Misty (film)

Misty is a 1961 children's film based on Marguerite Henry's 1947 award-winning children's book Misty of Chincoteague. It recounts the true story of the special bond that develops between two young children and a centuries-old herd of wild ponies living on a coastal island off the coast of Virginia and a real-life Chincoteague Pony named Misty.

The storyline & the 1961 filming

Set on the island of Chincoteague on the Delmarva Peninsula in Virginia, Misty was filmed entirely on-location in Chicoteague, and on the nearby barrier island known as Assateague. The story is based on the annual "Pony Swim", an event held in the Chincoteague area each year, that involves rounding up some of the wild ponies who live on Assateague Island to swim across the channel. Some of the colts and yearlings are then sold at auction as a means of thinning out the herd, and as a benefit for the local Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department.

The story features two real life characters of Chincoteague, Paul and Maureen Beebe, a young brother and sister who befriend an elusive mare on Assateague named the Phantom, and later come to own her foal, Misty. Using local people from the town in most of the roles, the film stars only six professional actors, including Arthur O'Connell, Anne Seymour, Pam Smith, and future Hollywood executive David Ladd. The horse Misty was played in the film by another pony, although the real Misty can be seen in some scenes.

Azaghal (band)

Azaghal is an orthodox black metal band from Finland, currently signed to Moribund Records. They were established in 1995.

History

Azaghal was formed in 1995 by guitarist Narqath and drummer Kalma (later known as Vrtx and V-Khaoz). Varjoherra joined the horde as a vocalist in 1997. First demo was recorded shortly after that in late 1997. 2 more demos ("Noituuden Torni" and "Kristinusko Liekeissä" were recorded in 1998, as well as the debut 7" EP "Harmagedon" which was released by Aftermath Music.

The debut full-length "Mustamaa" was released in summer 1999 by Melancholy Productions (later known as ISO666). The album was originally released only on limited vinyl (300 copies), but was later re-released also on CD by ISO666. Only few months later the second full-length was recorded, titled "Helvetin Yhdeksän Piiriä". The first 2 albums featured mostly re-recorded demo material, thus the quick space between the recordings and releases. "Helvetin Yhdeksän Piiriä" came out on Brazilian Evil Horde Records in December 1999. The year 2000 saw the releases of couple of split CD's, "Helwettiläinen" 7" and a collection of rare & demo tracks "Deathkult MMDCLXVI". Azaghal tracks from the two split CD's (with Mustan Kuun Lapset and Beheaded Lamb) were also released on 12" vinyl called "Ihmisviha" by Blut & Eisen. In early 2001 JL Nokturnal (who had appeared on most of the earlier releases as a session member) joined Azaghal as a lead guitarist / bassist and we recorded our third full-length album "Of Beasts and Vultures" in March 2001. After some delays "Of Beasts and Vultures" was finally released over a year later in spring 2002. After this album founding member and drummer V-Khaoz was kicked out of the band because he did not share the same passion towards Black Metal and Azaghal.

Ordinal number

In set theory, an ordinal number, or ordinal, is one generalization of the concept of a natural number that is used to describe a way to arrange a collection of objects in order, one after another. Any finite collection of objects can be put in order just by labelling the objects with distinct whole numbers. Ordinal numbers are thus the "labels" needed to arrange infinite collections of objects in order. Ordinals are distinct from cardinal numbers, which are useful for saying how many objects are in a collection. Although the distinction between ordinals and cardinals is not always apparent in finite sets (one can go from one to the other just by counting labels), different infinite ordinals can describe the same cardinal (see Hilbert's grand hotel).

Ordinals were introduced by Georg Cantor in 1883 to accommodate infinite sequences and to classify derived sets, which he had previously introduced in 1872 while studying the uniqueness of trigonometric series.

Like other kinds of numbers, ordinals can be added, multiplied, and exponentiated. The finite ordinals (and the finite cardinals) are the natural numbers: 0, 1, 2, …, since any two total orderings of a finite set are order isomorphic. The least infinite ordinal is ω, which is identified with the cardinal number . However, in the transfinite case, beyond ω, ordinals draw a finer distinction than cardinals on account of their order information. Freedom City

Freedom City is a fictional, city-based campaign setting for the roleplaying game Mutants & Masterminds. It was designed by Steve Kenson.

Publication history

While working on Silver Age Sentinels, Steve Kenson pitched Freedom City as a setting for the game, but the game's publishers, Guardians of Order, turned it down.Chris Pramas of Green Ronin Publishing asked Kenson to design a new d20-based superhero RPG. Kenson developed Mutants & Masterminds in 2002. In 2003, his Freedom City setting was published. Green Ronin published a trio of books – Golden Age (2006), Iron Age (2007) and Silver Age (2010) – which developed Freedom City by examining it through three different comic book eras. In 2008, a new series of Freedom City Atlases expanded the original Freedom City setting. A new third edition of Mutants & Masterminds Hero's Handbook (2011) brought a new setting to the game universe, Emerald City, which first appeared in a series of PDF Threat Reports (2011), with a complete setting book planned for GenCon 44.

Sapphire (John Martyn album)

Sapphire is a rock album by John Martyn, who by this stage in his career had almost entirely abandoned the acoustic guitar and folk approach in favour of a glossy pop/rock sound.

Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas and CaVa Sound Workshops, Glasgow, Scotland, the album was originally released on LP by Island, catalogue number ILPS 9779, with cover photography by Anton Corbijn and a cover illustration by Cathie Felstead.

Robert Palmer assisted in the later stages of the recording.

Sapphire (satellite)

Sapphire is a Canadian space surveillance satellite which was launched in 2013. Sapphire was constructed by MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) based on an SSTL-150 bus produced by Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL) and an optical payload produced by COM DEV International.

SAPPHIRE, Canada's first military satellite, is a small spacecraft designed to monitor space debris and satellites within an orbit 3,728 to 24,855 miles (6,000 to 40,000 kilometres) above Earth. The satellite has been providing data to the United States Space Surveillance Network since January 2014. The satellite has a mass of 148 kilograms (326 lb), and carries a Three Mirror Anastigmat to track artificial objects in medium Earth orbit to geosynchronous Earth orbit.ISRO's Ball Lock separation system IBL-298 was used for separating the satellite.

The optical system is based on the design of the Space-Based Visible (SBV) sensor. This telescope was developed for the Midcourse Space Experiment. The CCD used is a CCD47-20bi CCD sensor.
