Peter Barakan is a Japanese-British DJ and broadcaster, the host of "Barakan Beat" on InterFM. He also hosts the series Begin Japanology and Japanology Plus on NHK World, which introduces various aspects of Japanese culture.
Peter Barakan was born and raised in London by a Jewish father of Polish ancestry and an Anglo-Burmese mother. After attending SOAS, University of London, Barakan entered the music industry as a clerk, and in 1974 moved to Japan to continue his career. He wrote lyrics and handled international marketing for the Japanese band Yellow Magic Orchestra. His younger brother is musician Shane Fontayne.
He hosted the TBS program CBS Document beginning in October 1988, a Japanese edition of 60 Minutes. He hosted the 3-hour Barakan Morning on InterFM radio as late as 2011. During the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, Barakan was prevented from playing a nuclear protest song, because it could "'create fuhyo higai, which means 'damage from rumors.'" In 2012, Barakan led a U.N. sponsored multi-city mayoral panel discussion on community rebuilding following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
Begin Japanology is a Japanese television program aired on NHK World TV, and presented by Peter Barakan. It was first broadcast on the 5th of October 2007 in Japan and beginning in other countries on the 14th of March 2008. There are 7 seasons, totalling 285 episodes. The program explores aspects of traditional and contemporary Japan and interviews experts in various fields. Its companion series is Japanology Plus.

Baraghan (Persian: برغان, also Romanized as Baraghān and Barakān) is a village in Baraghan Rural District, Chendar District, Savojbolagh County, Alborz Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 378, in 139 families.
Tyson Smith (born October 16, 1983) is a Canadian professional wrestler, best known by his ring name Kenny Omega. He is signed to New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he is in his first reign as the IWGP Intercontinental Champion, while also being a former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and a one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion. He also appears for U.S. national promotion Ring of Honor (ROH).
He is also known for his work on the Japanese independent circuit, appearing in promotions like Dramatic Dream Team (DDT), where he is a former one-time KO-D Openweight Champion, three-time KO-D Tag Team Champion, two-time KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Champion and one-time DDT Extreme Division Champion. He has also worked for All Japan Pro Wrestling, where he is a former World Junior Heavyweight Champion.
He has wrestled in several North American independent promotions, including California-based Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, where he is a former PWG World Champion and winner of the 2009 Battle of Los Angeles tournament, Jersey All Pro Wrestling, and Canada-based Premier Championship Wrestling.

Peter Barakan interviews Muho Noelke, the German abbot of Antaiji. Antaiji is a Zen monastery that is located deep in the mountains, close to the Japanese sea. The monastery commits itself to the practice of seated meditation and the study of the Buddha's teaching in the tradition of Dogen Zenji and Sawaki Kodo Roshi. Tthe community also cultivates the fields around the monastery, cuts grass and trees and does construction work to keep self-sufficient. In the interview, Abbot Muho explains about zazen, community life and the relation between teacher and student. Another contraversial topic is the precept of not-killing and eating meat.

Sumo is often called Japan’s national sport. Wrestlers, naked except for a special loincloth, face off, smash into each other, and battle for victory. Sumo is both a martial art and a highly stylized slice of traditional Japanese culture, with its own codes of appearance and conduct. Sumo originated centuries ago as a test of strength. It evolved over time into a harvest divination ritual. And in the 18th century, it developed into a popular form of mass entertainment. Sumo is more than just the “grand sumo” contested by professional wrestlers. Youth sumo toughens young minds and bodies, and there is women’s sumo too.
