The Pannonian Avars /ˈævɑrz/ were a group of medieval equestrian warrior nomads of uncertain origins, who established the Avar Khaganate, which spanned the Carpathians and considerable areas of Central and Eastern Europe from the late 6th to the early 9th century. They were ruled by a Khagan, who led a tight-knit entourage of professional warriors. Although the name Avar first appeared in the mid-5th century AD, these Avars entered the historical scene in the mid-6th century AD, having formed as a mixed band of warriors in the Pontic-Caspian steppe wishing to escape Göktürk rule.
Their linguistic affiliation is uncertain and may be tentatively deduced from a variety of sources, betraying a variety of languages spoken by ruling and subject clans. Proposals by scholars include Oghur Turkic, Tungusic, Caucasian, Mongolic and Iranian. Over time, Slavic became the lingua franca of the Avar Khaganate.
The earliest clear reference to the Avar ethnonym comes from Priscus the Rhetor (died after 472 AD). Priscus recounts that, c. 463, the Saraghurs, Onoghurs and Ughors were attacked by the Sabirs, who had been attacked by the Avars. In turn, the Avars had been driven off by people fleeing "man-eating griffins" coming from "the ocean" (Priscus Fr 40). Whilst Priscus' accounts provide some information about the ethno-political situation in the Don-Kuban-Volga region after the demise of the Huns, no unequivocal conclusions can be reached. In fact, Denis Sinor has argued that whoever the "Avars" referred to by Priscus were, they were different from the Avars who appear a century later, during the time of Justinian (who reigned (527-565).
The next author of late antiquity to discuss the Avars, Menander Protector in the 6th century, details Gokturk embassies in Constantinople in 565 and 568 AD. Each time, the Turks appear angered at the Byzantines for having made an alliance with the Avars, whom the Turks saw as their subjects and slaves. Turxanthos, a Turk prince, calls the Avars "Varchonites" and "escaped slaves of the Turks", who numbered "about 20 thousand" (Menander Fr 43).
Much greater, but somewhat confusing, details are provided by Theophylact Simocatta, who wrote c. 629, but detailed the final two decades of the 6th century. In particular, he (claims to) quote a triumph letter from Turk Khan Tardan:
For this very Chagan had in fact outfought the leader of the nation of the Abdeli (I mean indeed, of the Hephthalites, as they are called), conquered him, and assumed the rule of the nation.
Then he .. enslaved the Avar nation.
But let no one think that we are distorting the history of these times because he supposes that the Avars are those barbarians neighbouring on Europe and Pannonia, and that their arrival was prior to the times of the emperor Maurice. For it is by a misnomer that the barbarians on the Ister have assumed the appellation of Avars; the origin of their race will shortly be revealed.
So, when the Avars had been defeated (for we are returning to the account) some of them made their escape to those who inhabit Taugast. Taugast is a famous city, which is a total of one thousand five hundred miles distant from those who are called Turks,.. Others of the Avars, who declined to humbler fortune because of their defeat, came to those who are called Mucri; this nation is the closest neighbour to the men of Taugast;

Chuvashes (along with Ukrainians and Ossetians) abosorbed also many Scytho-Sarmatians (their culture is full of Scythian elements, i.e. like the wooden vessel at 00:23 - similiar to Ossetian (Caucasian Alan) ones or Chuvash woman warrior culture (5:55) as among Iranic Sarmatians (described by Greeks so). That is why Chuvash embroidery (2:22, 7:37) is nearly same as Ukrainian one (common Scythian / Bulgaric heritage), just as -yuk Chuvash petitive name endings (as in Ukrainian), i.e. Chuvash "Sashuk" (Alex) / Ukrainian "Pavlyuk" or "Oleksiuk" (from Paul / Alex). In Ukrainian, these petititive Bulgaro-Oghur name ending forms are used as last names! Half of Ukrainians have -uk last names! Maybe this common Chuvash-Ukrainian Scythian heritage? If not, then Oghur-Turkic for sure (as other Slavs dont have these name forms). Chuvash wooden carpanetry patterns (7:14) seem to be Sarmato-Scythian (Assic) too, as in Scandinavia & Iceland (Old Norse) by the way too. Ancinet Norse carvings look same. After all Odin came from Asland (Scythia / Don-Taman Alania) sagas say...The Chuvash call God - Tura. Norsemen borrowed this term from ancient Bulgars on Don in the form of Thor. Traditional Chuvash ponytail haircut (0:19, 0:32, 2:16) is same as Ukrainian cossacks / peasants (common Scythian / Oghur-Turkic heritage). Manchus, once the ruling people of China have same haircuts too, also Oghuz Turks, Circassians, Abkhaz...

