Cherry

A cherry is the fruit of many plants of the genus Prunus, and is a fleshy drupe (stone fruit).

The cherry fruits of commerce usually are obtained from a limited number of species such as cultivars of the sweet cherry, Prunus avium. The name 'cherry' also refers to the cherry tree, and is sometimes applied to almonds and visually similar flowering trees in the genus Prunus, as in "ornamental cherry", "cherry blossom", etc. Wild Cherry may refer to any of the cherry species growing outside of cultivation, although Prunus avium is often referred to specifically by the name "wild cherry" in the British Isles.

Botany

Many cherries are members of the subgenus Cerasus, which is distinguished by having the flowers in small corymbs of several together (not singly, nor in racemes), and by having smooth fruit with only a weak groove along one side, or no groove. The subgenus is native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, with two species in America, three in Europe, and the remainder in Asia. Other cherry fruits are members of subgenus Padus. Cherry trees with low exposure to light tend to have a bigger leaf size so they can intercept all light possible. Cherry trees with high exposure to light tend to have thicker leaves to concentrate light and have a higher photosynthetic capacity.

Cherry is a 2010 American comedy film directed by Jeffrey Fine.

The plot involves Aaron, a college student majoring in engineering who becomes involved with Linda, an older classmate with a teenage daughter named Beth. Problems ensue when Beth develops feelings for him as well.

Cherry (comics)

Cherry (originally Cherry Poptart) is an adult comic book with a protagonist of the same name, written and drawn by Larry Welz.

History

First published in 1982 the comic series was originally called Cherry Poptart, but the title was changed to Cherry beginning with Issue #3 following litigation or threats of litigation by Kellogg's over its Pop-Tarts trademark, as confirmed by Welz himself. It has also been suggested that Welz decided that the "Cherry" name alone was better as a brand and looked better as a logo. Inside the comic Cherry's name was changed to Cherry Popstar, and that name was used in a number of stories, but she was most frequently referred to by just her first name.

The original series has also spawned a spinoff title in 1992 - Cherry's Jubilee - which ran four issues, and featured stories from other writers and artists alongside work by Welz. In addition, individual issues are collected in a series of Cherry Collections. Welz has also produced an issue of Cherry Deluxe featuring a story by Neil Gaiman.

Spirit (Leona Lewis album)

Spirit is the debut studio album by British singer-songwriter Leona Lewis, released by Syco Music in November 2007 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, followed by a worldwide release during early 2008. After winning the third series of reality singing contest The X Factor in December 2006, Lewis began recording the album in Sweden, the United Kingdom and United States, working with a variety of writers and producers. Critics praised the album for creating a contemporary album using such a variety of producers, and for showcasing Lewis's voice, though criticised her "lack of personality". The release of the album marked Lewis as the first winner of a major television talent show in both the UK and US to be given a major global launch with a debut album.

The album debuted at number one in nine countries, including the United Kingdom, United States and Germany, and peaked in the top five in a further eight countries. It held the record for the biggest digital album sales in a week ever for a new artist. The album was the sixth biggest selling of 2008 in the world, as according to the IFPI. It has gone on to sell over 8 million copies worldwide, and was the fourth best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK, where it has since sold over 3.12 million copies and remains the best-selling debut album by a female artist.

Yesterday (Ashley Roberts song)

"Yesterday" is a song by American pop singer–songwriter Ashley Roberts. The track is her first solo single since her departure from The Pussycat Dolls in 2010. The song was released digitally on November 11, 2012.

Background and composition

In 2003, Roberts joined The Pussycat Dolls, a burlesque troupe re-casted as recording artists. Seven years later, on 2010, she decided to leave the group to pursue her own solo career.

After 2 years of hiatus, on November 7, 2012, it was announced that Roberts would compete in the twelfth series of the British reality television show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, airing on ITV. The same day the competition started Yesterday was released in the UK.

'Yesterday' was released through Cherry Red Records and distributed by Fastrax.

Music and lyrics

'Yesterday' is described as a pop ballad with a length of three minutes and 4 seconds. It was produced by Bulldozer and written by Roberts and Bulldozer.

In an interview with muzu.tv Ashley talks about the meaning of the song as "you're in a relationship or maybe a career... and you just kinda feeling that you're stuck and you want to move for but you can't... so it's being stuck yesterday and wanting to move forward."
