments, and textiles which are sold here.
The colony falls partially under the New Delhi (Lok Sabha constituency) and part of it is in the South Delhi (Lok Sabha constituency).
Lajpat Nagar was developed in 1950s and most of its early residents were Hindus and Sikhs moving east from newly formed Pakistan following the partition of India in 1947. As such, many of these individuals are Multanis and Sindhis. The colony was initially named as Cheap Colony or Cheap Cantonment. One part of Lajpat Nagar - 4 (Dayanand Colony) was named after Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, by Mr. B.N. Puri in 1957.

February 13, 2015 www.instagram.com/timandglo And so our 12-day adventure in India begins! We took an Air India red-eye flight direct from Shanghai to New Delhi. Our flight was a little delayed, so we only arrived in New Delhi at 3:00 am. We used the prepaid car service inside the arrivals terminal for transportation from the airport to our hotel. This was a mistake! We were charged 1,500 rupees only to find out that we could have used the prepaid taxi service just outside the terminal for 500 rupees. Something to remember for next time! :) We stayed at the New Delhi Railway branch of the Ginger Hotel chain. It's located just 200 meters from the Ajmeri Gate side of the train station, which is convenient for early departures or late arrivals. The hotel is affordable and clean, although t...

I'm in Delhi, India's capital region, and today I'll try to eat as much street food as I possibly can to complete the never-before-attempted DELHI BELLY CHALLENGE... Is it possible to eat 1,000 rupees worth of INDIAN STREET FOOD in a single day?! The food is delicious on the streets, but it's so rich, and often fried. Plus, each dish costs an average of about 30-50 rupees, so it's incredibly difficult to spent that much money in a single day eating exclusively street food, assuming your stomach holds up. Traveling India: Delhi. This video is of our first hours and days in India. Be prepared to see two culture-shocked westerners. No amount of travel guidebooks can prepare you for India. India has a unique allure, I have forever wanted to travel here. In 2008, I set my mind firmly on the goal of getting here, when we purchased 10 year multiple entry visas. We are excited to finally be here experiencing it first hand, culture-shock and all. I will do my best to film everything as we experience it, both the good and the bad. As every country has it's beauty and it's struggle. xoxo, Christine
When you think India, if you think spicy food, snake charmers, dodging cows, the Taj Mahal, and total chaos- you’re thinking about Northern India. It's an adventure waiting to happen, and will leave you wondering why it only accounts for 1% of world tourism. Join Ricky Moreno as he explores Delhi, Rajasthan, Agra, Rishikesh, and Varanasi. Welcome to Delhi. Say goodbye to your personal space. It’s crowded, it’s overwhelming, and definitely exhausting. One day here can feel like an entire week. The only way you’ll have any fun is to just put down the Purell and join the party. Instead of going straight to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, first I head west to hang with some locals in Rajasthan. Here, the people are welcoming, the desert is sprawling, and the camels command the streets. And it...
