Renfrew (/ˈrɛnfruː/; Scottish Gaelic: Rinn Friù) is a town 6 miles (10 km) west of Glasgow, and the historical county town of Renfrewshire. Called the "Cradle of the Royal Stewarts" for its early link with Scotland's former royal house, Renfrew gained royal burgh status in 1397. The town is also a barony: the current Baron of Renfrew is Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay (aka the Prince of Wales) who holds lands in the area.
As the county town, Renfrew once was a centre of local government for the surrounding area. Whilst the county remained known as "Renfrewshire", the focus of local government gradually shifted from Renfrew to its larger neighbour Paisley. Following the reorganisation of 1996, Renfrewshire was divided for local government purposes into three modern council areas: Renfrewshire, with considerably smaller boundaries than the old county, including Renfrew and with its administrative centre at Paisley; Inverclyde with its centre at Greenock, covering the western part of the county; and East Renfrewshire, with its centre at Giffnock. The boundaries of the historic County of Renfrew remain for a number of ceremonial and administrative purposes.

Kitty Jekyll has given up trying to find any passion in her distant, preoccupied husband and is involved in an affair with one of Jekyll's old 'friends,' Paul Allen, a weak slacker and wastrel who relies on Jekyll to pay his numerous gambling debts. After experimenting on himself, the bearded, tweedy Jekyll transforms himself into the young, dynamic, and self-confidant Edward Hyde. In his new character he befriends Allen, who has no idea that this clean-cut, handsome playboy prone to outbursts of violence is really Jekyll. As Hyde, he encourages Allen to introduce him to the dark underbelly of London's night life including opium dens and sex clubs, where he begins an affair with the sensual courtesan Maria, an exotic dancer and snake charmer. When he tries to seduce Allen's mistress, in reality his own wife, he is frustrated to find she prefers her decadent lover to him.

Professor Colin Renfrew, Senior Research Fellow, McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at Cambridge University, discusses recent excavations on the Cycladic island of Keros. These excavations have revealed the site of Dhaskalio Kavos as a place of numerous ritual offerings, dating to the Early Bronze Age (ca. 2500 BC). The quality and quantity of painted pottery, stone vessels, and marble sculptures, which were deliberately broken in the course of religious practice before systematically deposited here, provides fresh insight into Early Cycladic life and ritual. Sponsored by the Institute for Aegean Prehistory—INSTAP.
Renfrew films are about as realistic a look at the RCMP as Starsky and Hutch was to police work... but they're a lot of fun. In this one Renfrew (James Newell) goes after the culprits of an armored car heist but learns not all things are what they seem. This film fell into the public domain in 1968 from lack of copyright renewal.

Renfrew of the Royal Mounted, made in 1937, is an American western film with songs produced and directed by Al Herman, starring James Newill as the famous Canadian "Mountie" (mounted policeman), with Carol Hughes. It was originally released in the United States by Grand National Pictures. The plot concerns counterfeit bills are being printed in Canada and shipped across the border hidden in blocks of ice. James Newill had a fine singing voice - he was a radio vocalist and had studied opera; the reason why he was chosen to star in the film series of "Renfrew" films. The film was adapted from a popular series of boy's adventure books written by Laurie York Erskine.