PS!! Note also that Chuvashes have also Finno-Ugrian (Permian to be more specific) element too, perhaps the primordial (about 30 % of Finnic genes). Even the very name of Cheboksary in Chuvash - Shupashkar has Finnic base in it - "kar" (Finnic for city, as in Kudymkar, Komi-Permian (Finnic-Permic) capital. Its a mixture culture. Nevertheless. the Suvars (Bulgaric tribe) are the main group that formed the Chuvash ethnicity and language (nearly pure Bulgaric / Oghur). And the last, Chuvashes, like Ukrainians are Orthodox CHRISTIANS!
By the way the grave of greatest Bulgar ruler KUBRAT (2:16) of Dulo caln (of ex great Bulgaria in Ukraine) was by accident found (by shepherds in 1908 or so) in central Ukraine (in Pereshchepyna, south Poltava region, Ukraine) just some 200 km south east of Kyiv. Kubrat and his Bulgarian royal Dulo clan (Duloba) were of Iranic Sarmato-Scythian (Alan) stock, like the ruling clans (KangarAs(-ses), from them Kagarlyk city in Ukraine) among Pechenegs (Patzinaks) too.

The Eurasian Avars or Ancient Avars (
/ˈævɑrz/) were a Turkic people from the steppes of Central Asia, and later they became a confederation of Eurasian tribes of mixed origin. They were ruled by a khagan, who was surrounded by a tight-knit entourage of nomad warriors. Although the name Avar first appeared in the mid-fifth century, the Avars of Europe enter the historical scene in the mid-sixth century AD, when they established a pax spanning considerable areas of Central and Eastern Europe. Their state was the Avar Khaganate. The rule of their country over much of the Pannonian Plain persisted until the early 9th century.
The origin of the Eurasian Avars is unclear. Information about origins is derived primarily from the works of Byzantine historians Menander Protector and Theophylact Simocatta. John of Ephesus used the term "those, who are called "Avars," because of their long hair." The confusion is compounded by the fact that many clans carried a particular name because they believed it to be prestigious, or it was attributed to them by outsiders describing their common characteristics, believed place of origin or reputation.[citation needed] Such a case has been seen repeatedly for many nomadic confederacies.

The Pannonian Avars /ˈævɑrz/ were a group of medieval equestrian warrior nomads of uncertain origins, who established the Avar Khaganate, which spanned the Carp...
The Pannonian Avars /ˈævɑrz/ were a group of medieval equestrian warrior nomads of uncertain origins, who established the Avar Khaganate, which spanned the Carpathians and considerable areas of Central and Eastern Europe from the late 6th to the early 9th century. They were ruled by a Khagan, who led a tight-knit entourage of professional warriors. Although the name Avar first appeared in the mid-5th century AD, these Avars entered the historical scene in the mid-6th century AD, having formed as a mixed band of warriors in the Pontic-Caspian steppe wishing to escape Göktürk rule.
Their linguistic affiliation is uncertain and may be tentatively deduced from a variety of sources, betraying a variety of languages spoken by ruling and subject clans. Proposals by scholars include Oghur Turkic, Tungusic, Caucasian, Mongolic and Iranian. Over time, Slavic became the lingua franca of the Avar Khaganate.
The earliest clear reference to the Avar ethnonym comes from Priscus the Rhetor (died after 472 AD). Priscus recounts that, c. 463, the Saraghurs, Onoghurs and Ughors were attacked by the Sabirs, who had been attacked by the Avars. In turn, the Avars had been driven off by people fleeing "man-eating griffins" coming from "the ocean" (Priscus Fr 40). Whilst Priscus' accounts provide some information about the ethno-political situation in the Don-Kuban-Volga region after the demise of the Huns, no unequivocal conclusions can be reached. In fact, Denis Sinor has argued that whoever the "Avars" referred to by Priscus were, they were different from the Avars who appear a century later, during the time of Justinian (who reigned (527-565).
The next author of late antiquity to discuss the Avars, Menander Protector in the 6th century, details Gokturk embassies in Constantinople in 565 and 568 AD. Each time, the Turks appear angered at the Byzantines for having made an alliance with the Avars, whom the Turks saw as their subjects and slaves. Turxanthos, a Turk prince, calls the Avars "Varchonites" and "escaped slaves of the Turks", who numbered "about 20 thousand" (Menander Fr 43).
Much greater, but somewhat confusing, details are provided by Theophylact Simocatta, who wrote c. 629, but detailed the final two decades of the 6th century. In particular, he (claims to) quote a triumph letter from Turk Khan Tardan:
For this very Chagan had in fact outfought the leader of the nation of the Abdeli (I mean indeed, of the Hephthalites, as they are called), conquered him, and assumed the rule of the nation.
Then he .. enslaved the Avar nation.
But let no one think that we are distorting the history of these times because he supposes that the Avars are those barbarians neighbouring on Europe and Pannonia, and that their arrival was prior to the times of the emperor Maurice. For it is by a misnomer that the barbarians on the Ister have assumed the appellation of Avars; the origin of their race will shortly be revealed.
So, when the Avars had been defeated (for we are returning to the account) some of them made their escape to those who inhabit Taugast. Taugast is a famous city, which is a total of one thousand five hundred miles distant from those who are called Turks,.. Others of the Avars, who declined to humbler fortune because of their defeat, came to those who are called Mucri; this nation is the closest neighbour to the men of Taugast;

