Join Cenk Uygur of
The Young Turks on
April 11th. in
Washington DC. The largest civil disobedience action of this century begins.
An equal voice, an equal vote, an equal chance to pursue happiness.
All Americans, no matter where we are from or who we were born to, deserve these basic rights. This is the promise of democracy. But after generations of struggle, a government of, by, and for the
People is still a dream deferred. Billionaires buy our candidates. Corporations dominate our politics.
The right to vote is stripped and suppressed. Our democracy is corrupted. And the change that our families and communities desperately need is blocked. This April, we say enough. This April, we say no more. This April,
We the People will take a stand and demand an equal voice for all. If
Congress won’t act to save our democracy, we will.
It’s time to take back the
People’s House. Spring is coming. Join us.
Democracy Spring
The Democracy Spring
Campaign is a nonpartisan coalition of over
100 organizations and thousands
of individuals and public figures coming together to save our democracy by shining a national spotlight on the urgent crisis of political corruption and inequality, the existence of solutions to it, and the strength of the popular demand to enact them.
Democracy Spring is demanding that Congress take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in politics and ensure free and fair elections that give all
Americans an equal voice.
There are 4 bills that Congress can pass right now to solve this problem. (see below) And now there is a 5th step they can take by confirm a nominee to the
Supreme Court that will uphold voting rights and end the corruption of big money in our politics.
The campaign will start April 2, when a pioneering group of marchers from around the country will gather at the
Liberty Bell in
Philadelphia to issue a simple demand to Congress: take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in politics and ensure our elections are free, fair, and afford every
American an equal voice
.
In the spirit of
Granny D,
Cesar Chavez, the
Selma marchers and others who have fought for equality, the marchers will then set out on a 10 day, 140-mile march from Philadelphia to the nation’s
Capital.
If Congress fails to act by April 11 when marchers arrive in DC, we will be joined by thousands of Americans from across the country in a historic, nonviolent sit-in that will continue until Congress acts or until this becomes the largest civil disobedience action of the century.
More than 2,
500 individuals and counting from around the country, including
Larry Lessig,
Mark Ruffalo,
Zephyr Teachout,
Terry O’Neill and dozens of other civil society leaders, activists and everyday people just like you and me have pledged to risk arrest in massive, peaceful sit-ins at the
US Capitol starting on April 11th.
Representatives of Democracy Spring will engage in peaceful civil disobedience for at least one week after the march arrives in
DC. Day after day, Congress will have a choice: to put hundreds of disciplined, dignified democracy defenders in handcuffs, or simply do its job and fix our broken system.
A drama so unprecedented in the nation’s
Capitol will rock the business-as-usual cycle of this election and catapult this critical issue onto center stage in the middle of a very closely contested
Presidential Primary fight.