Beginning of the Bronze Age: Height of the Sumerian civilization; development of numerous cultural and technological inventions (writing, the wheel). First Sumerian Empire extends from the Eastern Mediterranean to Western Iran, including all of Mesopotamia.
3000 BC - 2000 BC
Sumerian colonies are established from the Atlantic Ocean through the Mediterranean and Danubian basins to India and Central Asia (Turan), and from the Caucasus to Northeast Africa. The vast belt of Eurasian grasslands stretching from the Carpathian mountains to the Altay range, bordered in the North by the Eurasian forest belt and in the the South by the Caucasus and the Iranian plateau, is gradually settled by Sumerians and Sumerian-related peoples from Mesopotamia, Transcaucasia and Iran. These Near Eastern settlers of the Eurasian grasslands became the peoples which were later referred to as the Scythians, Huns, Avars and Magyars among others, and collectively known as the Turanians. The Turanians were therefore the descendents of the Sumerian-Mesopotamian peoples, and the inheritors of this ancient Near Eastern culture. Utigur or Bulgar Vund (vh'ndur, Vanand) is the name used by historians and geographers like Moses Horenaci, Procopius Caesariensis and his continuators, Agathias of Mirena, Menander Protector, and Theophylact Simocatta in the 6th century to refer to those Bulgars of the Eurasian steppes north-east of the Black Sea and east the Don river in Patria Onoguria who had come under the control of the Western Turkic Kaghanate to be also known as Unogundur. Yury Zuev identifies the Utigurs mentioned by Menander and Pliny as one of the tribes of the Yuezhi.
The Bulgar ancestors of the Utigurs represented the Pontic-Kuban part of the Hun Empire, and were ruled by descendants of Attila through his son, Ernakh.
By 567CE some northern Kutrigur groups came under the control of the Pannonian Avars in their push towards Pannonia, while the south-easternmost Bulgar groups became known as Utigurs when the Western Turkic Kaghanate (who were violently opposed to the Pannonian Avars) conquered them and installed Sandilch as their leader. He ruled under the dominion of the Western Turkic Kaghanate as Sulifa (from Pyn. Xielifa 苏李发) to designate the Turkic title Elteber (Baltavar). Under Sandilch, the Utigurs allied with the Byzantine Empire against their Avar-controlled Bulgar relatives - the Kutrigurs.
In the early 7th century, the Utigur Khan Kubrat "ruler of the Unogundurs", being from the Dulo clan, defeated the Avars in alliance with Byzantium and reunited the Utigurs and Kutrigurs into a single Crimean Bulgar confederation in Patria Onoguria renamed as "Old Great Bulgaria". After Kubrat's death, his empire was divided when his appointed heir Batbayan submitted to the Khazars. At this, some Kutrigurs, led by Kubrat’s second son Kotrag, migrated to the confluence of the Volga and Kama rivers and founded a Khanate known as Volga Bulgaria. The other sons however carried the Utigur name to the Balkans and Pannonian Sirmium (modern Syrmia) by April 677. The majority submitted to a restored Avar Kaghan, though some rebelled moving west into Italy and south to the Pelagonian plain under the leadership of Kuber. Thereafter Kuber's Utigur Bulgars displaced some of the populations that had already settled in the region of Macedonia, and intermingled with the populations that remained. Meanwhile, the Utigur Khan Asparukh had led a portion of the Bulgars into Moesia, to establish the state which would become modern Bulgaria. In the 8th century, the Kuber Bulgars merged with Asparuh's Bulgars who had by the late 7th century already taken both sides of the Danube River.
